Chapter 359 The First Taste of Blood
"That person, I know him. He was the assistant to the former CEO of Synergy Global Corporation, named Ryan, and now he's with Katniss." Someone said fluently in a foreign language. "I guess the person chatting with that woman is the former CEO of Synergy Global Corporation."
"The boss said their relationship is very good and they still keep in touch, so it must be him." Another person responded. "When she came in just now, I was shocked. This woman has such a strong business aura, but in the blink of an eye, she turned into a little girl in love because of a video."
The two people chatted intermittently, taking a few photos to document the scene and sending them back to an unknown island to report.
Eudora took the elevator to the third floor, walked out briskly, and saw two men standing by the railing. She hesitated for a few seconds before walking over. "Are you looking for me?"
The two foreign men put away their phones and turned to smile at Eudora.
The bearded man was the first to extend his hand and introduce himself, "Hello, call me Mike Tackett."
The other man, strong and muscular, followed with his introduction, "I'm Paul Caudill."
Eudora looked at them warily, neither shaking hands nor speaking.
"We are from Sam's biological father," Mike retracted his hand. "My boss sent us to investigate some matters and would like Miss Savoy to cooperate with us."
Upon hearing it was Sam's biological father, Eudora breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought Michael had sent her two foreign clients.
"Hello, I'm Eudora. Why don't you go to Mrs. Forbes?" She asked curiously.
Mike smiled slightly and said, "My boss said to find you, naturally, there is a reason for that, and the matter must be kept confidential."
Eudora didn't know much about Sam's biological father, only that he wasn't from the country and wasn't a good person, being wanted by multiple countries.
"Whatever it is, just tell me. I'll do my best, but I can't guarantee success."
Mike shrugged with a smile, "My boss's lab is currently working on a batch of newly developed drugs and wants to find a guinea pig for experiments. He has his eyes on..."
He raised his hand and pointed downstairs at Katniss, "That woman."
"What?" Eudora was shocked. "Are you kidding? Isn't he afraid of trouble?"
If he wanted a guinea pig, wouldn't it be better to find a random beggar?
Choosing Katniss, who was at least a well-known figure in the domestic business world, would be difficult to cover up if she went missing or something happened to her.
"My boss enjoys provoking those who want to catch him, watching them scramble and lie to cover up their incompetence."
Paul's smile revealed a set of dazzling white teeth, as if human lives were as insignificant as ants to them, even someone as formidable as Katniss. Eudora was extremely nervous, experiencing the taste of blood for the first time. She swallowed hard.
No industry was clean. Sometimes, to give the public an explanation, the outcomes of certain events announced to the public were fabricated to avoid unnecessary panic.
And Sam's biological father was the mastermind capable of causing widespread panic.
"Miss Savoy, what are you afraid of?" Paul saw her trembling hand at her side and laughed heartily. "You are my boss's person; he won't do anything to you."
Eudora forced a smile, "I'm... not afraid. So what does he want me to do?"
"My boss wants to know everything about Katniss and Tristan. You grew up in the Forbes Mansion, so you must know more details. Please tell us."
Mike made a gesture of invitation, "We've already booked the room next door. Please."
Going to a hotel room with two strange men, especially those who kill without blinking, made Eudora very uneasy.
But she had no choice. She forced herself to stay calm and walked in, sitting in a chair under their watchful eyes.
They exuded an aura of violence, not sleaziness, and sat across from her, prompting her to get straight to the point.
"The signal is bad, I have to go," Katniss used a cliché excuse to end the video call and headed to the restroom.
She had just seen Valentin and Aubrey go over together and planned to greet them.
Ryan quickly followed, maintaining a safe distance to guard her at the corner.
Valentin and Aubrey came out of the restroom, washed their hands, and walked out together without speaking.
Suddenly, they saw Katniss standing against the wall at the corner. She was wearing an off-shoulder dress above the knee, with a half-up bun and the rest of her hair falling just below her shoulders in soft waves.
She exuded a calm and wise demeanor.
Seeing them, she smiled slightly and nodded, "Valentin, Aubrey, I am Katniss Grey, General Manager of White Corporation."
"Miss Grey," Valentin smiled and shook her hand politely.
He was a gentleman, and his demeanor was not affected by Travis.
Aubrey also smiled and exchanged pleasantries, though his smile was somewhat bitter.
"Both of you, it's well known that politics and business should not mix. Don't you think it's inappropriate to attend Travis's banquet so openly?"
