Chapter 360 Watching Me Have Dinner with Another Woman

Although the last few words were not spoken, the meaning was self-evident.

Katniss's eyes were serious as she asked George, "If it weren't for your mother's opposition to you being with Matilda, would you choose to live with your parents after getting married or move out?"

"Of course, move out," George said without hesitation. "We young people living with them would only increase conflicts."

Katniss had nothing to say to that. It wasn't that he disliked Sophia living with them; even if his parents lived with them wouldn't work.

"Matilda and I would have friction living together, let alone with older people. Living together would just be asking for trouble," George's thinking was very modern.

Katniss didn't beat around the bush on this matter. "Your mother came by yesterday. She said you have a childhood betrothal, and you've agreed to meet her."

Her words were straightforward and sudden, leaving George stunned for over ten seconds before he suddenly reacted.

"So when my mom called me yesterday to ask about registering the marriage, you were there?"

"Yes," Katniss glanced at the kitchen, "Mom was there too."

George slapped his forehead, "Oh no, I've been training every day for the competition recently. I was afraid that if I admitted it, I'd have to explain a lot to my mom, so I denied that we had registered the marriage. Is Ms. Sophia Stuart angry?"

No wonder he felt that Sophia's face looked worse than before when he came in today.

"Let's put the marriage registration aside for now. Is it true that you met with the woman you were betrothed to as a child?" Katniss's tone was very serious.

But George was not a serious person by nature. He looked embarrassed, "My mom said that if I met the woman and didn't find her suitable, I could be with whoever I wanted. She seemed to think I would definitely like that woman, but that's a joke. I only have Matilda in my heart. I just went to deal with it and shut my mom up. After meeting her, I would bring Matilda home."

He spoke confidently, as if everything was under his control.

"Maybe that's your way of handling things, but your actions have hurt Matilda. She is now your legal wife, and you denied your relationship with her in front of your mother. Moreover, you went behind her back to meet another woman. Do you think she can accept you hurting her and forcing your mother to accept her?"

"The goal was achieved, but who could guarantee that Matilda wouldn't have any resentment in her heart?"

"Then..." George was so anxious that he couldn't speak, "What should I do? Ms. Sophia Stuart knows everything? She will definitely tell Matilda. How do I explain it to Matilda?"

Before he could deceive Odette, he had already hurt both Matilda and Sophia.

He was extremely distressed.

Before Katniss could say anything, Matilda had already come out of the kitchen.

Her expression was very unpleasant, and her eyes were a bit red. She walked to the sofa, picked up her bag, and said, "Katniss, something suddenly came up at the education institution, so I won't be staying for dinner. Let's get together another day."

After saying that, she turned and walked towards the door. She changed her shoes at the entrance, while George was still sitting there with a tense face.

"Aren't you leaving?" She said angrily, "What will you eat if I'm not here?"

"Leaving!" George reacted and quickly got up. He whispered to Katniss, "Katniss, please say a few good words to Ms. Sophia Stuart for me. I'll go and appease Matilda first."

As soon as he finished speaking, he ran out like a gust of wind.

Through the floor-to-ceiling window, Katniss saw Matilda drive away directly, and he ran out chasing her.

"They left?" Sophia came out after washing her hands, but they were already gone.

"Yes."

Sophia sighed, "I hadn't even finished talking, and Matilda's temper flared up. I couldn't hold her back."

She had just said that George denied registering the marriage in front of them and was going to meet another woman.

Before she could analyze the situation with Matilda and discuss what to do next, Matilda had already left.

"She's still a child at heart, so impatient." Katniss said, "In a relationship, at least one person needs to be mature enough to prevent each other from getting hurt."

"So what do you think we should do?" Sophia couldn't bring herself to take Matilda to the Russell family and tell Odette that her daughter had already registered the marriage with George.

But clearly, leaving it to them to handle on their own would only result in Matilda getting hurt.

"I'll talk to Matilda later," Katniss had some things she wanted to discuss with Matilda, but she had run off before they could talk.

She could only resort to sending a message on Facebook.

[If two people who like each other don't necessarily have compatible personalities, if one of them knows how to be flexible, it might make things easier. George's immature ideas won't lead to a happy ending. If you can become mature and fight for your relationship, things might turn out differently.]

Matilda received Katniss's message on her way home.

She didn't wait for George.

