Chapter 398 Evie Still Recognizes Him

The doctor immediately nodded, "Ms. Grey, don't worry, Mr. Gray has already explained everything."

Katniss took the ointment prescribed by the doctor and only applied it to the visible areas. The red spots on her back, which she couldn't reach, continued to itch.

There were many people in the small village, and it would take two or three days to complete all the medical examinations.

Besides playing with Evie in the house, she would go out to bask in the sun when the weather was good at noon. She didn't look at Tristan again.

The festive decorations were everywhere, making her feel uncomfortable.

In a few days, Evie became familiar with the surroundings, wandering around in her walker, while Katniss sat on the steps watching her.

The white T-shirt was stained with spots of red blood, which was from the worsening allergy on her back where she couldn't apply the ointment.

But she seemed to feel no pain, putting on and taking off her clothes every day, enduring the pain of scabs forming and then tearing open the wounds.

Nicholas couldn't bear to see it, wanting to help but unable to.

Eventually, when he saw Tristan, he couldn't help but say, "She's suffering a lot, being allergic in this place, and there's no one to help her apply some ointment on her back."

Tristan was carving a small wooden puppet. Hearing his words, he paused, "There are women in the village."

"She won't let them." Nicholas sighed, "After all, she has to take off her shirt, and Evie clings to her tightly. She doesn't feel safe leaving the child with a stranger in a room."

In the end, her mind wasn't on the wound, and she didn't seem to feel uncomfortable.

"Fortunately, Evie is adapting well to life here; otherwise, she would be panicking." Nicholas sat down and looked at the little thing in his hand. "How many days until it's finished? Tomorrow it's your turn for the medical examination. You might see Evie then, and you can give it to her yourself?"

It was a cartoon doll, a character from the most popular animated series at the moment.

Knowing that Evie was coming, Tristan started making it, working on it from the moment he woke up until he went to bed at night.

It was almost finished now, just needing the facial features to be painted.

"You give it to her for me." Tristan meticulously carved the puppet, his hands almost bleeding from the friction with the sandpaper.

Hearing this, Nicholas sighed lightly and said no more.

Tristan deliberately scheduled his medical examination for the last day, knowing well what the examination was for.

Early the next morning, he handed the finished puppet to Nicholas and then slowly walked towards the village entrance.

Katniss saw him immediately, though it was only about 1000 feet away, and it took him more than ten minutes to walk over.

Seeing his stiff legs, she whispered something to the doctor.

"Everyone, let's prioritize the elderly and those with mobility issues for the examination," the doctor shouted to the crowd.

Immediately, people made way, and Tristan, who was behind twenty or thirty people, looked up and met Katniss's clear eyes.

After a moment, he looked away and slowly walked over without objection.

Suddenly, he felt a tug on his pant leg and looked down to find a small hand grabbing it.

Evie was sitting in her walker, looking up at him. When he looked down, she called out and gave a sweet smile.

Three months didn't matter; Evie still recognized him.

Tristan gripped the wooden stick harder, his eyes fixed on the Evie he had missed day and night.

His side profile was tense, his brows gradually furrowing, aware that Katniss was observing him.

He should have walked away decisively, but he couldn't bear to leave.

"Whose child is this?" Maddy walked over quickly and pulled Evie's hand away. "Go find your parents, don't interfere with our examination."

Perhaps because of the unfamiliar face or Maddy's bad attitude, Evie became anxious, her face turning red as she called out twice, looking towards Katniss.

Evie's big eyes were wet, her little red mouth pouting, about to cry.

Evie's expression seemed to say, 'Mommy, someone is bullying me, are you going to do something about it?'

Katniss got up and walked over, glanced at Maddy's hand holding Tristan's arm, and quickly pulled Evie aside.

"Evie, be good, play with mommy."

The doctor, citing Tristan's mobility issues, took him inside for an examination on a bed.

This doctor was a famous psychologist in the country, planning to hypnotize Tristan, "In a moment, just look at this pocket watch..."

Outside, Maddy walked up to Katniss and said, "Are you planning to stay here forever? I'm about to marry Tristan, do you think it's appropriate?"

"Marrying a man with amnesia, do you think that's appropriate?" Katniss stood up, patiently negotiating with Maddy, "You're marrying him because you're missing an arm, no one else will marry you, and you don't want to be alone forever. What if I give you enough money?"

"I'm not as shallow as you think. The things I said before were lies. I'm marrying him because I like him." Maddy snorted coldly, unwilling to show weakness.

Like him? Katniss couldn't help but laugh, "Does your liking have no principles? Liking a married man, liking someone who is already a father?"

She pointed to Evie, who was holding a bottle and drinking water, "This is his daughter. She can't grow up without her father's presence. Do you not care about that?"

"There are plenty of divorced people, do you think they can't live? Don't use the law to pressure me. You and Tristan aren't protected by the law! If you care about the child, take her and leave now, so you don't feel bad seeing us get married."

Maddy spoke confidently and walked away arrogantly.

Katniss pressed her lips together, staring at Maddy's departing figure, then sat down as if nothing had happened and played with Evie.

She wasn't giving up; there were still a few days before the wedding.

She still had to hear what the doctor had to say later.

Half an hour later, the doctor came out of the room, accompanied by Tristan, who had been examined, and Emory, who had somehow gone in.

Seeing Katniss's gaze, Emory awkwardly put his hands in his pockets and stood in the corner.

The doctor handed over the remaining examination work to his assistant and went to report to Katniss.

"Mr. Forbes's condition is very complicated. I heard about your and Mr. Forbes's situation from the news. He guarded you like a treasure, went through the process of almost being separated from the child, and although he seems fine, he's highly stressed. He also planned how to capture Duke, which indeed makes him very vigilant."

The doctor analyzed the condition thoroughly, "Plus, with his amnesia, the unknown past adds to his fear and vigilance, so it's not suitable to forcefully take him away."

Hearing this, Katniss's hopes were dashed.

"Then... how is his body? Is he seriously injured? Can he recover?" Seeing Tristan moving slowly like a 'cripple,' she felt extremely distressed.

"Well..." The doctor instinctively glanced at Emory in the corner, who gave him a look, and he quickly said, "If he had received proper treatment from the beginning, he might be better than now, but the injuries have been there too long, making it difficult to recover to a normal state."
