Chapter 371 Tristan Shows Off Evie
Tristan was like a newlywed wife who wasn't favored, being coldly treated by Katniss's family.
As soon as they got back to the car, Katniss immediately said to Tristan, "Don't take Jessica's attitude to heart, she's just that kind of snobbish person."
In the past, if Jessica had met Tristan, she would have been very respectful.
But now, after seeing that news online, she knew that Synergy Global Corporation was failing, and that Zenith Group was launched in Katniss's name.
It made it seem like Tristan had fallen so low that he was even beneath Jessica and Rupert.
Tristan paused while fastening his seatbelt, a glint of light flashed in his eyes, and when he looked up, there was a hint of deliberately suppressed grievance. "Well, what can I do? I'm living under someone else's roof now."
"You're not living under someone else's roof." Katniss patted Evie's little hand and said, "You're Evie's biological father, and rightfully mine..."
Suddenly, she realized something, "We haven't remarried yet, have we?"
Tristan raised an eyebrow and said seriously, "Not too slow to realize, five days after I announced to the public that I joined the Grey family, you finally realized you haven't given me a legal status."
So, all this time, when others were talking about him joining the Grey family, she didn't realize he was reminding her of something?
"Why can't you just say it directly?" She complained.
"Can some things be said directly?" Tristan retorted.
Katniss replied, "Of course, we don't need to hide anything in our relationship."
Tristan pressed his thin lips together, stepped on the brake at the red light, his eyes reflecting a red glow, and said directly, "Then when your period is over, tonight can I..."
"Get lost!" Before he could finish, Katniss interrupted him with a grim expression.
Tristan wisely quieted down, and when the light turned green, he stepped on the gas. "So, some things are better understood without saying directly."
Katniss could see he was deliberately changing the subject.
He didn't care about Jessica at all; he came out with Katniss tonight just to accompany her.
Talking to Rupert was because he had a good relationship with Katniss and had prepared a gift for Evie.
He secretly checked, the little gold lock was solid, and he picked the expensive one.
Although he didn't care, he still took advantage of Katniss's guilt over Jessica's special treatment.
However, he knew Katniss was busy with work recently, so he let her go at midnight.
She mumbled, "Tomorrow I'll arrange my work, then we'll find time to go to City Hall to remarry."
"OK." Tristan held her in his arms, his chest pressed against her back, soft and fragrant.
The next day, when Katniss went to the company, Tristan was also preparing to go out with Evie.
It was said that he had arranged to meet Emory at the mall, along with Nicholas, to buy a gift for Saskia's upcoming birthday.
Katniss didn't expose his excuse to show off Evie, and drove away.
When she was leaving the community, she suddenly saw a familiar figure sneaking around the corner, but it was just a glimpse.
She had already turned onto the opposite road and couldn't go back, thinking she must have seen it wrong, she drove away.
Shortly after, Tristan drove off with Evie secured in the child seat.
Sophia sighed, looking at the empty house, and muttered, "Will I ever see a strand of Evie's hair again?"
Tristan would take Evie out every day.
Feeling bored at home alone, she wanted to message Matilda, but guessed she was busy too.
So she grabbed a coat and decided to go to the nearby supermarket to buy something to cook for them in the evening.
Ember, who had refused to help at the store, claiming a stomachache, was waiting outside the community, her eyes red with jealousy as she looked at the magnificent villa.
Just as she was worrying about how to get in, she saw Sophia coming out, dressed in expensive clothes, carrying a bag, looking like a wealthy lady.
She quickly rushed out and stopped Sophia.
The sudden appearance of Ember startled Sophia, but she calmed down and realized it was Ember. "What are you doing here?"
Ember laughed mockingly, "This is my daughter's house, can't I come? Where do you, a stepmother, get the nerve to ask me that?"
Sophia kept a stern face, not intending to argue with Ember, "If you're looking for Katniss, call her. She's at work, not at home."
"I'm not looking for Katniss, I'm looking for you." Ember put her hands in her pockets, and only then did she notice how well Sophia was maintained.
Look at those hands, probably never did any work!
Unlike her, she washes dishes and cleaning tables every day!
"What do you want with me? We have nothing to talk about." Sophia tried to walk past her but was grabbed by the arm.