After getting home and reading Katniss's message, Matilda thought for about an hour before George arrived home.

He changed his shoes, panting, and stood at the entrance for a while, observing Matilda before walking over in small steps.

"Matilda..."

"Don't speak yet," Matilda interrupted him, pointing to the farthest spot from her, "Sit down, we need to talk."

George sat down immediately, his body tense, hands on his knees, waiting for Matilda to speak first.

"I don't want to live like this anymore. I want a wedding, not to live like a hidden mouse with you for the rest of my life."

Matilda looked at him seriously, "You're meeting that woman tonight, right? I'll go too, but I won't disturb you. After you meet, at that restaurant, I'll come over and tell you and your mom about our marriage registration."

George frowned and tentatively said, "Can we wait a few days? Until after my competition? If we argue, I might get distracted and not be able to give my all in the competition."

"Are you planning to spend your life with the game or with me?" Matilda asked with a frown, "What's more important, our marriage or your game? If you put even a tenth of the effort you put into gaming into solving our issues, we wouldn't be in this situation!"

He was almost squeezing in time to solve their issues, including registering the marriage and arguing with his mother.

Sometimes when his mother called, he would postpone the argument because he was busy with work, and then call back to continue arguing after he was done.

"I married you because I like you and want to be with you. Even though my work sometimes reduces our time together, I've never been careless about our issues or the issues between our families."

The more Matilda thought about it, the more heartbroken and exhausted she felt, "I've made myself clear. Either I go with you tonight, or we get a divorce."

"No divorce!" George jumped up in a panic, hugging her tightly, "Okay, we'll go together tonight. Don't be upset. I didn't handle this well. I didn't expect my mom to go to your mom and tell her everything."

"If she hadn't told, would you have felt justified in hiding it from me and meeting another woman?" Matilda avoided his hand, "It's not just about the outcome, but the attitude and process of handling things."

Even if they couldn't be together in the end, the regret and heartbreak of unrequited love are different from the exhaustion and scars of a tumultuous relationship.

George swallowed his rebuttal.

"I'll listen to you. Don't be angry. I know I handled this wrong. I'll change and prioritize your feelings from now on."

George was terrified when she mentioned divorce.

He had proposed registering the marriage in a moment of impulse during an argument with Odette to show his determination.

But he had genuinely chosen Matilda, not just to spite Odette.

After registering the marriage, he never thought about divorce.

"We haven't eaten. You like that restaurant on the outskirts, right? I'll take you there now."

He pulled Matilda up, but she didn't want to move, "Forget it, it's too far. I don't have much of an appetite."

"If you don't eat now, you won't be able to eat later. Watching me eat with another woman, can you eat?" George tried to persuade her.

Matilda's face suddenly turned unpleasant, "Are you planning to eat with her for a long time?"

George quickly shook his head, "No, I mean, after dinner, we still have to talk to my mom. Who knows how long that will take, and the outcome might not be good. I don't want it to affect your mood."

In the afternoon, although Matilda didn't stay for lunch, Katniss waited until Samuel brought Hazel to the apartment before going to see Hazel.

After a few days, Hazel had lost some weight, making her figure look even better.

When Katniss arrived, Hazel was sitting on the sofa watching TV, with a fruit platter in front of her.

There were also two women around forty years old, probably hired to take care of her.

"Ms. Grey, you're here?" Hazel signaled to the two women.

The two women moved a bit further away but still kept Hazel within their sight.

They could even hear Katniss and Hazel's conversation.

"This environment is nice, good for recuperation," Katniss said as she sat down.

Hazel glanced at the two women nearby, bit her lip, and sighed, "It's nice, like a bird in a cage, safe with food and drink."

Samuel had left after bringing her here, so it was just the few of them.

Katniss didn't understand why Hazel had called her over, and now, listening to her ramble, she was even more confused.

Until the fruit platter was empty, Hazel turned and said, "I want some durian, do you have any?"

"Ms. Carter, we don't have durian at home, but we have other fruits." One of the women said, picking up the empty platter.

Hazel frowned, "Then go out and buy some."

When they were sent to take care of her, Benjamin had only given one instruction: to follow her wishes.

The two maids exchanged glances, and one of them left to buy the durian.

"You go get some other fruits," Hazel sent the other maid away too. Only when the living room was left with just her and Katniss did she start to speak.
