Chapter 418 Katniss Asked for It!

Jessica retorted angrily, "Talk about what? If you have something to say, talk to your son. Anyway, your son makes the decisions, what I say doesn't count."

"You see, your tone shows you have issues with him, too, right?" Ember hit the nail on the head, revealing Jessica's displeasure. "Rupert is straightforward and can't see through people's nature. He will suffer in front of Katniss."

Jessica, who was organizing the money at the counter, remained silent, waiting to hear more.

Ember continued, "According to the law, Katniss has fulfilled her obligations, but two thousand dollars a month is nothing to her. She doesn't respect me as her mother, so I don't care about her as my daughter."

"What exactly are you trying to say?" Jessica glanced outside, afraid Rupert might come back.

Ember also looked outside, then lowered her voice and said, "Let Katniss buy a villa for the child in your belly. I won't ask for the two thousand dollars a month anymore. A house to shut me up, and I'll cut off my relationship with her. Isn't that enough?"

Jessica's eyes lit up. A villa? That was expensive. They had made some money recently, but they were still far from being able to buy a villa.

It was clear that Katniss was fed up with Ember. If a villa could sever the relationship, would Katniss agree?

"I can't help you with this. You have to talk to Katniss yourself."

Ember immediately said, "You don't need to get involved. I don't want this to affect your relationship with Rupert. Just help me find an excuse. Otherwise, I can't leave the store every day."

Jessica's eyes turned, and she smiled as she linked arms with Ember, saying, "Mom, you're getting older. I've been feeling bad for you staying up late with us every day. I'll hire a waiter, and you can rest at home for a few days. No, when we buy the villa, the house will be big, and someone will need to clean it. I'm pregnant, and it's inconvenient for me. You won't have to work anymore, just stay at home."

After all, it was Ember who was asking Katniss for the villa.

So, giving Ember some benefits at this time was very necessary.

"OK."

The original plan to buy an ordinary house had now turned into a big villa because of Ember's words. Jessica couldn't be happier.

When she and Rupert wanted to buy a house before, Katniss refused. At that time, it would have cost only a million dollars. If she had settled them then, there wouldn't be so many problems now.

In the end, it was Katniss's own doing!

Tristan was late returning to the hospital. He was supposed to be back by three o'clock for an injection, but he didn't return until five.

The attending doctor was waiting in his room.

As soon as the door opened, he walked in slowly with Katniss, attracting several gazes.

Emory and Nicholas were particularly displeased.

The attending doctor and assistant were helpless and speechless.

Katniss immediately felt like a patient who had sneaked out for a date, as if Tristan had been lured away by her.

She wanted to let go of Tristan's hand.

Although he had said his fingertips were numb and he couldn't exert any strength, he held on so tightly that she couldn't break free.

"What are you looking at?" Tristan returned the gaze with displeasure. "It's just two hours late."

"Is it just about being two hours late?" Emory couldn't help but want to scold him. "You didn't answer calls or texts. Do you know how worried we are?"

Nicholas said with a grim face, "That's not the point. The point is you're sick now. How can you have the mood to go out and play? You should be staying in the hospital and receiving treatment!"

Tristan walked to the bedside, rolled up his sleeve, and exposed the veins on the back of his hand.

Because of the IV, the back of his hand was faintly marked with needle holes.

In just a few days, the needle marks were dense and shocking.

"Hurry up and give me the injection." He had to let go of Katniss.

Katniss glanced sideways, feeling a bit uncomfortable under the attending doctor's gaze, and tucked her hair behind her ear.

Before the doctor could remind Tristan to stay in the hospital for IV treatment, Nicholas and Emory sat her down on the sofa.

"We need to give you a lesson. If you bring him back and affect his treatment, making him infatuated with you every day, it would be better to let him fend for himself in the small village."

"At least in the small village, he received treatment on time every day. It's just that the transportation was inconvenient, and the blood tests were delayed."

They thought that once he returned, proper treatment would show results in a few days.

Now it seemed that not only was there no progress, but Tristan was also being disobedient.

After a while, Katniss said, "But today is the first day he went out to find me."

Taking responsibility for this made her feel really uncomfortable.

"He's been worried about you coming during the day these past few days, always thinking about whether there would be any movement on your side, and kept finding excuses to delay the IV treatment."

"Now that the doctor said it's okay to go out for some activities, he ran to find you. Nicholas and I offered to drive him because we were worried, but he refused, afraid we would disturb him from finding you."

Nicholas and Emory took turns expressing their serious concern to Katniss: she was really affecting Tristan's treatment.

Katniss glanced at the hospital bed. The doctor was administering the IV while saying seriously, "Mr. Forbes hasn't been resting well these days. His body is quite weak."

"Weak, my foot." Tristan shot a sharp look, retorted, "I'm just not used to being back."

He refused to admit that his mind had been preoccupied with Katniss and Evie since returning.

The once dark world now had light, filling his mind with countless thoughts, making it hard to sleep.

"Not used to what?" Nicholas added insult to injury. "Is it because of Katniss and Evie that you're not used to it? Then let's send him back to the small village."

"Let Maddy take care of him." Emory didn't spare his dignity either.

As soon as they finished speaking, Tristan took the pillow from behind him and threw it directly at them.

Emory blocked it, and it fell to the ground. The two of them were extremely arrogant.

Katniss watched them bicker, feeling a headache.

She really should come less often in the future.

"You take good care of him. I'll leave now." She picked up her bag and stood up, placing the pillow back on the bed.

She looked into Tristan's reluctant eyes for a few seconds and said, "Don't come looking for me if there's nothing important. Getting your injections is the most important thing. I'll come to see you when I'm free."

Without waiting for Tristan to respond, she nodded to the doctor and turned to leave.

It felt a bit like fleeing, as if she had lured the patient away from proper treatment and was now running away.

Back in the car, she contacted Ryan first to ask about Aaron's situation in prison.

"Everything has been arranged. You mentioned finding a way to get him out. I've passed the message along. It can be arranged, but..." Ryan sighed, "Aaron is quite stubborn. He asked the messenger to tell us that he's just a worthless life. Ms. Grey's appearance was the brightest moment in his life, and a fleeting brilliance is enough."

In the car, Ryan's voice was particularly heart-wrenching.

Katniss frowned, her clear eyes filled with a trace of pain. "Can you find a way for me to see him or at least talk to him?"