Ember had a lot of strength. "Katniss is heartless, ignoring her mother. I can't reason with her, so I came to find you. How shameless can you be? You have a daughter, but insist on living in my daughter's house? I heard your daughter isn't married. What? Did she marry someone worse than Katniss? Is that why you're shamelessly staying here?"
There were quite a few people out for a morning walk, and having lived in this villa area for a long time, they were familiar faces.
Especially since Katniss and Tristan were public figures, Sophia didn't want to make a scene and embarrass them.
So she said in a low voice, "Don't pull me. If you want to talk, let's go to the café over there."
"A café? At your age, you want to take me there to show off that you've had coffee?" Ember had never been to a café, and the thought of going there just to watch Sophia show off made her sneer.
Sophia's face turned red with anger. "Then, where do you want to talk? Just don't pull and tug!"
Ember looked around, her eyes darting, "Let's talk at my daughter's house. As her mother, I haven't even been to her house."
Sophia hesitated, but she had no reason or right to refuse Ember from going to Katniss's house.
But she was worried that if she brought Ember home, she might cause trouble in the future.
She was overthinking, but it wasn't impossible. However, she didn't say it directly, "I left in a hurry and forgot my keys, so I can't go back. Let's find another place."
"Who are you trying to fool?" Ember said, raising her eyebrows, "Do you think I'm a three-year-old? Sophia, I never realized how shameless you are. What right does a stepmother have to stop me from going to my daughter's house?"
These words left Sophia speechless.
"My house is her house, so she has every right to stop you from going there." Katniss's car stopped by the roadside, and as she got out, she heard Ember's words.
Her delicate features were tinged with anger, and she walked over in high heels, her clear eyes filled with a layer of detachment and disgust.
"Ms. Stone, publicly intercepting and harassing my mother on the street is illegal, you know that?"
Combined with the previous lawyer's letter and Katniss's firm attitude, Ember knew she couldn't confront Katniss head-on.
Instantly, Ember forced a smile, "Katniss, don't talk to me like that. I just wanted to see you. I heard Sophia's daughter got married, and I thought marriage and childbirth happen quickly. So, Sophia would have to take care of her daughter, right? Who would take care of Evie then? Wouldn't it still be me?"
Her mouth opened and closed, making unreasonable arguments.
She glanced at Sophia with a look of threat and warning, reminding her not to stay.
Katniss's chest burned with anger. Ember and Jessica were truly a perfect pair of in-laws.
"My daughter, I will take care of her myself. Even if my mom has something to do and can't take care of her, I don't need an outsider like you to interfere. No matter how nicely you put it, I won't change my mind. Besides the filial support, we won't have any other ties."
With that, she pulled Sophia into the car, letting her sit in the passenger seat.
Ember, standing nearby, wanted to say something but was afraid of provoking Katniss. She could only watch as Katniss drove away in her expensive car with Sophia.
Left with the cold rear of the car, she sighed, patting her legs. How unlucky to be caught by Katniss.
Otherwise, manipulating Sophia, who was easy to bully, would have been simple.
Suddenly, she noticed a few onlookers by the roadside. Her eyes darted, and she sat on the ground, wiping her tears.
Seeing this, the onlookers quickly approached, gossiping.
"What happened to you?"
"I saw you know the lady from the Grey family?"
"What's your relationship? Are they bullying you?"
"Don't cry, tell us what's wrong. We might be able to help."
Ember rubbed her eyes hard until they hurt, then let go, her eyes red, "That's not the lady from the Grey family. Katniss is my daughter. She has nothing to do with Katniss. When I divorced Katniss's father, I wanted to take her with me, but I couldn't. Later, Katniss's father married that woman. That woman, relying on being Katniss's stepmother, paid for Katniss's education but made her treat her illness, spending a lot of money. Now she's clinging to my daughter, not letting her recognize me..."
In the speeding car, Sophia said anxiously, "Katniss, leaving her there alone, will it cause trouble?"
"No, if she can't get in, she'll leave." Katniss frowned, calming her anger, and comforted Sophia, "Mom, don't take her words to heart. You know how she treated me and how you treated me. You don't need to feel guilty in front of her."
Sophia sighed and nodded, "I'm not guilty. I'm just afraid of making a scene and embarrassing you. Otherwise, I would have left her there."
In another place, if no one knew Katniss, even if Ember made a scene, she wouldn't care.
"Katniss, this can't go on. I don't think she'll give up."
