Chapter 431 Not Your Biological Child at All

Tristan suddenly agreed to get married. Although they didn't have a grand wedding, he made sure the media knew about it.

She felt he had another plan, keeping it from her.

"It really is about Lucas, but I don't know the details. I'll tell you when I get back." Tristan pinched her nose, his voice gentle, "I'm not hiding anything from you, just don't want you to worry about some things."

She didn't show it on her face, but after going through so much, she had to think about everything.

He was afraid she would be too tired.

Katniss turned her head away, grabbing his wrist and pulling his hand down. "If anything happens, call me immediately."

"Yes, Mrs. Forbes." Tristan teased, and they both left the house together. She drove to meet Ember, and he headed straight to Emory's house.

Moonlit Café was not far from where Katniss lived, just a ten-minute drive.

As soon as she got out of the car, she saw Ember sitting by the window in a private room on the second floor.

Ember was looking around the café, not noticing her.

After she went in and mentioned Ember's name, the waiter led her upstairs.

The door to the private room was slightly ajar. Katniss asked the waiter to leave and went in alone.

The red carpet muffled her footsteps, and the solid wood door opened without a sound.

Ember, standing by the window, started looking downstairs and talking to herself.

"I'm telling you, Sophia, you eat and drink from Katniss. Don't tell me you have no money! The money Katniss casually gives you is enough for you to spend for several lifetimes. If you don't buy me a villa today, I will..."

"What will you do?"

Katniss placed her bag on the table and pulled out a chair to sit down.

Ember was startled, turning around in shock. "You, why is it you?"

"Why can't it be me?" Katniss looked up at her. "The person you should be asking for a villa from is me, not my mom. She's not your mom and has no obligation to buy you a house."

"You..." Ember was furious. "What I said is true. You've given Sophia an unknown amount of money, and in the future, it will all go to her biological daughter. If you give it to me, at least it will go to Rupert! Why don't you help your own mother?"

Katniss looked at her calmly. "Just because she raised me, just because she never asks me for anything, just because she always puts me first, I would give her all my money, and it's none of your business."

In the quiet café, even in the private room, Ember's loud voice disturbed others.

A waiter quickly knocked on the door, asking if they needed anything.

"She doesn't drink coffee; just bring her a glass of water. And she can't afford your coffee. Also, please keep an eye on the door. If things get heated and I can't control myself, remind me. I have a family and can't do anything illegal."

Katniss smiled politely at the waiter, exuding an undeniable authority.

Ember's face turned red with anger. Wasn't she implying that she had never drunk coffee and was poor?

The waiter, not knowing the situation and not wanting to cause trouble, decided to stand guard at the door.

With the door closed, Ember kept looking at it. Katniss knocked on the table to remind her, "If you're not afraid of embarrassment, keep making a scene. I don't mind."

"Why should I be afraid of embarrassment? I'm not a celebrity, but you are. Aren't you afraid of everyone knowing?" Ember's face returned to its previous ruthlessness. "Let everyone know that while you live well, your own mother can only..."

Katniss impatiently interrupted her, "Stop threatening me. Just tell me what you used to threaten Sophia to make her buy you a house."

"I'm not threatening her." Ember lied without hesitation. "She feels guilty. She can't rely on her own daughter, so she relies on mine."

"I'm not here to listen to your lies. If you don't tell the truth, don't expect to see me again." Katniss squinted at her. "Let me tell you the truth. Sophia has my secondary card, but she has never spent a penny beyond living expenses. The secondary card has a limit, and she can't afford to buy you a house. The money for the house would have to come from me. If you don't tell me the truth, I won't give you the money."

Ember wasn't stupid. Katniss was just trying to get her to reveal what she used to threaten Sophia.

"I have nothing to threaten her with, and I won't tell you even if you ask." Ember sat down, looking away. "I have nothing to say to you. You can leave."

Katniss became even more curious about what it was. "If you don't tell me the truth today, don't think about leaving here."

"I..." Ember suddenly stood up, not knowing whether to sit or stand. "What do you want to do? Are you going to kill me here? I... I'm having a heart attack. I can't take it. Help!"

Her shouting quickly brought the waiter in, afraid that something serious might happen.

Seeing this, Katniss grabbed her bag and walked out.

There was no reasoning with someone so unreasonable.

As she walked out of the café and got into her car, Ember chased after her, sitting on the hood. "If you don't give me money, you can run me over!"

Through the car window, their eyes met, and Katniss's gaze turned cold. She opened the car door and got out. "You really don't want to stay in Velvet City. Have you considered the consequences if Rupert finds out you came to see me?"

She didn't want to tell Rupert about this, considering their mother-son relationship.

But Ember was going too far, and she didn't need to hold back.

"I don't care about the consequences. I just want you to buy me a villa." Ember sat cross-legged on the car's engine. "You're getting married tomorrow. If you have the guts, let's drag this out. I have nothing else to do."

Just as Katniss was about to call the police, Sophia suddenly appeared and pulled Ember off the car.

"Katniss, I'll hold her off. You go!"

The two of them wrestled on the ground, limbs entangled in a chaotic mess.

Katniss frowned, worried that Sophia might get hurt by Ember, and stepped forward to separate them.

"Sophia, stop pretending to be a good person! Get lost, or I'll scratch you so badly you won't be able to attend her wedding tomorrow! Let her get married alone!" Ember grabbed Sophia's collar.

Sophia held onto her tightly, not caring about the pain. "If I don't go, Matilda and Rupert will. She'll have family there, so don't worry about it!"

"Let go!" Katniss pulled Ember's hand away and freed Sophia. Before Ember could react, she dragged Sophia away.

She decided not to drive. It wasn't far from home, and there was no need to get entangled with someone like Ember.

"Everyone, look! My daughter is ungrateful. She doesn't take care of me. Please, someone help me!" Ember clung to Katniss's leg, wailing.

Some passersby, who lived nearby, quickly recognized Katniss and started whispering.

The surrounding accusations came, as there had long been rumors about Katniss's strained relationship with her biological mother.

Seeing it with their own eyes, Katniss's cold and distant demeanor was even more pronounced than they had imagined. Was this really her daughter?

"Shut up!" Sophia couldn't stand the insults directed at Katniss and shouted, "Katniss isn't even your biological daughter!"
