Chapter 347 Pregnant Again?
Katniss's heart skipped a beat as she stared at Eudora, who had appeared out of nowhere.
"What are you doing here?"
Eudora had been thinking about how to talk to Katniss when she returned, and how to persuade her if Katniss disagreed.
Her mind was a mess, and she didn't quite catch what Katniss said when she entered.
"I came to see Aaron, but he went upstairs with the baby. I also have something to discuss with you, so I waited for you to come back."
Tristan walked to Katniss's side, and the sight of them standing together was particularly jarring to Eudora.
"Next time, please give us a heads-up before you come over, or I'll call the police."
His gaze was filled with undisguised disdain for Eudora.
After speaking, he looked at Katniss, signaling with his eyes for her to go upstairs first.
Sophia also went upstairs with the clothes she bought for Evie.
"What do you want to talk about?" Katniss asked, noticing the broken phone on the table. "Did you have a fight with Aaron?"
"No, but he's been in a bad mood, always trying to get rid of me. I was going to call you to ask when you'd be back so we could meet, but he couldn't wait and smashed my phone before going upstairs."
Eudora sat down again, unable to hide her dissatisfaction. "I agreed to let Aaron stay with you because he was young and rebellious, and it was hard to educate him. But now he's getting more and more out of hand. And what do you take him for? Letting him babysit at home!"
"So what?" Katniss had no patience to argue with her, guessing that Aaron smashing the phone was largely because Evie was already fussing, and Eudora kept nagging.
"I'm planning to take Aaron home. You won't have to worry about his college expenses anymore, and I'll pay off all the money he's spent in the past two years in one go." Eudora lifted her chin, very proud.
When it came to Aaron, she indeed had the pride and leverage to negotiate.
After all, legally, she was Aaron's only sister.
Katniss was silent for a moment before saying, "As long as Aaron agrees, I have no objections."
"It's because he doesn't agree that I need to talk to you." Eudora frowned. "We have different perspectives on this matter, so you have your reasons, and I have mine. You can't say I'm wrong. You've instilled in him the idea that I'm not a good person, which is why he doesn't want to come with me..."
The more she spoke, the more exaggerated she became.
Katniss had to interrupt her, "I've never told him anything about what happened between us, but he has eyes and watches the news. He pays attention to any news related to you. He has his own judgment of right and wrong, so his dislike for you has nothing to do with me."
To Eudora, everything Katniss said was just an excuse.
She didn't want to hear Katniss's explanations either. "In three days, I'll come to take Aaron away. If..."
"No need for three days. I'll tell you now, I'm not going with you." Aaron came downstairs, his anger somewhat dissipated but still very upset. "I'm doing well here. Katniss will cover my tuition and all expenses. I'll repay her in the future. I don't need you to pay. Now, please leave and don't come looking for me again."
Aaron pointed towards the door, "Are you leaving on your own, or should I escort you out?"
That "escort" was not meant in a polite way.
Eudora stared at him, and after a long while, she spat out a sentence through gritted teeth, "If you don't leave, then I'll take legal action. I'll sue Katniss for destroying our sibling relationship."
"You won't win." Katniss wasn't worried at all, finding it laughable that Eudora would use this to threaten her own brother. "I'm not illegally detaining or abusing him, and he's here voluntarily."
"If I don't win, I'll appeal and sue again. If you have the patience, then let's keep at it. I don't believe you can keep this up forever." Eudora was ready for a long battle.
She was certain that Katniss wouldn't be willing to get entangled for too long over someone unrelated like Aaron.
She grabbed her bag from the sofa and turned to leave.
Her parting words still echoed in the living room.
As the villa door closed, Aaron angrily plopped down on the sofa, his lips tightly pressed together.
"I'm going upstairs to check on Evie." Katniss was worried about Evie but didn't forget to say to Aaron, "Don't worry about it. If she loses twice, no lawyer will take her case again."
"OK." Aaron responded, his hands interlaced and pressed against his forehead.
He had already caused Katniss a lot of trouble, most of which stemmed from Eudora.
Evie had been comforted by Aaron for a long time before she stopped crying. She had never cried so hard before, so her eyes were still red.
Not to mention that Tristan, who doted on his daughter, felt heartbroken, and Katniss was also deeply distressed.
Especially when Evie saw them, she pouted in grievance, waving her little hands and making incomprehensible sounds.
"What did she come for?" Tristan's face was grim, unable to suppress his dislike for Eudora.
Katniss held Evie's hand and kissed it, "To talk about Aaron. She wants to take him away."
Every time the siblings met, it was always heated, so one could imagine how scared Evie was at the time.
