Chapter 302 She Is Willing to Wait
"How many projects has White Corporation stolen from us?" a shareholder said angrily. "They are our arch-enemy, and you think they will let us participate in this project?"
With these words, the entire conference room fell into a deathly silence.
Ivy said, "I think our relationship with White Corporation isn't beyond repair. The reason White Corporation is competing with Synergy Global Corporation for projects is simply because Eudora has just taken control of Synergy Global Corporation, and some things are unstable, so they are taking advantage. I heard White Corporation is about to parachute in a new general manager. Based on my analysis of Benjamin, he doesn't have many capable people at his disposal. That new general manager must be someone he trusts, but not necessarily very competent. Given Synergy Global Corporation's former glory, that new general manager wouldn't dare to offend us."
It was a display of power meant to intimidate; the other party was just a newly promoted nobody, not worth mentioning.
Her explanation moved the shareholders slightly, and they began to discuss in detail how to divide Runyon Corporation's project with White Corporation.
Tristan, sitting at the head of the table, listened indifferently, with a slight smirk on his lips, as if watching a show.
"Then it's settled. Three days from now, when White Corporation's general manager takes office, we will immediately go to discuss this project," Travis finally decided.
As soon as the meeting ended, Tristan was the first to stand up and left.
Ryan quickly followed, reporting in a low voice, "Miss Grey has returned. Benjamin personally picked her up from the airport and arranged a villa for her to stay in. Matilda and Aaron have already moved in."
"Got it," Tristan paused by the window.
As he looked at the vast city outside, his long-empty heart felt a bit filled.
It was midsummer, and the nights in Velvet City were still a bit stuffy.
Katniss had just returned and was struggling with jet lag, so she decided to study Runyon Corporation's project.
Benjamin had made initial contact, and now White Corporation was in the spotlight, and Runyon Corporation had already indicated a preference to cooperate with White Corporation.
But she remained cautious.
Matilda and Aaron were also awake, downstairs trying to soothe Evie.
Hearing bursts of exclamations, she had to get up and close the study door that was left slightly ajar.
As she returned, she couldn't help but smile.
Evie was only a two-month-old baby, unable to understand or speak. It was unclear whether they were entertaining Evie or Evie was entertaining them.
In three days, she would start her position at White Corporation, and Sophia would help take care of Evie at home.
Natalia had also bought a villa next door and would come over during the day to help with Evie.
Emory still had some work abroad and would return after finishing it.
Katniss's life returned to normal, and in the blink of an eye, it was the day she started at White Corporation.
Her golden shoulder-length hair was tucked behind her ears, her makeup was light, but her lipstick was a deep shade.
It perfectly matched her current aura of authority and control as White Corporation's general manager.
As she entered the company, dozens of people lined up on both sides, greeting in unison, "Good morning, Ms. Grey!"
She nodded slightly, and immediately seven or eight people surrounded her, nodding and following her quickly to the elevator.
The leading person handed her a stack of documents, "Ms. Grey, Mr. White said you can choose your own secretary, either by promoting from the secretarial office or hiring externally."
Not trusting the internal staff, Katniss chose to hire externally without hesitation.
"However, there's no need for them to come to White Corporation for an interview. I'll find them myself."
She didn't have the sharp eye to immediately identify disguised spies.
The best way was not to let them come to White Corporation for an interview but for her to hire them externally.
She entered the elevator, looked at the group following her, and raised her hand, "Gather the department heads for a meeting in ten minutes to report on the progress of the Runyon Corporation project. No need to follow me."
The white light in the elevator shone down from above, highlighting her sharp features.
Her slender figure in business attire exuded intelligence and precision.
Some people wanted to learn more about her, but found no opportunity.
The elevator slowly ascended and stopped at the top floor, where a tall figure stood outside.
As Katniss turned around, a bouquet of lilies came into view, filling the air with fragrance.
"Welcome back," Samuel smiled at her, handing over the flowers.
Katniss took the flowers, and the top-floor staff gathered around, much like when she first entered the company, nodding, "Good morning, Ms. Grey!"
Those working on the top floor were all Benjamin's people, and their greetings were evidently more sincere.
"I'm glad to be working with you all. Please take care of me in the future."
She took the flowers, smiled at Samuel, and extended her hand, "Samuel, I hope we can achieve great things together."
"Let's get to work first. Mr. White asked me to convey that there should have been a welcome party, but due to the busy schedule, it will be arranged after the Runyon Corporation project is settled," Samuel dispersed the crowd and led Katniss to her office.
In less than ten minutes, the front desk called, "Ms. Grey, Ms. Savoy from Synergy Global Corporation is here to see you."
