Chapter 394 Do Me One Last Favor
The joy shattered instantly. Watching them support each other as they left, Katniss's lips pressed tightly together.
The acquisition plan was successfully implemented, but she faced a new problem.
That was Evie, who was far away in Velvet City, and she hadn't seen her for several days.
She wanted to wait here for Tristan to regain his memory, so she had to bring Evie over. But after all, Evie was still young...
Thinking about the long journey, she felt reluctant but still made arrangements to return to Velvet City to bring Evie back.
The first step of the acquisition plan was to have a very detailed understanding of this place. While Ryan was familiarizing himself with the small village, she booked a flight back to Velvet City.
"You don't have a home here. Where will Evie stay if you bring her over?" Nicholas frowned as he watched her pack her luggage. "You don't know how long you'll be staying here. Are you planning to have Evie stay in a hotel with you? Who knows, it might be for decades."
Katniss continued packing, "No, a family in the village just moved out recently. The house is still livable. I've already asked Ryan to negotiate buying it, and we'll live there."
Unexpectedly, she had already made arrangements, which only proved she was determined to stay.
Nicholas had nothing to say. Watching her quickly finish packing and head straight to the airport with her suitcase, he couldn't help but quickly walk towards the small village.
Twenty minutes later, in Maddy's yard, Tristan stood under a tree, holding a wooden stick, watching the gradually falling leaves.
In the deep winter season, the weather in Pearlhaven wasn't very cold, but the wind was strong, blowing down many half-yellow leaves.
Nicholas and Emory stood at the door, looking at his tall figure for a while before entering.
"Katniss... has gone back to Velvet City."
Tristan's body stiffened, and he turned his head very slowly, but it was already the fastest he could manage.
His brows furrowed slightly, and his deep eyes stared at them with confusion and deep reluctance.
"You know you can't bear it, too? Do you know how much we've offended Katniss because of you?" Emory found a small stool and sat down.
He wanted to scold Tristan harshly in person, but when he looked up and saw the once high-spirited man now thin and haggard, he swallowed all his words.
Nicholas sat down beside him, patted his shoulder, and sighed, "We thought that secretly watching Katniss was the most painful ending for you, but we didn't expect Katniss to persist in finding you for so long and finally find you here."
"It's Maddy's fault!" Emory directly shifted the responsibility to Maddy. "We told her many times that we would cover all of Tristan's medical expenses, and she didn't need to worry about anything else. But she posted a missing person notice, and it just so happened that Katniss saw it!"
Maddy thought that since Emory and the others insisted on taking Tristan to a big hospital for treatment, Tristan's family must be very wealthy.
She had ulterior motives and wanted to take advantage of her status as a lifesaver to get some benefits.
"It's too late to say anything now." Nicholas directly asked Tristan, "Katniss went to get Evie. She bought a house here and plans to bring Evie over to stay with you."
After speaking, he lowered his head and said no more.
Both of them were waiting for Tristan to make a decision. Continuing like this would hurt Katniss deeply, and Tristan was also in pain.
After a long silence, Tristan finally spoke slowly, "Find a way to make her leave."
"She won't leave!" Nicholas almost shouted, "Can't you see that you are the most important person to her!"
"Because I can understand it, I want her to leave." Tristan's tone was firm, and his slow speech was undeniable. "Otherwise, watching me day by day, do you think she will feel better than she does now?"
The situation plunged the courtyard into silence.
The door suddenly opened, and Maddy came out. Seeing the three of them standing in the yard, she hesitated and asked cautiously, "Is there anything I can help with?"
"Yes." Tristan's thin lips parted slightly, "Help me one last time."
At two o'clock in the afternoon, the plane landed at Velvet City Airport. Saskia drove to pick her up, and as soon as they met, her eyes turned red.
Saskia rushed over, knocking the suitcase Katniss was holding far away.
"I heard you found him? Did he come back?" Saskia asked, looking behind her.
Before returning, Katniss had only sent Saskia the flight information without much explanation.
So Saskia didn't know the specifics and came to pick her up on time, thinking she was picking up a group of people.
Seeing no one behind Katniss, Saskia let go of her. "Where are they?"
Katniss turned to retrieve her suitcase and then explained, "He didn't come back. He doesn't remember me, and the previous events overstimulated his nerves, putting him in a tense state. Forcing him to come back could worsen his condition..."
She spoke while pulling Saskia outside.
Her calm tone and expression belied the turmoil in her heart.
"I plan to settle in Pearlhaven." After getting in the car, she fastened her seatbelt and told Saskia her decision.
Saskia froze, staring at her, "Settle in Pearlhaven? Spend your life with him? What if he never remembers you?"
"The three months of searching exhausted all my patience. I thought he wouldn't come back, but seeing him alive became my obsession. I even thought that as long as he was alive, it didn't matter where he was, even if he wasn't with me."
For three months, Katniss hadn't confided in anyone, but now she poured everything out to Saskia.
"But knowing he's alive and has lost his memory, I can't just be content with him being alive. I just want him back by my side, and I want Evie to grow up with him."
Saskia took two tissues, wiped her tears, and handed two to Katniss, "I support you! If that bastard Nicholas bullies you in Pearlhaven, just let me know."
Evie, who hadn't seen Katniss for several days, had been driving Sophia crazy, refusing to stay in her room.
Fortunately, Natalia was there to help, and the two of them took turns entertaining her, barely managing.
Hearing the door open, Evie immediately looked towards it.
Seeing Katniss's familiar figure, her little face lit up with a smile.
But the next second, her smile fell, and she closed her eyes, crying loudly.
Tears fell like beans.
Katniss dropped her suitcase, didn't even bother to change her shoes, and quickly ran over to pick her up.
Evie clung tightly to her neck, her cries echoing in her ears.
"Evie, don't cry. Mommy won't leave again." Sophia quickly wiped her tears and kept comforting her.
Katniss patted Evie's back and said to Sophia, "I plan to go to Pearlhaven and take Evie with me."
