Chapter 465 Get Rewarded Generously
Katniss nudged Marigold's arm instead of taking the file. "Hey, Marigold, can you handle this for me? I've got a ton of work to finish up."
"Sure, no problem," Marigold replied, grabbing the file and walking away.
The senior employee thanked them and hurried off to the restroom. Katniss stood there, lost in thought for a moment, before turning to leave.
She didn't go because she knew Dwayne would be on high alert since she was new. It was better to play dumb than to tip him off.
Seeing Atticus bring that girl upstairs and then looking at her like he'd seen a ghost, Katniss figured he hadn't planned to bring the girl over. It must have been an accident.
She decided to act like she didn't know anything.
A little while later, Katniss saw the CEO's private elevator come down to the first floor. She rushed to the window, pulled out her phone, and used the magnifier to see Dwayne and the girl getting into a car and leaving in a hurry.
The girl was so young, and her outfit was so outrageous that Katniss was momentarily shocked. Was this really his type?
She went back to work, but after a while, she searched for the girl's photo online and sent it to Tristan.
[?] Tristan replied quickly.
She asked directly: [Do you like her?]
[Are you nuts?] His response implied she was acting like a creep.
Katniss tossed her phone aside and buried herself in work again.
By eight o'clock, the office was nearly empty. She slowly made her way downstairs and immediately spotted a car parked by the street.
Evie's voice came from inside.
The photo from the afternoon must have affected Tristan because he looked upset and didn't even roll down the window until Katniss got in the car.
He glanced at her, then started the engine and drove off.
Katniss hadn't had dinner yet, so he took her to eat before heading home.
She showed him the photo she took of Dwayne and the girl leaving that afternoon. It wasn't very clear since it was zoomed in, but she could tell the girl was pretty.
"Can you ask Ryan to look into this girl?"
Tristan glanced at the photo and said, "Ryan's a person, not a magician. With a photo this blurry, he could come up with hundreds of matches."
That was true. Katniss reluctantly put her phone away and said, "Then tomorrow, can he find out where Dwayne lives?"
"Ryan's flying out early tomorrow for a business trip. It'll be a seven or eight-hour flight," Tristan replied. "Will tomorrow afternoon work?"
It wasn't a matter of timing; Katniss was just eager to find out more about the girl. She sighed and lay back. "Just let me know as soon as he finds out."
After a long day, she was exhausted.
Tristan glanced at Katniss in her nightgown, her long legs exposed. His eyes darkened for a moment.
But he looked away, covered her with a light blanket, and asked, "Banks Far Company, right?"
"Yeah," she replied, turning to hug Evie and falling asleep.
The next morning, Katniss returned to the office early. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she ran into Connie.
Connie gave her a cold look before turning away.
Clearly, the unfinished files from the previous day weren't enough to justify Connie's hostility.
Katniss sat down to work, noticing that Marigold had moved to the desk next to hers.
"Marigold, do you know where Mr. Larson lives?" she asked casually while booting up her computer.
Marigold shrugged. "No idea. Why would I care about someone his age? But I did hear that Mr. Banks and Mr. Larson live in the same neighborhood."
Katniss's eyes lit up. "Which neighborhood does Mr. Banks live in?"
"I haven't figured that out yet," Marigold said with a smile, showing her small canine teeth. "I just started here, so people won't tell me much. But I've been getting friendly with the company drivers. They definitely know where Mr. Banks and Mr. Larson live, down to the exact building."
"Can you find out for me?" Katniss winked at her. "Let me know when you do."
Marigold was about to agree, but then paused. "Are you interested in Mr. Larson? He's a bit old, don't you think? And he's got that unclear relationship with that young girl. If he's into anyone, it would be someone like her."
Katniss almost choked on her own spit.
Before she could recover, Marigold nudged her shoulder. "Listen, you should join me in liking Mr. Banks. I won't compete with you; we'll just see who does better."
The conversation was getting more ridiculous, and Katniss could barely keep her smile.
"But that young girl seems to have a good relationship with Mr. Banks, too," Marigold mused, rubbing her chin. "I'm starting to think Mr. Banks likes her, but she's with Mr. Larson."
Katniss straightened up and picked up a file, ignoring Marigold's wild speculations.
But she did think of something.
So Violette really had been bribed by Dwayne, and even Atticus was helping him cover things up.
That left Charlotte alone in the Banks family, unable to even leave the Banks Manor. The thought was worrying.
"She's here," Marigold whispered suddenly. "Katniss, the girl, is on the top floor, chatting with the secretaries."
Marigold had a bubbly personality and had made many friends in the company in just a few days, even getting into the top-floor secretaries' group chat.
Apparently, the girl was in the group, too, chatting and sending money.
It looked like they were playing some game where the loser had to send money.
Katniss glanced at the girl's Facebook name: [Princess Elara].
"Can you add me to the group?" Katniss asked.
The group wasn't a work group; it included people from various departments who liked to have fun.
So Marigold added her without much fuss.
Katniss opened 'Princess Elara's profile and sent a friend request.
Within three to five minutes, it was accepted.
The next second, a money transfer popped up, leaving Katniss stunned.
[People who suck up to me get rewarded generously.]
Katniss hesitated for a long time, her finger hovering over the block button, but she resisted the urge.
She didn't accept the money or reply, instead opening Facebook.
Facebook had a location feature, showing the exact building and unit.
"Does Mr. Banks live in the Lakeside Villas?" she asked Marigold.
Marigold thought for a moment. "He does live in that area. I saw his car heading that way when I took the bus, but I'm not sure exactly where."