"I'm very busy, no time," Katniss refused without hesitation.
The receptionist on the other end was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Ms. Savoy said she understands you must be very busy just starting your new position, but she really has something important to discuss with you. She is willing to wait."
"Let her wait then," Katniss decisively hung up the phone.
Since she didn't have a secretary yet, Katniss had to handle many small tasks herself during the meeting.
Perhaps it was because she hadn't been in the business world for a while, she felt a bit anxious and disorganized.
During the ten-minute break in the meeting, she drank a cup of coffee to settle herself and started to regain her composure.
At the end of the day, the receptionist told her that Eudora had waited until noon, had lunch, and then came back to wait, looking increasingly upset before finally leaving.
Before leaving, Eudora had asked for the receptionist to schedule a meeting with the general manager of White Corporation.
Someone as proud as Eudora wouldn't come to wait every day; Katniss had anticipated that Eudora's patience would only last half a day.
Now, a whole day had passed, which was half a day more than she had expected.
It was probably due to the immense pressure from Synergy Global Corporation.
After a day's work, her biggest wish was to quickly find a secretary to help share the small tasks.
As she returned home and saw Evie sleeping in the stroller, her fatigue vanished.
Two-month-old Evie had grown a bit, and aside from some resemblance to Tristan in her features, she mostly looked like Katniss.
Sophia strictly required her to wash her hands before touching Evie.
But by the time she finished washing her hands and returned, Aaron and Matilda had already surrounded the stroller.
They had come back earlier than her, one finishing homework and the other completing work.
"Katniss, you rest, I'll watch Evie."
"Yes, you've worked all day, we can handle it."
They pulled the stroller away from Katniss, afraid she would take Evie away.
Katniss couldn't help but laugh, looking tenderly at the sleeping Evie in the stroller.
She had little milk left, and Evie, used to formula, didn't want to breastfeed anymore.
But Evie still slept with her at night, so she spent a lot of time with her, watching her before bed and seeing her first thing in the morning.
Those clear eyes often melted her heart.
"Katniss, how's work?" Matilda, unable to compete with Aaron, sat to the side.
Katniss nodded, "It's fine. Being in a high position, no one dares to make things difficult for me except Benjamin, who is above me."
"That's good. You don't have to worry about the education institution; I can handle it."
Matilda smirked, "There were some issues recently, but I didn't tell you. I thought about how you would handle it and managed to resolve it!"
She had truly been able to support the education institution, even remotely managing work in Nightfall City smoothly.
"I knew you could do it. My work at White Corpor Katniss smiled with satisfaction.ation is quite stable for now, so it's up to you to support this big family."
Matilda was both happy and a bit shy.
"By the way, I need a favor." Katniss thought about how many people must have recognized her when she appeared at White Corporation today.
The White family would definitely be watching the new general manager and investigating her.
So it wasn't appropriate for her to personally hire a secretary.
"Can you go to the job market and hire a secretary for me? Don't reveal that it's for White Corporation. Offer the highest salary they expect."
"Sure, leave it to me. I'll pick someone smart!" Matilda promised confidently.
"No, just hire one. As long as you find someone efficient, it's up to you. I'll give you an employment contract, and you can have them sign it and bring them to meet me."
Katniss wanted to avoid any meetings before hiring to prevent White Corporation from bribing the new hire.
She had seen many dirty tricks in business, but Matilda was still too young and needed to follow her instructions.
After a while, Katniss asked, "Enough about work. How are things with George?"
"He said he would find time to talk to his mother about it and arrange a meeting when you return," Matilda smiled.
She glanced at the dining room and whispered, "But our mom has some opinions. If George's side is fine, Katniss, you have to help persuade our mom."
"Don't worry, mom will respect your choice. She might be unhappy because she thinks he's not mature enough, but she will agree," Katniss knew Sophia well.
Soon, Evie woke up, and the atmosphere became lively.
Katniss, as the mother, was pushed to the corner while everyone else took turns holding Evie.
At that moment, Samuel sent her a message: [Lunch with Milan tomorrow, bring the project plan. If all goes well, the plan will be finalized, and only the signing will remain.]
The next day's lunch went smoothly, and Milan was very satisfied with Katniss's project plan.
After making some meticulous adjustments to the details, they scheduled the signing for three days later.
With the matter settled, Katniss's welcome party as White Corporation's general manager proceeded as planned.
As news of her welcome party spread, so did the news of the impending contract signing between Runyon Corporation and White Corporation.
Eudora called every day to schedule a meeting but received no response.
Travis and Ivy couldn't sit still. They somehow got an invitation to White Corporation's welcome party and brought Eudora directly to the event.
