Chapter 434 I Think He's Not Good Enough for You

"So eager to know?" Tristan fiddled with the quilt. "Just looking for an excuse to come up?"

He put the quilt down and saw Katniss's eyes wide open. She wouldn't let it go unless he told her.

He simply sat on the edge of the bed, pulled her slender waist closer, and clamped her legs with his knees. "You ask so directly. Aren't you afraid that without an antidote, the answer will disappoint you?"

What could be more disappointing than him being gone?

Those few months, she had already gone through the darkest and most painful times.

"Disappointed about what?" She propped her hands on his shoulders, looking down at him. "If there's no antidote, I'll pick a cemetery for you in advance, choose a funeral home, and even a crematorium."

If it weren't for catching that suppressed emotion deep in Katniss's eyes, Tristan might have laughed out loud.

"Lucas has the antidote. Nicholas and Emory have already sent people to find it, but the drug itself is experimental, so the antidote can't be guaranteed to be 100% effective."

Katniss was straightforward, "As long as it can save your life, that's enough."

Tristan's eyebrows furrowed unconsciously. He glanced down at his legs and then looked up again. "Just life, nothing else to consider?"

Lying in bed like a vegetable, unable to open his eyes, with sensation and hearing, wasn't that almost the same as her so-called 'just life'?

Realizing his thoughts were getting lewd again, Katniss pinched his chin and knocked on his forehead.

"When can the antidote be brought back?"

Tristan replied, "Depends on when they can defeat Bullmastiff."

"What?"

Mentioning Lucas's bad ideas made Tristan unhappy. He didn't want her to worry, so he stood up and started fussing with the quilt, smoothly changing the subject.

"What did you go out for just now? You don't look well."

She was already trying her best to disguise it, but he still saw through it at a glance.

She only said half, "Went to see Ember, nothing good ever comes from seeing her, how could I look well?"

Although Ember kept saying that buying a house would sever their relationship, Katniss knew their desires were like a bottomless pit.

With a villa, they would want a car in the future, and then even better things.

Agreeing once would lead to endless greed.

Moreover, now that she knew she had no relationship with Ember, there was even less reason to indulge them.

In the evening, George also came over, and Tristan was sent to sleep at Emory's place, coming back in the morning to pick up Katniss.

The room was adorned with festive decorations, and the spacious villa was filled with a joyful atmosphere.

Although they lived on the first floor, the bridal chamber was set up on the second floor. She would be picked up by Tristan from the first floor and return to the bridal chamber on the second floor in the evening.

Originally, they didn't plan to be so troublesome, but Sophia insisted on it, saying it was an ancestral rule.

Late at night, with the room fully decorated, Katniss finally felt the reality of getting married.

Endless insomnia swept over her. She lay in bed, playing with Evie's little hand, reminiscing about the past.

There was bitterness and sweetness in her heart.

But nothing could surpass the fear of the unknown future, making her heart shrink into a ball.

Suddenly, the phone on the bedside table rang. She picked it up and opened it.

A strange number, but after glancing at the content, she almost instantly confirmed it was a message from Lucas.

[Katniss, getting married, are you happy?]

She frowned instinctively. [What do you want?]

Lucas: [Just want to see if Katniss is happy. Tristan is like this now, and you still want to marry him?]

[Or do you think tomorrow's wedding is just a gimmick?]

The wedding date had been spread far and wide, how could it be fake?

[But I don't want you to marry him. I think he's not good enough for you.]

Katniss: [If you're here to sow discord and persuade me not to get married, I advise you to give up early. If you're here to get scolded, I can fulfill that.]

Lucas seemed very aggrieved, sending several crying emojis.

Their relationship was quite tense, and she couldn't understand how he had the mood to chat with her.

[Katniss, actually, the antidote on Bullmastiff is fake. The real antidote is with me. As long as you don't marry him, I'll give him the antidote, how about that?]

Just as Katniss was about to turn off her phone, he sent another message.

Katniss's eyes narrowed suddenly. She lifted the quilt, got out of bed quietly, and walked out of the room, dialing Lucas's number.

The call was answered instantly, and Lucas's voice came through. "Katniss, calling me so late at night, aren't you afraid Tristan will be angry?"

"Lucas, cut the crap. What do you really want?" Katniss's forehead veins bulged, her patience with Lucas reaching its limit.

If Lucas were in front of her now, she would want to hit him!

Lucas snorted, "Katniss, you're so fierce. Have you forgotten it was me who stole Travis's stuff for you? How can you treat me like this?"

"Enough!" Katniss shouted, "This is a matter of life and death. I don't want to beat around the bush with you. You helped me, and I will remember that favor. You and Duke are not the same person. I won't hold you accountable for your father's debts, but if you're a good person, just hand over the antidote. If you're not, then don't test my limits here."

Her tone was cold and chilling.

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and Lucas's tone became more normal. "I'm serious. As long as you don't marry him, I'll..."

Katniss hung up the phone and turned back to the room.

People like Lucas were a bit crazy, and any decision could change at any time. He was toying with her.

Just like Ember, who said buying a house would sever ties, but who knew what problems might arise after buying it, leading to endless entanglement.

This wedding, she had to go through with it.

The long moonlight brought a glimmer of light to the night.

Katniss lay in bed, sleepless all night. At around five in the morning, the makeup artist arrived, and she went downstairs to wash up and get ready.

About an hour later, she changed into her wedding dress. Her long hair was styled up, and her exquisite makeup exuded breathtaking beauty.

Evie also wore a little dress, which she and Tristan had chosen together.

Usually, Evie didn't cling to Katniss, but today, for some reason, she just wouldn't leave Katniss's arms.

She yelled at anyone who came close, not allowing anyone to touch her.

Until Tristan arrived, everyone made way for him. He walked in with a bouquet of flowers.

His deep eyes reflected Katniss and Evie sitting on the bed, and his thin lips curved slightly.

Just as he handed the flowers to Katniss, Evie suddenly screamed, stood up on Katniss's leg, and protected Katniss with her hands, looking at Tristan defensively, "No!"
