Chapter 185 Don't Ever See Me Again
"You, young lady, don't you have any self-respect?" Uriah snapped at Saskia.
Then he turned to Nicholas, "I've told you before, stop hanging out with shady people. Look at the mess you've made."
Nicholas just pursed his lips, staring hard at Saskia.
He didn't say anything, and Saskia didn't budge, making things super awkward. Uriah didn't waste any time, "Security, get this person out of here."
"If anyone touches me, I'll kill myself right outside this hotel!" Saskia shot back. "Mr. Kennedy, no need for security. Just have your son answer me, and I'll leave."
If she died here, it would be a huge scandal.
The Kennedy family and the Tudor family would be at odds forever.
Uriah gritted his teeth and told Nicholas, "Get rid of her!"
Nicholas clenched his jaw, looking away from Saskia, lost in thought, his brow furrowed.
Pain, conflict, and all sorts of emotions flashed across his face.
The silence was driving everyone nuts and putting Saskia in a tough spot.
"Saskia, can't you see? He might have some feelings for you and doesn't want to embarrass you in front of everyone. If you have any sense, just leave." Isla hooked her arm around Nicholas's, noticing his stiffening body. Her expression changed slightly, but she quickly recovered.
Saskia's eyes trembled slightly as she asked, "Is that true?"
Nicholas stayed silent, his eyes downcast, making it impossible to read his thoughts.
Uriah muttered something under his breath, urging Nicholas to handle the situation quickly.
But Nicholas didn't budge, neither rejecting nor agreeing.
Saskia let out a cold laugh, "Fine, I get it. If you don't come with me, don't ever see me again."
With that, Saskia turned and left, her pink dress swirling in the air.
Nicholas snapped back to reality, watching her push through the crowd and rush out.
He took a step forward, but Uriah grabbed his shoulder, "Try stepping out of here today."
Nicholas felt all the strength drain from his body, watching Saskia's figure disappear from the hall in despair.
Uriah signaled for everyone to continue the engagement party.
"I'll go check on Saskia," Katniss said, feeling sorry for her as she saw Nicholas not chasing after her.
Tristan noticed her furrowed brows and said softly, "Nicholas's mom is unwell and can't take any shocks, so he can't just leave."
Katniss then realized that Nicholas's mom hadn't attended his engagement party.
It was clear how bad her condition was.
"I get it. I'll try to talk to her. You go handle your stuff," she said.
Tristan still looked worried, "Stay in touch. I should be able to leave in about an hour."
Seeing his concern, Katniss said, "I've only been away from Velvet City for a year, not like I've never been here. What are you worried about?"
Wrapping up the conversation, Tristan handed her the car keys. As she left the hotel, she saw Saskia's car heading off.
She quickly got into Tristan's car and followed.
In her rush, she didn't notice Isla watching her.
As soon as Saskia ran out, Isla saw the woman in the down jacket standing next to Tristan—it was Katniss.
She had seen Katniss with Saskia earlier and thought she was just some useless friend Saskia had made after hitting rock bottom.
She didn't expect it to be Katniss!
It must have been Katniss who pushed Saskia to cause trouble. Were they teaming up to mess with her?
She gritted her teeth, excused herself to the restroom, and called Bella, only to learn she was in Nightfall City.
"You said Katniss went to Velvet City?" Bella was surprised. She was waiting to see Katniss clean up the mess at the educational institution!
Who would have thought Katniss would run to Velvet City to find Tristan? Was she sucking up to Tristan and ignoring the education institution's mess?
"Yeah, she and Saskia just caused a scene at my engagement party," Isla recounted.
"And you're okay with that? If you don't take this chance to get back at her, you'll be a laughingstock for life." Bella taunted her before hanging up, thinking Katniss must have gone to Velvet City to seek Tristan's help.
She had to escalate the situation before Tristan could step in!
Isla, frustrated and unwilling to let it go, quickly dialed another number.
Saskia's car wandered through the streets of Velvet City. After leaving the Stuart family, she went to Nightfall City.
She had nowhere to go except the Stuart family.
Katniss found a chance to force her car to stop, got out, and knocked on Saskia's window.
The window rolled down, revealing Saskia's tear-streaked but sober face.
The smell of alcohol was overwhelming.
"In just a bit, it'll be time for DUI checks. If you don't want to end up in the police station, get out now and get in my car." Katniss reached in to unlock the car door, opened it, and pulled Saskia out, placing her in the passenger seat.
