Chapter 391 I Only Believe in Her

The woman's skin had the unique color of a fisherman's, looking quite rough, making her appear much older than her actual age.

But Katniss recognized her at a glance; she was Maddy Nguyen, the woman who had posted the video searching for her family.

Maddy asked warily, "Who are you?"

"We are his family."

Katniss gave her a kind smile, "Can you take us to see him? To show my gratitude, I will give you two hundred thousand dollars in cash."

Two hundred thousand dollars was not a small amount for the fishermen here, and the people around immediately started talking.

However, Maddy's expression didn't change much, "I can take you to see him, but whether he will go with you, I don't know."

When Maddy stood up, Katniss noticed she was missing her left arm.

Katniss felt very sorry for Maddy, thinking that when the medical team arrived, they could give Maddy a thorough check-up and help her get a prosthetic limb.

They followed Maddy and soon arrived at a small courtyard.

The yard was filled with various woven baskets, holding all kinds of fish and shrimp. The sea breeze blew in, carrying a salty scent.

But none of it compared to the familiar figure in the small courtyard.

Due to his slow leg movements, his posture looked extremely awkward, making his figure far less imposing than before. But in Katniss's eyes, he was still the only light.

She took a deep breath, trying several times to suppress the emotions surging in her heart, but she couldn't control them.

Finally, she rushed to Tristan, "Why did you suddenly leave the hospital?"

He, just like yesterday, ignored her and continued to do something slowly and clumsily.

Katniss stood there for a long time before she realized he was sorting the dried fish and shrimp.

This incredibly simple task was now extremely difficult for him.

Maybe it took him five minutes to place one fish properly, but he was very serious about it.

Just like when he used to sit in front of the computer, scrutinizing documents.

But his hands, which once rivaled those of a pianist, were now covered in small scratches.

Those scratches seemed to fall on her heart, making it incredibly painful for her to breathe.

She slowly squatted down, looking up at him, "Tristan, I know you've forgotten the past. But it's okay, I will help you remember bit by bit. Let's go home now, okay?"

Unfortunately, no matter how sincerely she spoke, his face showed no expression, let alone any reaction.

How could this be?

Seeing this, Maddy walked over and patted Tristan, saying, "She's talking to you, at least respond."

"I don't know her." Tristan's voice was somewhat hoarse, unfamiliar.

When he said this, he looked up and met Maddy's eyes, clearly trusting Maddy a lot.

He only trusted Maddy! To the point where he wouldn't even answer Katniss's questions directly.

In an instant, Katniss's emotions became intense, and she instinctively wanted to step forward, but Maddy stopped her.

"Don't get too excited, or you'll scare him, and he won't even speak."

Maddy's voice gave Katniss, who seemed to be drowning, a glimmer of hope. She said urgently, "I am his wife, I am his family. Please believe me, help me persuade him to go home with me!"

Maddy repeated what she had just said, and Tristan, who had been unresponsive, put down what he was doing and slowly turned to look at Katniss.

Feeling his gaze, she held her breath, afraid that her erratic breathing would affect his judgment.

Tristan only glanced at Katniss before looking at Maddy, "I only know you, and I only trust you."

His words were like a steel knife stabbing into Katniss's heart.

She never thought there would come a day when she would need someone to relay her words to Tristan.

Nor did she expect that the person who once had eyes and heart only for her would say in front of her that he only trusted another woman.

The pain that pierced her to the bone made it incredibly difficult for her to breathe.

Katniss suppressed the overwhelming pain in her heart, stood up, and signaled Maddy to talk to her on the side.

"Ms. Nguyen, I am very grateful that you saved him, took him to the hospital, and posted his video online."

She bowed to Maddy, "Now that I've found him, I want to take him home. Thank you very much for taking care of him during this time."

Katniss was genuinely grateful to Maddy.

But she never expected Maddy to flatly refuse her reasonable request, "Stop, I can't let you take him! Do you know how much money I spent to save him? The medical bills alone were several thousand dollars!"

"Don't worry, I am willing to pay double for all the expenses you incurred while taking care of him."

For Katniss, any problem that could be solved with money was not a problem.

"That won't do." Maddy still shook her head, her expression very firm, "You can see my situation now, right?"

She shook her shoulder, missing an arm, "With one arm missing, no one wants to introduce me to a partner. Now I'm over thirty and still not married. I saved him, and he only recognizes me, so marrying me would be repaying a favor!"

Her words were so matter-of-fact that Katniss almost cursed.

But thinking about how Tristan's life was saved by her, Katniss held back.

She took a deep breath and said softly, "I know you spent a lot to save him, and your life is not easy. I am willing to give you money to change your current situation. But you can't marry him; he is already married." Katniss raised her chin slightly, "I am his wife, and we have a daughter."

"So what? He has forgotten the past. Whether it's you as his wife or a daughter, it doesn't matter to him, and I don't care."

"You may not care, but the law does!"

Katniss's voice suddenly rose, startling Maddy and making Tristan look over from a distance.

She took deep breaths to calm her emotions and lowered her voice, "His real identity is that he is already married. If he marries you now, it would be bigamy. Besides, you can't marry him; you don't have his identity documents. If you have a child, will it be like him, without identification?"

"It doesn't matter. In our small place, having a wedding banquet means being married. If we have a child, it can be registered under my name."

Katniss had experienced what it meant to be impervious to reason.

She began to consider whether to have Ryan arrange for people to come and take Tristan away.

A small fishing village was not something she was afraid of.

But... Tristan only trusted Maddy. Forcibly taking him away might be bad for his health.

After much thought, she walked back to Tristan, "I know you've forgotten, but it's okay, I can help you remember bit by bit. Since I'm a stranger to you, let's introduce ourselves."

"My name is Katniss Grey, and I am the CEO of Zenith Group. My husband's name is Tristan Forbes."

"He treats me very well, and we have a lovely daughter named Evie. Evie can crawl now and occasionally makes sounds like 'mommy'."

"Evie has a father who loves her very much, and I hope she can call out 'daddy' under her father's care..."

As she spoke, her tears fell.

Despite her tears falling like rain and her heart feeling like it was being pierced by thousands of arrows, Tristan's face remained expressionless, silently focusing on sorting the fish and shrimp.

She raised her hand to cover her face, feeling a deep sense of despair.

It was this action that made her miss the very sorrowful look in Tristan's eyes as he lowered his head.
