Chapter 438 Uncertainty
However, unexpectedly, there was a traffic jam on the way.
By the time the traffic police cleared the road, Katniss arrived at the hospital at 3:10 PM.
"Should I say you came at the right time or the wrong time?"
Emory saw her, pulled the corners of his lips in a feigned nonchalance, and glanced at the operating room.
"What do you mean?" Katniss, who had run up, was a bit out of breath. "Why are you at the operating room door? Where is he?"
Emory pointed to the operating room with the red light on, "Inside."
The glaring red light in the upper left corner reflected in Katniss's clear eyes, and she couldn't help but frown tightly, "What do you mean?"
"The test results are out. His physical condition is good, meeting the criteria for the antidote injection. He is now in the operating room getting the antidote."
Although the antidote was developed, unexpected incidents still had to be considered.
That was why Tristan was arranged to receive the antidote in the operating room, where all the emergency equipment was available.
Hearing what Emory said, Katniss's face became even more solemn. She walked to the corner and leaned against the wall, saying nothing.
She stood outside the operating room, her eyes fixed on the door.
"This is something Tristan asked me to give you." As he spoke, Emory reached out to Katniss.
Katniss noticed a shiny heart-shaped diamond ring in his open palm!
It was their wedding ring.
Her breath hitched, her clear eyes trembled twice, and she slowly raised her hand to take Tristan's ring.
"Can I really not go in?" Her voice was hoarse, and her eyes reddened the moment she looked up.
Tristan had Emory give her the wedding ring, which was clear enough.
He had prepared for the worst.
Noticing the sadness in her eyes, Emory shook his head helplessly, "If you had come earlier, you could have gone in with him. Now, you can't."
Katniss's throat choked, and she dared not think about the worst outcome.
But her body had already made the most genuine reaction, her sour nose stinging her eyes with mist.
Emory couldn't bear to see Katniss cry, fearing that if she cried, he would cry too; after all, Tristan was his friend for many years.
He deliberately vented his emotions.
"Lucas is a bastard, but not completely bad. Don't worry, the antidote is definitely real. It's just that no one can predict the reaction after using the drug, but we're in a hospital, so what are we afraid of?"
Katniss turned to wipe away the tears at the corners of her eyes, a glimmer of hope igniting in her heart, "Not afraid."
In the hospital, no matter what reaction Tristan had, whether the antidote was real or not, at least he would keep his life.
She gripped the wedding ring Tristan left her tightly.
No matter the outcome, she would wait and stay by his side.
Half an hour later, the big light outside the operating room suddenly went out.
Katniss quickly rushed to the door, and soon, a doctor came out of the operating room.
She couldn't wait to ask, "Doctor, how is he?"
"The antidote has been injected, but Mr. Forbes has not woken up yet. However, his physical signs are all good. Now we need to send him back to the ward for observation."
Tristan, who was sent back to the ward, still did not wake up. Katniss asked the doctor, "When will he wake up?"
"Well, the drugs in his body have some uncertainties, so it's not certain when he will wake up."
The doctor wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, afraid that Katniss would lose her composure.
Hearing what the doctor said, and looking at Tristan lying on the hospital bed, Katniss felt very heavy-hearted.
But she said nothing more, just held Tristan's hand tightly, her eyes firm.
No matter what, she would stay until he woke up!
However, a day passed, and Tristan still did not wake up.
Seeing Katniss staying by Tristan's side all the time, Emory felt uncomfortable, "It's already 7 PM now. You should go back and take care of Evie. I'll watch over here."
Katniss finally looked up; the sky outside was already dark, and Evie was still waiting for her at home.
"Tristan, we still have Evie. You promised me that you would take me around the world. You can't break your promise!"
Always independent, Katniss finally couldn't hold it together at this moment.
If Tristan never woke up, what would she and Evie do?
Seeing this, Emory's expression darkened. He then handed a tissue to Katniss, "Although the doctor couldn't give a specific result, this is not the worst outcome. At least after the antidote injection, he didn't die, and his physical reactions are all normal."
It was just that he hadn't woken up!
In this situation, they could only continue to wait!
Katniss wanted to say something, but didn't know where to start.
The next second, Emory continued, "After the drug injection, the body can't move, and the person is in a coma. Maybe this is a process of absorption, and his brain is still clear."
"Katniss, he doesn't want to see you like this either. Go home and see the child, and take care of yourself."
Knowing that Katniss was the person Tristan cared about the most, seeing her like this would make Tristan feel distressed too.
If his brain was still clear, and he got anxious, causing other reactions, that would be bad! Moreover, he wouldn't want to see Katniss break down.
The more Katniss listened to Emory's words, the more uncomfortable she felt.
In an instant, her heart felt like it was pierced by thousands of arrows.
She slowly leaned close to Tristan's ear, "Tristan, I'm going home to see Evie now. I'll come back to see you tomorrow."
"You have to be okay. I'll wait for you to wake up and fulfill your promises to me. Don't let me down."
As she spoke, it felt like a thorn was stuck in her throat, making it hard to speak.
After speaking, she placed the wedding ring that Tristan had Emory give her back into his hand.
Seeing Katniss's face full of sorrow and gloom, Emory sighed deeply.
Poor lovers.
Hopefully, God wouldn't play a joke on them.
"I'll walk you out." Emory stopped his thoughts and spoke to Katniss.
Katniss shook her head, lightly curling her lips, "You watch over him. I'm leaving."
With that, she turned and left.
The moment she turned, Tristan's hand slightly curled.
In less than forty minutes, Katniss returned home from the hospital.
Sophia saw her come back alone and couldn't help but frown, "Why are you alone? Didn't Tristan come back?"
Seeing Katniss's poor state, Sophia couldn't help but feel nervous.
Hearing this, Katniss opened her mouth, wanting to respond, but thinking of Tristan lying on the hospital bed, her heart ached uncontrollably.
Her throat choked, and she couldn't speak.
At this moment, Sophia seemed to understand something. She handed Evie, who was in her arms, to Katniss, "You play with Evie for a while. I'll go make dinner, it won't take long."
Now, the only thing that could make Katniss feel better was Evie.