Katniss didn't mince words, knowing Ryan might not be able to stop someone from coming over soon.
"Miss Grey, there's no need to say so much. We have our difficulties, and it's not appropriate to discuss them with you here," Valentin hinted at wanting to leave.
Aubrey followed closely behind.
"If you trust me, maybe I can help you." Katniss didn't stop them from leaving, but added a sentence as they brushed past her.
The two men stopped in their tracks and turned to look at her.
Katniss nodded and said, "Maybe you fear Travis, but I don't. I can help you eliminate his threat to you. Of course, this has nothing to do with the project in the neighboring city. You can simply understand it as me being at odds with him. Whatever he wants to do, I will oppose."
To persuade these two, she had to show her sincerity.
Her words were straightforward enough that Aubrey and Valentin had no room to maneuver.
"You don't have to give me an answer right away. Here's my business card. Contact me when you've made up your mind."
She handed over a business card and nodded, "I'll take my leave now."
After saying that, she turned and left, giving Ryan a signal, who was guarding the end of the corridor.
Ryan quickly left the spot and found another opportunity to follow her secretly once she came out.
The banquet ended around eleven, but Katniss left around nine.
On the way back, Benjamin's expression didn't look good because Travis's intimidation tactics had clearly worked.
Many clients who had been wooed by White Corporation and were planning to cooperate only exchanged brief pleasantries with him.
It was foreseeable that some projects would be lost.
"The priority is to find out how Travis managed to win over Valentin and Aubrey," Katniss reassured Benjamin. "It's not over until it's over. Don't worry, just yet."
Benjamin pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, leaning back in his seat. "Without you all, I wouldn't have been able to hold on. The success of White Corporation directly affects whether I can take over the White family."
And whether he could successfully marry into the Adams family.
Currently, there was Hazel from the Adams family, who must not be exposed.
White Corporation was being suppressed by Travis.
He was very troubled.
"Mr. White, every successful person has their struggles," Katniss sighed. "Even if you take over the White family, there will be other issues to deal with."
For example, could he keep Hazel's child a secret for life?
If the secret got out, the Adams family's reputation would be damaged, and they would surely divorce, creating another problem.
Benjamin's eyes reflected the dazzling lights outside the window. After a long while, he said, "One step at a time. If I don't succeed, I fail. I have no way back."
Katniss silently thought, 'Hazel also has no way back.'
"I've contacted Ms. Carter as Mr. White instructed," Samuel leaned forward and said to Katniss, "She will be discharged tomorrow afternoon, but she wants to see you."
"See me?"
To be honest, Katniss didn't want to see Hazel. She felt heartbroken for Hazel, who was a bit pitiful.
It always affected her mood.
"I understand, but I'll be a bit late tomorrow afternoon."
She didn't know when she could get away because she would have a meal with Matilda and the others."No problem. She just wants to see you once. You can go directly to the house then," Samuel said.
While they were discussing Hazel, Benjamin couldn't join the conversation.
Images of Hazel kept flashing in his mind, making him increasingly anxious.
He tugged at his tie and closed his eyes to rest.
On the weekend, Matilda and George arrived at ten o'clock, bringing many gifts, including clothes and toys for Evie.
Evie hadn't seen Matilda for a while and was no longer familiar with her, refusing to be held.
Matilda kept chasing after Evie, trying to amuse her, and George also got interested.
The atmosphere was good for a while, and Sophia couldn't find a suitable opportunity to talk to Matilda alone.
It wasn't until Tristan came downstairs and took Evie away, not giving Matilda and George a chance to play with her, that they sat down on the sofa obediently. George placed his hands on his legs, looking a bit nervous.
For some reason, the atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
"My cooking skills aren't great. Why don't you help my mom in the kitchen? I'll entertain George," Katniss broke the ice, giving Sophia a chance to talk to Matilda alone.
Matilda quickly got up and followed Sophia into the kitchen, closing the door behind them.
Through the glass window, they could be seen chatting and working together.
"Katniss, is your mom upset?" George wasn't entirely clueless and had noticed something.
When he greeted her upon entering, Sophia didn't respond.
Katniss asked back, "Why do you think she might be upset?"
"Because... I didn't tell her before registering my marriage with Matilda? When she stayed at my place for a few days, she seemed like she was on a mission, making me worried that something might go wrong." George scratched his head and glanced at the kitchen, adding, "You've lived with her for so long, don't you ever feel..."
