Chapter 392 You Will Kill Him

Tristan's thin lips were tightly pressed together as he turned and left with a heavy heart.

But his physical condition was deteriorating, and even a slightly faster pace would cause him to lose balance. He stumbled and fell to the side.

Katniss, her eyes blurred with tears, instinctively rushed over to support Tristan. "Are you okay?"

Her eyes were full of worry, and the tear stains at the corners of her eyes seemed to accuse him!

Tristan's eyes flickered slightly, and before she could see clearly, he used all his strength to push her away.

Caught off guard, Katniss staggered back and fell to the ground, her hands scraping against the floor, leaving her palms covered in blood. She gasped in pain.

But she didn't care about her injuries and looked up in Tristan's direction.

What she feared happened.

The way he looked at her was as if she were a stranger, cold and unfeeling, without a trace of pity."Tristan..." Katniss called his name, but it didn't elicit any emotional response from him.

"Please have some self-respect and don't come here again."

Tristan said coldly, turning and walking towards the house.

His movements were slow but without hesitation, giving the impression that he wanted to escape from Katniss.

This thought nearly drove her mad. She stood up to chase after him, but was stopped by Maddy.

"He doesn't want to see you. You should leave."

Maddy said as she pushed Katniss out.

The frail Katniss was no match for Maddy, a woman accustomed to hard labor.

In no time, she was pushed to the door.

Finally, she grabbed the door handle tightly, her hands becoming bloody and raw, which frightened Maddy.

"What do you want to do?"

Maddy let go, a bit scared. "If you keep this up, I'll call for help! This is my house. How can you be so unreasonable?"

"He's my husband in the eyes of the law. Who's being unreasonable, don't you know?"

Katniss's clear eyes were filled with determination, but the mist forming in them shattered her strength.

Maddy looked at her, seemingly moved by pity.

But only for a few seconds, before her face turned serious again. "Does he remember you? He only knows me. His world only has me now!"

With that, she slammed the door shut.

Desperate cries were carried by the sea breeze into the sky, only to be smashed against the shore by the waves, becoming foam that left no trace.

The room was deathly silent, as if no one was inside.

"Tristan..." Katniss murmured. Could she not bring him back?

Perhaps having experienced the greatest despair, her shattered strength pieced back together, making her resolute... she would never give up!

"Leave now! Don't ever come back and disturb our lives again!"

Maddy's voice came from inside.

She looked up at the closed door, thinking of Tristan's cold and unfeeling eyes. Her heart felt as if it were being crushed, the pain making her taste blood with every breath.

Emory and Nicholas, not far away, heard the commotion and hurried over.

Seeing the disheveled Katniss, their eyes widened in shock.

Emory was the first to react. He stepped forward to help Katniss up. "Why do you put yourself through this..."

He couldn't finish his sentence, not because he didn't know what to say.

But because Katniss had turned to look at him, her red eyes stared intently at him.

It was as if she could see into his soul, making him feel that all the lies he had told her were now laid bare.

Emory sighed heavily. "Let's go back to the hotel."

This time, Katniss didn't object, but she didn't let Emory help her either.

She pushed him away and staggered to the car, opening the door and half-leaning inside.

Emory and Nicholas exchanged a look, both filled with helplessness.

At the hotel.

Emory paced back and forth on the floor.

Nicholas rubbed his temples. "Stop pacing. You're making me dizzy."

"I don't want to pace either, but she found him after three months. What do we do next?"

He plopped down beside Nicholas, his tone full of frustration. "Seeing her like that, I really can't bear it. But Tristan won't go with her. How can we make her give up?"

"You should try to persuade her..."

"Stop." Emory smiled bitterly. "In her eyes, I'm already the biggest villain. She won't listen to anything I say."

Nicholas took a deep breath. "I'll go then."

He left the room and knocked on Katniss's door.

To his surprise, she looked very calm, her eyes a bit swollen, her face dry, with no tear stains.

Not crying was a good sign.

But when he saw the untouched dinner on the table, he couldn't help but sigh again.

"No need to sigh. Finding him is already a blessing from God. I'm very happy." Katniss's voice was extremely calm, but it seemed to carry the sound of her heart crying.

Each cry was filled with despair, yet silent.

It made Nicholas's heart ache.

Tristan knew her so well. How could he not know her inner torment at this moment?

How conflicted must he be?

After much deliberation, it all came down to one sentence.

"Katniss, give up."

Katniss didn't speak, just looked steadily at Nicholas.

Nicholas didn't avoid her gaze and met her eyes. "You've seen Tristan's condition. It's not just bad; it's terrible. He has no desire to remember the past and is very resistant to anything related to it. If you keep seeking him out, it might trigger him and worsen his condition."

Seeing that she didn't react emotionally, he continued.

"The doctor said he forgot the past because of a great shock. If you keep stimulating his nerves, you might end up killing him."

"Do you think I would kill him?"

"That's not what I meant."

"Nicholas." Katniss's voice was very calm. "I thought you were different from others. After all, you watched Tristan and me go through so much to build a home and have Evie."

Thinking of Evie, who was still learning to talk, her tears fell again, and she sniffled lightly. "He became like this because of me and Evie. How can I give up on him?"

She closed her eyes, her voice lowering as if she were talking to herself. "When I first heard you say he fell into the sea, I thought he was gone. But I still searched for him like crazy. If I don't look for him, what reason and meaning do I have to live?"
