Chapter 275 I Want to Know the Truth
Eudora was losing her mind trying to find Tristan when Saskia suddenly appeared. Eudora really didn't want to deal with her right now.
"Chill out, you don't need to rush. Tristan's fine," Saskia said, stopping Eudora in her tracks.
"You know where he is?" Eudora asked, shutting the car door she had just opened.
Saskia, with one hand casually in her pocket, nodded. "Wanna know where he is? Then spill the beans about what really went down between him and Katniss."
They were standing outside Eudora's apartment, and in the freezing weather, it looked pretty weird. People passing by couldn't help but stare.
Eudora frowned, thought for a second, and said, "Let's go inside. It's a long story."
Eudora led the way, and as Saskia followed, she noticed Jessica lurking nearby.
Saskia recognized Jessica; they'd met a couple of times, so she remembered her well.
What was Jessica doing here?
Ignoring Jessica for now, Saskia followed Eudora inside. Once inside, she could still see Jessica peeking through the living room window.
Eudora got straight to the point, "Katniss tricked Tristan. His grandma brought her in to have his kid. You know Tristan's kid is crucial for him to inherit the Forbes family fortune from Travis."
Before Eudora could finish, Saskia impatiently waved her hand. "I don't want the surface-level crap. I want the real story."
Saskia had seen how much Katniss loved Tristan. Talking about contracts and having kids sounded ridiculous.
Her attitude made Eudora frown. "That's all I know. Grandma has a contract with Katniss. If there's more to it, you should ask Grandma."
Hearing this, Saskia got up and started to leave.
"Wait, you haven't told me where Tristan is!" Eudora chased after her.
But Saskia walked quickly, and Eudora only caught up with her in the yard.
Saskia said, "Tristan's still in Velvet City. You gave me surface-level nonsense, so that's all I can give you."
As Eudora grabbed her arm, Saskia yanked it back, almost making Eudora lose her balance.
This movement made Saskia notice the wound on Eudora's chin.
Before Saskia could react, Jessica rushed out, grabbed Eudora's hair, and pinned her to the ground. "You bitch, hiding from me? Did you mess up Katniss and Tristan's wedding? So the info I gave you was useful. Pay up!"
Jessica sat on Eudora, almost crushing her.
Eudora yelled, "Jessica, you crazy? You think I won't call the cops?"Jessica yelled, "Go ahead! Call the cops! I'll spill all your dirty secrets about Katniss. Let's see how long you can keep up your good girl act!"
Jessica had seen through Eudora's fake persona around Katniss and Tristan. She knew Eudora was a master manipulator.
Eudora, knowing Jessica had the upper hand, felt cornered.
Meanwhile, Saskia stood by, coldly watching the scene unfold. She quickly pulled out her phone and started recording.
Eudora, unable to fend off Jessica's attack, reluctantly agreed to pay her off.
But the trust between them was shattered. With her arm twisted, Eudora went back to the apartment to transfer the money via her phone.
Jessica didn't leave until she saw the $70,000 hit her account.
Suddenly, Eudora remembered something and ran out again, but Saskia was already gone.
Saskia, though not knowing every detail, had pieced together the reason for Katniss and Tristan's fallout.
The $140 million agreement Katniss signed was the catalyst.
And the mastermind behind making Katniss sign that agreement was none other than Adelaide.
Saskia didn't care about Adelaide's motives. She sent the video of Eudora getting beaten to Nicholas.
Nicholas saw the video and immediately wanted to show it to Tristan. But Tristan's sharp gaze stopped him as soon as he reached for the carpet.
He forwarded the video to Tristan's phone instead. "It's about Katniss. You should check it out."
Tristan, more irritable than ever, didn't even glance at his phone.
He was still waiting, waiting for an explanation from Katniss.
But she hadn't said a word, not even a single letter.
Was she too lazy to lie to him?
If she would just lie, he would believe her.
In the end, what made Tristan leave was the news of Adelaide being hospitalized.
Urged by Nicholas, he rushed out without even changing his clothes.
Meanwhile, Katniss couldn't hold on any longer. She was vomiting repeatedly and couldn't even get up in the last few days.
Sophia decided to take her to the hospital. Aaron carried Katniss downstairs and into the car, taking care of her the whole way.
After checking her condition, the doctor prepared to give Katniss a comprehensive examination, starting with her stomach.
"She's married. Could she be pregnant?" Sophia lied.
The doctor said, "Why didn't you mention that earlier? When was her last period?"
Sophia shook her head, and seeing this, the doctor arranged for an ultrasound first.
