Chapter 426 Don't Cause Trouble
Late at night, the prison guard drove Eudora to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
The timely rescue saved her life, but she needed a couple of days to recover due to excessive blood loss.
Eudora got her wish to stay in the hospital for two days, and she didn't care about the pain in her wrist at all.
Only one prison guard was left to watch her at the hospital, standing at the door without coming in, while the doctors came in to check on her.
Knowing her special status, the doctors and nurses left immediately after doing their tasks without saying a word.
However, the nurse was an intern who had just graduated, around twenty years old, and couldn't bear to see her sad look.
Walking a bit away from the ward, the doctor instructed the nurse, "Pitiful people must have their hateful aspects. You don't know her, so don't ruin your career for her, understand?"
"When I was applying medicine, I saw her arms were covered in bruises. Do you think she suffered some inhumane treatment in prison?" The nurse still couldn't bear it. "Should we tell the prison guard?"
The doctor's face immediately turned serious. "Do you need to say it? Every place has its intrigues. You can't even handle your own affairs, and you still have the mind to care about others? I'll warn you one last time, don't cause trouble!"
The nurse quickly lowered her head. "Got it."
...
At a five-star hotel, Rupert got out of the taxi, adjusted his neatly ironed suit, stomped his feet to make sure everything was in order, and then entered the hotel.
He reported Katniss and Tristan's names to the waiter and was directly led to a private room.
Everyone was already there in the spacious private room, except for him.
But Sophia and Matilda had thoughtfully left a seat for Rupert next to Tristan.
"Rupert is here." Sophia pointed to the seat next to Tristan. "Come and sit down."
"Okay." Rupert, a bit nervous, responded and greeted Adelaide and the others.
After sitting down, he quietly listened to Adelaide and Sophia discussing the wedding details.
"Actually, the process is almost the same as we discussed last time, but this time we followed their suggestion to keep it low-key, with fewer guests."
Adelaide took out a box, opened it, and inside were some property deeds.
Finally, there was a black bank card. "This is the gift I prepared last time. For them, the amount of money doesn't matter anymore. It's $10,010,000, symbolizing that Katniss is one in a million for Tristan."
Sophia, sitting next to Adelaide, just went along with it, always looking at Katniss's opinion first.
"Additionally, there's something I've never mentioned." Adelaide took out an agreement from the bottom of the black box.
"This is the divorce agreement Katniss signed when she left Velvet City, but I actually switched it. Inside is a prenuptial agreement stating that if they ever get divorced, half of the Forbes family assets will go to Katniss."
This was also part of Adelaide's plan.
At that time, although the shares were under Travis's name, most of the Forbes family assets had been transferred to Tristan.
She thought that if Tristan really failed, at least there would still be Katniss's assets.
Whether it was Katniss's or Tristan's, at least it wouldn't all fall into Travis's hands.
Katniss suddenly looked up, the scenes of signing the agreement replaying in her mind, so she and Tristan... weren't divorced yet?
What was the point of talking about remarriage?
"What did I sign?" Tristan stood up abruptly, a complex emotion surging in his heart, and walked to Adelaide's side to pick up the two agreements.
They were almost identical, except that he stated that if he got the Forbes family company shares and divorced due to emotional discord, he would give Katniss half of the shares as compensation.
Katniss was someone Adelaide had carefully chosen, and she didn't want to treat her unfairly.
That incident was a lifelong pain for her. She was wrong, but it didn't negate her previous kindness to Katniss.
Warmth filled Katniss's heart again. She smiled slightly, walked to Adelaide's side, and said, "No matter what, thank you for what you did back then, especially this agreement."
She glanced at Tristan holding the agreement. His eyes were deep, and she could tell what he was thinking.
Seeing the marriage certificate in the box, a familiar feeling came over her.
She picked it up and opened it.
In the photo, she looked young and a bit lost and confused.
Next to her, Tristan's features were handsome. Though not as imposing as now, he still seemed intimidating compared to her back then.
"I'll keep this myself from now on." She put the marriage certificate in her bag.
If he didn't agree to remarry, she wouldn't force it.
Her obsession would only burden him.
But now, they weren't divorced.
A slight sweetness filled her heart. She ignored his cold demeanor and turned back to sit down.
Tristan lowered his eyes, put the documents back, and sat down, his expression unreadable.
Sophia sighed softly but still said to Adelaide, "They've been through so many hardships. As long as they're happy, I'm fine with anything."
"Yes." Adelaide looked at Tristan. Although no one told her what happened, she roughly understood seeing Tristan's limited mobility.
At this time, Katniss was still willing to marry him, which made Adelaide very happy.
Rupert remained quiet, barely eating anything, afraid of embarrassing Katniss.
Seeing his discomfort, Katniss kept serving him food. "Just treat it like home. Don't be so reserved. There will be more people at my wedding, and you can't go hungry at my wedding feast, right?"
"Definitely not." Rupert smiled honestly. "Someone said that you must eat well at a wedding feast as a blessing to the newlyweds."
"Isn't this also a blessing?" Katniss gestured to him, "It won't taste good if it gets cold. Eat first."
Rupert put down his utensils and took out a card from his pocket. "Katniss, this is my gift to you. I didn't know what to buy, so I thought I'd give you the card to buy something yourself."
His hand holding the card had a few burn scars, contrasting with the clean black card.
Usually, such a card required a balance of at least $500,000, so it had at least that amount.
Katniss didn't take it. "I've already been married. This is just a wedding ceremony, no need for gifts."
"It's not about need." Rupert explained softly, "Marriage is a lifelong event. You had a secret wedding before, but I was poor. But now you're having a ceremony, I have to take it seriously."
