Chapter 278 I Never Thought You Were This Hypocritical Before

Katniss shot back, "Help me find a decent best man, and I'll be your maid of honor, no problem."

Katniss and Saskia had a tight bond; otherwise, she wouldn't have even thought about going.

But finding a best man this close to the wedding? That was a tough one. Saskia sighed, "At least you're coming to my wedding, and that makes me super happy. As for Tristan, he can find his own maid of honor. Don't stress too much about it. If you can't find a best man, just be part of my family."

The spotlight of this wedding was on Tristan and Katniss.

Their wedding got called off six days ago, and now they were both showing up at Saskia and Nicholas's wedding, which was sure to grab everyone's attention.

Finding separate partners to be the best man and maid of honor would be awkward, to say the least.

"I'll do my best," Katniss agreed, knowing it wouldn't be easy to find the right person.

She didn't know many people in this circle. Who would want to get involved with her now?

Katniss and Tristan had been at odds for almost half a month and hadn't seen each other once during that time.

Since the fallout at the Forbes Mansion, every move they made had been closely watched by Travis and Ivy.

"Tomorrow is the wedding of the Stuart family and the Kennedy family. They will definitely be there. We'll see if they've really cut ties by then," Ivy said while watering the flowers.

Eudora chimed in, "They were supposed to be the best man and maid of honor, but now their names are listed as 'to be determined.'"

'To be determined' meant they might or might not show up.

The separate listings hinted that Katniss and Tristan had split up and might each find someone else to go to the wedding with.

Ivy paused her watering, a sudden smile lighting up her face. "What are you waiting for? This is a golden opportunity. Don't you want to seize it?"

Of course, Eudora wanted to take advantage of it! She dreamed of being seen in public with Tristan.

But after the awkward incident at the hospital, she couldn't just rush back to him. She needed to be patient.

"You finally got rid of Katniss, but now you can't do anything? Useless." Ivy threw the watering can to the ground, making a sharp sound.

"Go find Adelaide and have her set it up so you and Tristan go to the Kennedy family wedding together. Being close to him will make it easier to keep an eye on him and Katniss." Travis had once again pushed the problem onto Adelaide.

Eudora couldn't refuse and could only respond, "Alright, I'll go right away."

She turned and headed straight for the Forbes Mansion.

The midday sun was pleasantly warm as Adelaide sat in the garden, soaking up the rays. She had dozed off for a bit and opened her eyes when she heard footsteps. Seeing it was Eudora, she closed her eyes again, pretending to sleep.

Eudora said, "Grandma, tomorrow's the Kennedy family wedding. Tristan was supposed to be the best man, but now he's listed as 'to be determined.' If he can't find a suitable maid of honor, he'll be a laughingstock. Could you..."

"Why are you saying so much? Just tell me you want to go to the Kennedy family wedding as Tristan's maid of honor," Adelaide cut in, sounding annoyed. "I never realized you were so fake. Now, you always have an excuse."

Eudora felt like her act had been completely seen through, and the disdainful looks from others made her feel particularly uncomfortable. She said, "What I mean is, he needs a suitable maid of honor to attend the wedding."

"Then I'll find someone. You can go now," Adelaide said sternly, dismissing her.

Everyone could see through Eudora's act now, and she was still pretending.

"Grandma, did I do something wrong?" Eudora's eyes reddened, but she held back her tears. "You feel sorry for Katniss being used by the Forbes family, but what about me? I came to the Forbes family when I was so young. They were so cruel to me and ruined my life, making it impossible for me to be a mother. Why can't you feel sorry for me?"

Eudora's crying didn't make Adelaide feel sorry, but it did annoy her. Adelaide remarked, "Eudora, I'm trying to preserve your dignity, but if you don't care about it, there's not much I can do. I'll call Tristan right now and let you walk away."

With that, she pulled out her phone and dialed Tristan's number. It rang several times before he finally picked up.

Tristan's voice was distant and indifferent. "Grandma, what do you need?"

"You're going to the Kennedy family wedding as the best man tomorrow. Can you take Eudora as your partner?" Adelaide asked directly.

Tristan's response was even more direct and blunt. "I'd rather take a dog than her. Don't try to set me up with any more women, or else..."

He didn't finish the sentence, but the meaning was clear. The call was abruptly ended.

Adelaide didn't seem surprised by Tristan's attitude. She said, "He thinks I conspired with Katniss to deceive him. He's already hurt and blames me. If he finds out Katniss is also innocent, he'll probably hate me even more."

She continued, "I can't help you with his matters anymore. Go back and tell Travis that if he, as a father, can't ultimately outmaneuver Tristan, everyone will be waiting to laugh at him." With that, she pushed herself up from the chair and went back inside.

The warm sun shone on Eudora, but she still felt very cold.