Tristan gently touched Evie's cheek, his sharp features softening considerably.
With her parents by her side, Evie quickly became happy again. Soon, Sophia came with the new clothes she bought and tried them on her, and she was having a great time.
Aaron went into his room and didn't come out again.
In the afternoon, after lunch, something suddenly came up at White Corporation.
Katniss had to make a trip to the company. Benjamin was unaware of her visit to White Corporation.
When an emergency occurred, the company notified Benjamin first and then her.
So they both arrived at the company almost simultaneously and met in the elevator.
"Where did you go?" Benjamin blocked the elevator door to let her in.
She entered the elevator and explained, "I went to the hospital this morning. I finished all the work yesterday, didn't expect an emergency."
Seeing her eager to explain, Benjamin smiled, "I'm not blaming you, just asking. Why did you go to the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?"
Then, as if something occurred to him, he quickly asked, "Are you pregnant again?"
If she were pregnant, she wouldn't be able to work for several months. Where would he find someone like her?
"No," Katniss hurriedly denied, "I took Tristan for a follow-up."
Hearing this, Benjamin breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good. If you plan to get pregnant, please let me know in advance so I can be prepared."
"No plans in the short term," Katniss said with a troubled expression, "I had severe morning sickness when I was pregnant with Evie, and I'm a bit scared."
But she didn't deny the possibility of having another child.
Morning sickness? Benjamin suddenly recalled the scene in the lounge of the entertainment club where Hazel was vomiting into a trash can.
He frowned, pursed his lips, and said nothing more.
The elevator doors opened, and several executives were already waiting outside. They quickly got into work mode and went to the meeting.
Katniss didn't expect the company's emergency to be related to her.
Because of the acquisition of Warren's entertainment club yesterday, many rumors suddenly spread outside, saying she secured the deal through connections.
As for what kind of connections, it was self-explanatory.
Otherwise, how could a woman like her become the general manager of White Corporation, rising from an assistant to a general manager?
From Synergy Global Corporation to White Corporation, from Tristan's side to Benjamin's side...
With such rumors, some already signed partners proposed to terminate their contracts.
And some who hadn't signed yet either refused to sign or specifically requested Katniss to negotiate with them.
The reason for wanting Katniss to negotiate was obvious—they intended to take advantage of her.
The PR department couldn't handle this because it hadn't reached the media; it was spread privately among people.
"Arrange a dinner meeting with those who want to terminate their contracts and those who want to negotiate with me. I'll handle it."
Katniss leaned back in her chair, playing with a pen, her gaze cold.
It turned out that the drink Eudora spilled on her foot last night had this purpose.
She had thought it was just simple jealousy, trying to annoy her.
Everyone looked at Benjamin, waiting for his decision.
Samuel was the first to speak, "Mr. White, we've all seen Ms. Grey's capabilities, but the business world is full of people with ulterior motives. Not everyone knows Ms. Grey as we do. She's been with you for so long; you should know she's not that kind of person."
Benjamin's eyes flickered. He looked at Samuel for a while and then suddenly smiled, "Do you think I don't trust her? I was just thinking that it's not appropriate for me to step in and solve this for Ms. Grey. Letting her handle it alone feels a bit unfair."
"Mr. White, there's no need to feel unfair. Just double the year-end bonus," Katniss said with a light smile, not taking this urgent situation seriously.
She jokingly eased Benjamin's concern. As soon as the meeting ended, she saw Ryan as she walked out of the conference room.
Ryan held a document and quickly approached, "Ms. Grey, Mr. White, Mr. Bennett, here is a list of those spreading the rumors. Do you want to deal with it now or wait until the matter is resolved?"
"Wait until the matter is resolved. No rush," Katniss glanced at the list. As expected, it was the people interested in acquiring Warren's club.
Ryan added, "The next document contains the names of those who want to terminate their contracts, those who haven't signed yet, and those who specifically requested to meet with Ms. Grey for negotiations, along with their contact information."
"Contact them now. Let's arrange it for tonight. Book a private room and make sure they come. If they can't come, invite them personally."
Katniss didn't drag her feet on such matters. After giving her instructions, Ryan immediately went to implement them.
Back in her office, she called Tristan to tell him she wouldn't be home for dinner tonight.
She also praised Ryan, "Tristan, Ryan is truly a gem."
On the other end, Tristan's grip on the phone tightened, "What?"
"I said, Ryan is truly a gem." Katniss didn't realize there was anything wrong with saying she wouldn't be home for dinner and then praising Ryan without reservation.
Nor did she notice that Tristan was already very jealous.
And she continued, "He's so efficient and always accurately guesses my thoughts. He gets everything done without me having to instruct him!"