She parked Saskia's car in a nearby spot and then drove off with her.
At this point, Saskia was super quiet.
Leaning against the seat, she stared out the window, her eyes red from drinking and crying.
"Elysian Hotel," Saskia mumbled, and Katniss realized that was where she was staying.
It was just a basic, clean hotel, with rooms costing no more than $50 a night.
This place was new to Katniss, who was used to five-star hotels when she was with Tristan.
She used the GPS to find it. As she parked and unbuckled her seatbelt, she heard Saskia ask, "Are you going back to Nightfall City?"
"Yeah, of course. When are you leaving?" It was already December 27th, and she had promised Matilda to pick Sophia up from the hospital on the 29th.
"Tomorrow. I'm all set, but we can't leave without you seeing Tristan," Saskia said.
Saskia unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. Before closing the door, she said, "You can go back. I'm fine."
Before she could finish, Katniss unbuckled her seatbelt and got out too. She closed the car door and walked over to her, pulling her towards the hotel. "By the way, here's your car key. Your car is parked over there. Remember to take it before you leave tomorrow."
Katniss took the car key out of her pocket, afraid she might forget to give it to Saskia.
Saskia paused for a few seconds, took the car key, and then turned around and threw it into the trash can. "It's not my car; it's Nicholas's. He lent it to me. How thoughtful."
Katniss's mouth twitched. That car was worth at least a few hundred thousand dollars.
Next to the hotel was a supermarket. Saskia dragged her in to buy a pack of beer and some snacks.
It looked like she was going to drown her sorrows in alcohol again.
Katniss didn't stop her; she just made it clear that she couldn't drink because of her stomach issues.
"Then you just watch me drink. If I get drunk, just throw me on the bed and leave." Saskia sniffled, opening the door to her room. "What’s with the Kennedy family? I drank so much and didn't even get drunk. Could it be fake alcohol?"
The Kennedy family would never buy fake alcohol; this was just Saskia's way of venting.
Having just checked in that morning, the room was clean and tidy. Saskia pulled her to sit on the blanket by the window. "Life is so wonderful. Some people are freezing in the snow, and I can drink a little wine to relax in this room. Katniss, I'm lucky I ran into you. Otherwise, I'd be starving. So, Katniss, you must be happy." She clung to Katniss's arm, eating, drinking, and talking non-stop.
"I met Mrs. Forbes at the hospital today," Katniss said with a slight smile. "She doesn't oppose me being with Tristan, so don't worry about me. Focus on your situation, and don't act impulsively. Tristan and I will help you as much as we can."
Saskia's body stiffened, and she sat up straight, looking at her. "That's great news! Mrs. Forbes is a shrewd woman. If she approves of you, then your relationship with Tristan is solid!"
A shrewd person? While not the most polite description, it was fitting for Adelaide.
Katniss also thought Adelaide was very calculating.
"As long as Mrs. Forbes doesn't change her mind, Katniss, you'll be the hostess of the Forbes family. Who wouldn't show you respect? I need to stay close to you." Saskia started to talk drunkenly, clinging to Katniss's arm and humming.
Katniss responded softly, looking down to reply to Tristan's messages.
The Kennedy family's engagement party continued as if Saskia's interruption had never happened. But since Saskia left, Nicholas's face had been grim.
After briefly discussing Nicholas and Saskia, Tristan got back to the main topic and asked what Adelaide had said.
She vaguely replied that they would talk about it when they met later.
Unexpectedly, Tristan managed to leave Nicholas's engagement party in less than half an hour.
Saskia was already drunk and lying on the floor.
Not feeling at ease, Katniss booked a room next door and asked Tristan to meet her there.
Half an hour later, Tristan arrived, his tall figure looking out of place in the narrow hallway.
It was the first time Katniss had seen him in such a modest hotel, dressed in a suit and exuding an air of elegance.
His entire outfit could probably buy the hotel, and the front desk personally escorted him up.
"Do we have to be here?" Tristan glanced around, his brows furrowing deeply.
The air was filled with an indescribable smell.
Katniss pointed to Saskia's room and said, "She drank too much and is asleep now. What if she wakes up in the middle of the night and runs off?"
Tristan checked his watch and said nothing more, following Katniss into the adjacent room.
Two single beds with a cabinet in between, but he said nothing.
"How are you feeling?" He was referring to her stomach issues.
"Still a bit uncomfortable, but I haven't had to use the bathroom." Katniss said, then added, "Strenuous activity might not be a good idea!"