So, in Tristan's eyes, was she really worse than a dog?The blatant humiliation cut deep, but she held it in and only broke down in tears once she got back to her car.

How could Tristan treat her like this? What did she do wrong? Was it a crime to love him?

She drove away with tear-filled eyes, and by the time she reached Michael's place, her eyes were swollen from crying.

The situation with the Astor family had gradually stabilized. Initially, many shareholders had bailed due to previous issues, but eventually, someone invested a chunk of money, allowing the Astor family to get back on track.

Michael had tried to see Eudora several times, but she had always found excuses to dodge him. Now, Eudora had come to him alone, crying like this, and Michael's heart ached for her immediately.

"Eudora, what's wrong?" he asked.

"Michael, I don't know why this is happening. Katniss and Tristan had a falling out, and Tristan is taking all his anger out on me. Mrs. Forbes wants to set me up with Tristan to help him deceive Travis and Ivy. She wants me to go to the Kennedy family wedding with him, but Tristan said he'd rather take a dog than me. What did I do wrong? Is this my fate, to be pushed around and humiliated by them?" Eudora's lips moved, twisting the truth.

Her tears kept falling, and Michael, overwhelmed with emotion, struggled to separate fact from fiction. All he could feel was heartbreak for her.

He wiped her tears and comforted her, "Don't cry. Tristan is a jerk. He's taking out his anger on you because of his love-hate relationship with Katniss. It's not your fault."

He continued, "And Mrs. Forbes is wrong too. Pushing you to Tristan in this situation is bound to make Tristan unhappy."

The Forbes family members were all schemers. Eudora had no background and survived by relying on the Forbes family, only to be bullied.

The more Michael thought about it, the more he felt for her. He exclaimed, "Eudora, don't cry. I'll teach Tristan a lesson for you. Trust me."

"No!" Eudora quickly grabbed his wrist. "The Astor family has just stabilized. Don't provoke Tristan. I can endure my grievances."

She made a lot of sense, and Michael was moved, but he couldn't just watch her be bullied. He said, "Then I'll find the person who should bear Tristan's anger and vent for you. Eudora, I won't let them bully you anymore. I'm getting stronger. A top venture capital company from abroad is investing in me. With their help, I won't be afraid of the Forbes family anymore!"

Hearing this, Eudora felt a surge of joy. Michael was still useful to her, and if things could go back to how they were, it would be even better.

But before she could think any further, Michael's expression had already shifted.A grown man, who had explored intimacy and learned various tricks from Lila, now held the woman he had loved for more than a decade in his arms.

Her soft body against his stirred his desires.

However, Eudora found it disgusting. Since Michael had slept with Lila, she had refused his advances several times.

Today, in her haste to come over, she had essentially delivered herself to him.

But things had reached a tipping point, and Michael was ready to take action against Katniss on her behalf. Eudora couldn't refuse to offer him some advantages in return.

In broad daylight, Michael's apartment turned into the setting for a passionate encounter, where he used many of the skills he had learned from Lila on Eudora.

Eudora felt both disgusted and, for once, immersed in the experience.

In the end, she came to terms with it. After all, Tristan wasn't a virgin either. She didn't need to stay pure for him.

As long as she could achieve her goals, what difference did it make if she had sex once or several times?

She became enthusiastic, and her response drove Michael wild with joy.

They made love from noon until evening, and Eudora passed out, while Michael got up to his study to plan for the wedding the next day.

After much thought, he didn't hand the matter over to Samuel.

Benjamin also attended Saskia's wedding.

Katniss, wearing a light purple dress, entered the hotel with Matilda, avoiding the crowded areas as they headed upstairs to the dressing room to find Saskia.

"Katniss, you go ahead. I'll wait here for George," Matilda said, letting go of Katniss's arm with a slightly unnatural expression.

People passing by occasionally glanced at them. Katniss noticed something was off and pulled Matilda to a corner. "He hasn't arrived yet?"

"No, it seems there's traffic," Matilda replied. "I've told him so many times to come early."

Katniss said, "Saskia only has three pairs of bridesmaids and groomsmen. I can't make it, and I don't know if the Forbes family can find suitable people. It's just you and George left. Don't let anything go wrong. Hurry and call him."

Katniss remembered Saskia repeatedly expressing relief yesterday that at least Matilda and George would be there.

Matilda nodded quickly and turned to call George repeatedly.

After their last argument, they had several more ups and downs.

When Katniss was in trouble, Matilda called George, but he didn't answer, which made her very sad.

Maybe George saw the news later and called her several times, but her mind was on Katniss, so she didn't answer.

George hadn't contacted Matilda since then, and it had been nearly ten days. She only remembered a couple of days ago that they were supposed to be the best man and maid of honor.
