Chapter 255 Her life was given by me
Jessica couldn't think about anything else; her mind was fixated on that huge mansion calling out to her.
"The Forbes family is that loaded?" Ember had only seen the Synergy Global Corporation building and still couldn't wrap her head around just how rich the Forbes family was.
A mansion? And more than one?
"Mom, you were way too hasty today." Jessica kicked off her shoes and plopped down cross-legged on the bed. "You and Katniss have no emotional connection. If you go straight for her money, do you think she'll just hand it over?"
Hearing this, Ember realized she might've messed up but couldn't bring herself to admit it. She said, "Wasn't I just anxious? Rupert is still in those people's hands. I need money."
If she really cared about Rupert, how could she have pawned him to loan sharks?
But Jessica didn't call her out on it and said, "Then you might as well ask her directly. She has some feelings for Rupert. Wouldn't she give money to save his life?"
Thinking of Katniss, Ember realized that she had feelings for Rupert but none for her. This made Ember even angrier.
She owed $30,000. If she gave all $30,000 to Rupert, what money would she have left?
Would Katniss give more? That was why Ember had her eyes on this money.
"Stop talking so much and figure out where she lives and what she's up to now," Ember said.
Finding out about Katniss wasn't hard. Jessica asked a few colleagues at Synergy Global Corporation and got some leads.
Katniss was now a top tutor at a very popular educational institution.
Jessica quickly searched online for educational institutions, checking out the top-ranked ones in the country and finally found the one Katniss was working at.
She then looked up the company's info online and was shocked to find that Katniss was the registered owner of the educational institution!
She said, "Mom, she's really rolling in it now. Look, she even started her own company. Do you know how profitable the education industry is now? She must be making at least tens of thousands of dollars a month!"
There was even a physical store in Nightfall City, and the online course software was a hit nationwide!
Ember replied, "That's good to know. Check where this educational institution is, and we'll go find her tomorrow."
She craned her neck to look at Jessica's phone, but she didn't understand much, so it was pointless.

Ember instinctively shrank behind Jessica.
"What do you want?" Jessica said reluctantly. "Are you trying to bully two women?"
"You must be Ember and Jessica, here to see Miss Grey?" The bodyguard spoke, his tone harsh. "With us here, you won't get close to Miss Grey. Don't look for trouble."
As he spoke, the two bodyguards flexed their wrists, ready to act at any moment.
Ember, scared by the debt collectors, grabbed Jessica and ran.
They ran a block away and sat down on the street, panting heavily.
"That scared me to death. We haven't even seen Katniss, and we almost lost our lives!" Ember said, patting her chest in fear.
Jessica turned sharply and remarked, "Mom, Katniss is relying on Tristan's support and plans to disown you. How will you see her like this? What about Rupert?"
She was very annoyed with Ember for being cowardly and always causing trouble.
Ember was particularly unhappy with her outburst. Ember retorted, "Why are you yelling? My son, of course, I'll take care of him. Why are you taking it out on me? Let me tell you, Katniss is my daughter. You benefit from my relationship with her, so show some respect!"
Hearing this, Jessica was choked up and turned her disdainful gaze away.
No matter what, she could only get money from Katniss because of Ember's relationship.
Enduring, she sat down, panting as she tried to think of a solution.
In a luxury car not far away, Lila and Eudora watched the scene unfold.
Lila nonchalantly looked away and turned to Eudora. "Are you crazy? Bringing me out early in the morning to watch this lousy drama, just two people almost scared to death?"
"Those two are Katniss's relatives." Eudora thought it over. These two couldn't be controlled by her anymore.
If Tristan found out about her and Michael, the consequences would be dire if anything else was exposed.
So Eudora brought Lila.
At that time, Lila was silent for a few seconds, then understood but decided not to get involved.

She raised an eyebrow and looked out the car window at Jessica and Ember.
"Alright, tell Michael that as long as I succeed, he shouldn't forget what he promised me." With that, Lila opened the car door, got out, tidied her hair, and walked toward Jessica and Ember.
In the car, Eudora was stunned, watching Lila leave. What had Michael promised Lila?
She thought back carefully. Lila had shown no interest when Katniss was mentioned.
It wasn't until Eudora said Michael and Isla were innocent that Lila became interested.
So Lila liked Michael, not Tristan!
A woman with rich sexual experience, what else could she be interested in besides sleeping with men?

The two sat on the steps, during rush hour, with people coming and going.
Their behavior and attire already drew attention, and Ember's shocking words made people look even more.
Jessica felt embarrassed but suppressed her temper. "Mr. Forbes has so many people under him. If he sends just two to watch us, we have no way out. What do you want me to do?"
"You may have no way, but I do." Lila walked up to them, arms crossed, looking down at them.
Ember saw her dressed elegantly, with an extraordinary aura, and instinctively pulled out a flattering smile. "Miss, you are..."Lila raised an eyebrow and replied, "Don't worry about who I am. I can help you see Katniss, but you'll need to set aside your pride."
Hearing they could see Katniss, Jessica got interested too. She stood up and dusted off her pants. "We're not important people. What pride do we have to set aside?"
In the afternoon, Tristan called Katniss, wanting to take her out for dinner in the evening.
He might have noticed that Ember's appearance had affected Katniss's mood and wanted to distract her.
Katniss agreed, and the smile on her lips didn't fade all afternoon.
As evening approached, she let Matilda go home first, planning to finish her work and then meet Tristan.
Most people had left the educational institution, and it became very quiet, so she immediately heard the commotion downstairs.
Especially Ember's sharp voice, which was particularly grating.
Katniss turned to look out the window. At the entrance of the educational institution, Ember and Jessica were standing opposite two bodyguards.
Ember was jumping and shouting, "Why can't I see my daughter? Who do you think you are? Do you believe I'll call the police?"
Whatever the bodyguards said, Ember became even more displeased. "Bullying a woman, how dare you? My daughter married your boss, not sold to him. Jessica, call the police!"
"Got it, Mom." Jessica took out her phone to call, watching the bodyguards' expressions.
The two bodyguards looked troubled. If the police were called, they would be in the wrong.

"Who are you calling impure?" Ember raised her voice, ready to argue. "I'm seeing my daughter. How is that impure? I gave her life. What business is it of yours what I want from her?"
Katniss sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. "Mom, please calm down. Let's talk somewhere private."
Ember, sensing a small victory, nodded eagerly. "Yes, let's talk. We have a lot to discuss."
Katniss led them inside, away from the prying eyes of the onlookers. She knew this conversation was going to be difficult, but it was necessary to clear the air and set boundaries.