The results came back quickly: Katniss was seven weeks pregnant and malnourished. The doctor set up a plan for her to receive nutritional IVs.Being pregnant at this time was definitely a game-changer.
When Katniss woke up and heard the news, she couldn't believe it. She had just had her period two weeks ago.
"Was your last period lighter and shorter than usual?" the doctor asked.
Katniss nodded. "Yeah, it was."
"That was early pregnancy bleeding, not a period. You're young and healthy, and the fetus is developing well, but you're malnourished. If this continues, it will affect the baby. You need more nutritional IVs," the doctor explained patiently before leaving.
Sophia sat by her bedside, feeling a pang of sadness as she looked at Katniss's pale face.
After a long while, she couldn't help but ask, "Katniss, are you going to keep this baby?"
Keeping it would tie Katniss even more to the Forbes family, and once word got out that she was pregnant, danger and trouble would surely follow.
But not keeping it broke Katniss's heart.
This was Tristan's child, a descendant of the Forbes family, but also her child.
A child she had desperately wanted, one with her own blood.
"The doctor said the best time for an abortion is within fifty days, which won't harm your body. You have at most two days to decide. Whatever you choose, I'll support you," Sophia said, patting Katniss's arm and tucking her in.
The next two days would be torturous.
No one knew Katniss was hospitalized, so no one came to visit.
She could quietly think about whether to keep the baby.
Meanwhile, in a room downstairs, Adelaide was in the hospital for a recurring health issue, but a few days of rest would have her on the mend.
Seeing Tristan enter the room looking nothing like his usual self, Adelaide felt heartbroken. She also knew that Katniss couldn't be doing well either.
Their feelings for each other were beyond her imagination!
Adelaide called out, "Tristan!" Before she could finish feeling guilty, the tall Tristan finally couldn't hold on any longer.
In five days, he had only drunk some water and hadn't eaten a bite.
Nicholas quickly caught him, Royce rushed to call the doctor, and Adelaide, in a panic, pulled out her IV and shakily walked towards Tristan.
Tristan was taken to the examination room. The doctor said it was a miracle he could walk to the hospital after five days without sleep or food.
He was given a nutritional IV and told to rest well for the next few days, or not even God could save him from this self-destructive behavior.
Nicholas and a nurse pushed Tristan back to his room, while Adelaide struggled with guilt and pain."Mrs. Forbes, he can't keep going like this," Royce said cautiously. "Didn't you say this was just the beginning of your plan? The act has been convincing enough. It's time to move to the next step."
Adelaide's eyes gradually took on a serious look. After a long pause, she took a deep breath and said, "I hope they'll understand my intentions and the struggles I've faced."
As night fell, Sophia insisted on staying with Matilda to take care of Katniss.
They had all been through so much in the past few days. Katniss was already exhausted, but now, with the baby on the way, she couldn't get any sleep.
She looked at the moonlight outside the window, countless thoughts running through her mind.
The faint light from the hallway filtered through the door and windows, casting a dim glow in the room. Her suddenly illuminated phone was particularly glaring. Noticing a long text message on her phone, she pressed her lips together, her eyes drifting into the distance.
The message was lengthy and shocking. Despite her resolve to stay strong, she found herself softening.
"Katniss, why aren't you asleep?" Matilda asked, noticing the light from the phone as she got out of bed to check on her.
Katniss put down her phone, turned to lie flat, and asked Matilda, "Who knows about my pregnancy?"
"No one knows!" Matilda said immediately. "Besides me and Mom, only Aaron knows. I told Aaron not to tell anyone. I paid the doctor to keep it confidential and used my name for your treatment."
Given the complexities of Katniss and Tristan's relationship, if news of her pregnancy were to leak, it could lead to serious complications.
For instance, there were concerns about whether the Forbes family would permit Katniss to have an abortion or if they would try to take custody of the baby once they learned of its existence.
Considering these issues, Matilda had taken great care to keep it a secret.
"Katniss, what's wrong?" Matilda hurriedly put on her shoes and came over. "Did something happen?"
"It's nothing; don't worry," Katniss quickly reassured her. "I was just thinking of asking you to keep it a secret. Nothing else."
Hearing this, Matilda sighed in relief and went back to bed.
Katniss's identity hadn't drawn much attention yet, and Matilda was using a fake name, so the news of her pregnancy… Adelaide was definitely unaware.
So the message was sent without knowing Katniss was pregnant, focusing on her, not the baby.
Katniss lay sleepless through the night, and as dawn broke, Sophia got up to wash. Katniss took out her phone and replied with a brief message.
As a result, the emotions that had been building up inside her began to dissipate significantly.
