Chapter 428 Want to Beg Me to Save You?

The young nurse fidgeted as she spoke, "Your status is special. If you want to do something, I can call the guards outside."

"There's nothing special about me. I have parents who once treated me like a treasure, just like yours did." Eudora sighed, "But now I don't even have a chance to see them. What's the point of living?"

The young nurse, who already felt some sympathy for her, panicked immediately. "Don't say that. As long as you're alive, there's a chance to see them."

Eudora closed her eyes and said painfully, "There's no chance. I've been sentenced to death, and visitation is not allowed."

Death penalty? The young nurse's sympathy deepened, but she also knew that Eudora must have committed a serious crime.

Not knowing how to continue the conversation, the young nurse busied herself to avoid the topic.

"Can I ask you for a favor?" Eudora turned her head and looked at the young nurse. "Can you lend me your phone for a moment?"

"What do you want to do?" The young nurse hesitated, fearing she was dealing with a cunning death row inmate. Escape? Contact someone to break her out?

Various bad thoughts flooded her mind, and she was about to refuse.

Eudora interrupted her, "I just want to make a call to the only person I care about. If you're worried, you can stay here and watch."

She looked heartbroken, unable to suppress her longing for her family.

In the end, the young nurse couldn't bear it. She took out her phone from her white coat and unlocked it.

When Eudora took the phone, tears were already streaming down her face, and her throat choked up, making it seem like she couldn't speak.

"I'll be at the door, and you have five minutes at most." The young nurse didn't want to hear words of farewell and left with her things.

As soon as she left, Eudora wiped her tears and quickly dialed a number.

After just a couple of rings, the call was answered, and the sound of a group of men and women laughing and talking could be heard.

A familiar voice came from the other end.

Eudora gripped the phone tightly.

The next second, the man half-questioned, half-confirmed, "Eudora?"

"It's me." Eudora adjusted her breathing. "Michael, you must be having a tough time if you can't even afford a high-end club and have to go to such noisy places?"

The loud music on the other end was clearly from a cheap bar, with chaotic sounds all around.

Michael chuckled, "Better than you, isn't it?"

Eudora remained silent.

"What? Want me to save you?" Michael added.

"Do you even have the ability to save me?" Eudora retorted, "How can you compete with Tristan now? You know Tristan and Katniss are getting married, and you still can't do anything about it."

The sounds of revelry on the other end faded a bit, and Michael probably moved to a corner. "You called just to mock me, or to use me? Do you think I'm still that foolish?"

Eudora said, "If you ask me, I'd call it a win-win situation. But if you insist on saying I'm using you, I have nothing to say. You always blame Bella's mistakes on me alone, but have you ever thought that Tristan didn't want to be with me, which is why he accepted Bella's confession in college?"

"He didn't accept it." Michael knew all too well about Bella and Tristan. "He just didn't reject it, giving Bella a glimmer of hope."

"So, doesn't that count as using Bella?" Eudora countered, "There were so many rumors about them in the school, and even Bella was immersed in the fantasy Tristan unknowingly created. Why do you think Bella's downfall is solely my fault? It's your complicity, knowing Tristan didn't like her but still allowing Bella to get close to him! It's Tristan's manipulation. If it weren't for you two, how could I have harmed Bella?"

Every word hit home, and Michael had long known these facts.

After the Astor family went bankrupt, he could have continued to live in high society, but he felt guilty and remorseful.

Bella was still mentally unstable, so how could he enjoy wealth and luxury?

He willingly fell into hell to punish himself.

"It's not just your fault, nor mine. Tristan is also to blame!" Eudora said confidently, "And Katniss, too. If it weren't for her, Tristan might have married Bella. Now we're all in ruins, so why should they get to marry happily?"

She seemed like a grudge, crossing mountains in the dark night, piling up in Michael's heart, making him suffer even more, and filling him with resentment.

"Believe in yourself, you can do it."

Just as she finished speaking, the door to the ward opened, and Eudora hung up the phone and deleted the call record.

Then she handed the phone back to the young nurse. "Thank you, I have no regrets now."

Katniss and Tristan took Evie to the mall for the first time.

Almost ten-month-old Evie lay in the stroller, one foot on the handle, her big eyes looking around.

With a pacifier in her mouth, she looked even more adorable, melting the hearts of passersby.

It was Tristan who wanted to pick ingredients for Evie's baby food. He walked slowly in front of the shelves, and Katniss followed behind, her eyes always scrutinizing him.

Since entering the supermarket, his eyes hadn't left anything related to the baby, nothing related to her."How about this?" Tristan picked two flavors of sauce, "Baby-friendly. Do you think she prefers sweet or salty?"

Katniss glanced at the two bottles of sauce and said seriously, "She likes sour. Do they have that?"

Tristan was reading the ingredients when he suddenly caught the underlying meaning in her words.

He looked up and said earnestly to Katniss, "Then she must take after you."

"Not at all." Katniss retorted, "When you get sour, the whole Velvet City reeks of it!"

"It's not scary for Velvet City to be filled with sourness. What's scary is some people sulking and being too embarrassed to say it." Tristan put both bottles of different flavored sauces into the shopping cart.

He then smiled at Evie, "Mommy has this bad habit. Evie, don't learn from her."

"She'll get married someday." Katniss leaned her elbow on the stroller and poked Tristan's forehead. "She'll find a man who loves her more than you do, and she'll see him as her whole world. By then, you won't even have a place in her heart or mind."

Tristan's body stiffened, and he looked at her seriously. "Does hurting me like this make you feel better?"
