Chapter 441 Accident

The nurse standing nearby watched Katniss with a sense of awe. She couldn't believe how well Katniss was handling everything, and yet she still hired her!

"I'll swing by whenever I can. Just take good care of him and do your job right. You'll get every bit of your pay," Katniss said, her voice low and firm, snapping the nurse back to reality.

The nurse couldn't miss the underlying message in Katniss's words.

She quickly nodded, "Don't worry, Miss Grey. I'll take good care of Mr. Forbes."

Katniss responded with a simple "Okay," her gaze fixed on Tristan, her eyes filled with a deep, reluctant sadness. "I have to go now. I might not be able to come by for a few days, but don't worry. I'll be back as soon as I can."

Her tone was gentle, almost like she was soothing a child.

She leaned close to Tristan's ear, looking at his perfectly chiseled face, her eyes welling up with tears. She sniffled, trying to hold back her emotions.

It wasn't herself she was worried about; it was Tristan. If he were unconscious, it might be easier. But if he was aware, lying there alone, what kind of loneliness and helplessness must he be feeling?

Katniss pressed her forehead against Tristan's cheek, determined to stay strong for him.

"If you wake up, call me. Your phone is right here on the table. I'll come immediately."

With that, she kissed Tristan's forehead.

He lay there motionless, like a knife twisting in her heart.

The next morning, Katniss got ready and headed to the office.

As soon as she arrived at White Corporation, her phone rang. It was Benjamin. "Katniss, where are you right now?"

His voice was urgent and serious.

"I just got to the office. What's going on?" Katniss asked, frowning.

"Come to my office right away!" Benjamin's tone left no room for delay.

Katniss hung up and quickly made her way to Benjamin's office.

Inside, Benjamin was pacing back and forth, his collar undone, his face showing signs of stress and fatigue.

It was clear something big had happened.

Katniss had a feeling something was wrong. She walked in briskly, "What's going on?"

Benjamin rushed over to her, his voice tense, "Have you seen Hazel?"

"What happened to her?" Katniss asked, her brow furrowing. "Isn't she with you?"

Benjamin's frown deepened. "She ran away. A few days ago, she said she was going to the baby store with the nanny, but she slipped away when the nanny wasn't looking."

Katniss's eyes widened. The last time she saw Hazel was when Benjamin had arranged for her to stay at the villa. Hazel had clearly stated she would have the baby no matter what. Why would she run away?

"She didn't take any money, her driver's license, or her passport. She can't leave Velvet City," Benjamin said, his voice filled with worry. A heavily pregnant woman with no money—what if something happened to her?

That was Benjamin's biggest concern.

"Keep looking for her," Katniss said after a moment of thought. "Check if she contacted anyone before she left."

Benjamin looked at her sharply. "What do you mean?"

He had never restricted Hazel's contact with the outside world. For the past few months, Hazel had been obedient and didn't bother him. But according to the nanny, she sometimes made phone calls in private.

Benjamin's eyes darkened. "Got it. I'll look into it. If she contacts you, let me know right away. You'll handle the company affairs for now."

Benjamin was planning to search for Hazel himself.

"Okay," Katniss agreed.

"How's Mr. Forbes?" Benjamin asked. "He was fine at the wedding a few days ago. Why is he suddenly unconscious?"

Close friends knew about Tristan's condition, but no one had asked Katniss while she was at the hospital.

"He'll be fine. He'll wake up eventually," Katniss said, raising an eyebrow.

Benjamin could see the pain in her eyes, despite her reassuring words.

He patted her shoulder. "If you need help, let me know."

"Okay," Katniss replied.

Benjamin had barely left when the assistant rushed into the office. "Ms. Grey, there's trouble at the construction site!"

Katniss's hand froze over the documents she was handling.

"Take me there immediately."

With Tristan unconscious, Hazel missing, and now trouble at the construction site, it was a string of bad luck. If she didn't pull herself together, who would handle this mess at White Corporation?

The assistant quickly drove Katniss to the site.

A worker had died in an accident, and the family was refusing to let the police investigate. They were even threatening to blow up the site.

The deceased was a woman. Her husband, a thin man in his thirties with a sallow complexion, had strapped himself with explosives. No one dared to approach him.

Katniss tried to reason with him. "Calm down. If there's an accident, we'll send the body for an autopsy. Our company will take responsibility and compensate you."

"Compensation? This company is a monster. The supervisor, Kurt Lowe, bullied the workers because his cousin is a manager at White Corporation. He withheld our wages and even harassed my wife. Kurt drove my wife to her death!"

"Find Kurt for me. I don't want your money. I want Kurt's head!"

Kurt had fled after the incident.

The man had no other option but to resort to this extreme measure to force Kurt out.

Normally, Benjamin would handle this, but he was searching for Hazel.

Katniss understood the situation and continued to calm the man. "If what you say is true, White Corporation will work with the authorities to arrest Kurt and compensate you. Please calm down. If anyone gets hurt, it won't help your cause."

"Hurt? My wife and child are gone. What do I have to lose? Kurt harassed my pregnant wife. He's a monster!"

The man's emotions were intense. He ignored Katniss's pleas and waved the explosives around.

Katniss's heart raced with fear.

In such a state, who would use their family's tragedy to extort money? The man hadn't even mentioned money!
