Chapter 423 He's Keeping Us in Suspense

"I think the doctor is overreacting," Katniss thought for a long time before answering seriously, "There's nothing at home that requires your attention."

Taking care of Tristan, an idle person, was still manageable.

Tristan's eyes were particularly serious. He pursed his thin lips and raised his hand to touch her head. "My health isn't great. Has your brain also deteriorated?"

Katniss frowned and slapped his hand away. "Didn't the doctor allow you to move around? It's not like you can't even go downstairs."

She thought, if necessary, she could rearrange the room on the first floor for Tristan to avoid going up and down the stairs.

A light cough came from the slightly ajar door, and the door was pushed open.

The doctor poked his head in, looking at the two people closely pressed together, and said seriously, "Mr. Forbes, let's draw some blood before you are discharged."

"Okay," Tristan responded.

The doctor's gaze fell on Katniss's face, hesitated for a few seconds, and quickly said, "Mr. Forbes needs to rest more at home and should avoid physical activities."

"Okay, I'll make sure he doesn't do any morning or night runs, just like in the hospital," Katniss tried to break free from Tristan's embrace.

But Tristan's strength was great, holding her tightly in his arms.

Until the doctor said, "I mean nighttime bed activities."

After saying that, the doctor closed the door and left.

Katniss's struggling stopped, and her soft body instantly stiffened.

Tristan could feel it.

Her ears turned red with embarrassment, and she turned her face towards Tristan's chest, not speaking or looking up.

"Do you need to see a neurologist?" Tristan teased from above.

Katniss pinched his waist hard. "So you went out just now to ask the doctor about this?"

Tristan looked particularly innocent. "I didn't specifically ask, but the doctor specifically mentioned it."

Given his frequent attempts to go out and his reluctance to leave Katniss, the doctor felt it necessary to remind them.

"So, you need to seriously consider whether it's necessary to marry you," Tristan thought. Maybe he really couldn't give Katniss anything in the short term except for a ceremony.

"Did I marry you just for sex?" Katniss said in a bad tone, "If all I think about is sex, I can find someone else!"

Tristan's arm around her waist tightened suddenly, almost pulling her into his body.

He couldn't bear it, not for a moment.

So going back home was a kind of torture for him.

Katniss's ears turned red, and she pulled away from his embrace. "Let Emory take you home tonight. I'll go back and prepare first."

After thinking it over, Tristan's condition was not suitable for living upstairs, as it was inconvenient for him to move around.

"The doctor said that climbing stairs would help my recovery," Tristan saw through her thoughts. "But it's fine if Emory takes me home tonight. You go ahead and get busy."

"Then I'll go back first." Katniss left the hospital and bought a large bouquet of flowers symbolizing new hope on her way home.

Seeing her come back with flowers, Sophia was very surprised. "Why did you buy flowers out of the blue?"

While arranging the flowers in a vase, she said, "Mom, Tristan is being discharged tonight. His illness can be treated slowly at home."

Sophia was stunned. Then her face lit up with joy. "That's great. Matilda was planning to take me to the hospital to see him tomorrow, but now he can come home."

Katniss added, "I plan to marry Tristan."

"It's about time. How long until he recovers? Are you planning to wait until he's fully recovered to have the wedding, or do it now? Can his body handle it?" Sophia didn't know much about Tristan's condition.

She only knew that Tristan had lost his memory and was injured in a plane crash.

Katniss didn't tell her the full story, only saying, "We'll do it now. He might not fully recover."

Sophia shuddered, almost losing her grip on Evie.

She hurriedly steadied Evie and then sat down on the sofa, asking Katniss, "What's really going on with him? Tell me the truth!"

"He was injected with experimental drugs by Duke," Katniss briefly explained the situation, not daring to say what the drugs might cause, only that the effects were unknown.

"So, his recovery is still uncertain?" Sophia looked at Katniss in disbelief. "And you still want to marry him?"

Realizing she had said the wrong thing, she quickly explained, "Katniss, I didn't mean it that way. I just think... What will you do? You care so much. What if he... Can you handle it? I'm afraid you love him too deeply!"

"I didn't just start loving him deeply now; I've loved him deeply for a long time."

Katniss sat down beside her and patted her arm. "Don't worry, Evie is my last bit of sanity."

Sophia's throat choked up, unable to say anything to persuade or blame her.

"When I married him, I had just graduated from college, and you had just fallen ill. His appearance was like a fleeting moment of brilliance to me, seemingly out of reach, but he really saved me and you. Later, when I joined Synergy Global Corporation, I never imagined that my boss was the man I had been married to for three years. He helped me again and again, allowing you to continue receiving treatment."

Talking about the past, Katniss felt a myriad of emotions.

She had never felt more than at this moment that memories were more beautiful than the future.

"I've been a burden to you," Sophia cried. "If I hadn't fallen ill, you wouldn't have been entangled with him. You would have married an ordinary man, and although you wouldn't be as wealthy as you are now, you would have lived a simple life and surely been happy without so many troubles."

Katniss couldn't bear to imagine a life without Tristan.

"I'll help you with the wedding as much as I can," Sophia said with a sob, "And you should invite Rupert and the others too."

She knew Katniss didn't plan to have a grand wedding, but family and friends should be invited.

Although Rupert had an annoying Ember, Rupert himself was still good.

"I'll call Rupert," Katniss agreed, her face darkening at the thought of Ember. "I'll go pack up."

Tristan was receiving an IV when Emory rushed into the hospital room.

"We've found Ivy's whereabouts!" he said hurriedly. "Nelson told me. Although Ivy and Lucas only show up occasionally, we can confirm they're in the country!"

The exact location was still uncertain, but the police didn't want to make a big search to avoid alerting them and preferred to observe the mother and son secretly.

Tristan and his team, however, had no such concerns. They could search thoroughly and definitely find Lucas.

Tristan said in a deep voice, "He's showing up to get our attention. Even if we find him, he won't say anything. If he wants to say something, he'll come to us."

So, what exactly did Lucas want? Why deliberately attract their attention and then keep them in suspense?
