Chapter 29 They Are Calling You
George was dying to switch seats, but he still muttered, "Nah, it's cool."
He had to chat about the game with some buddies on the way.
One of his pals noticed and asked, "George, who's this?"
George looked annoyed. He was all about his image. If he introduced Katniss as his girl and folks saw her sitting with another dude, he'd be humiliated!
"Friend," Katniss said, tilting her head slightly and nodding at George's buddy. Then she turned to George, "C'mon, sit down, the bus is about to roll."
George instinctively glanced at Tristan, whose smirk made George super uncomfortable.
He cleared his throat and said, "Girlfriend."
George's pals all turned to look at Katniss at the same time, and in unison, they said, "Hey! Nice to meet you."
Tristan's eyes deepened as he looked at Katniss. She was rocking a simple T-shirt and sweatpants, with her long hair down.
Her features were delicate and pure, like a college student, making it hard to tell she was older than George.
He smirked and said, "Katniss, they're saying hi to you."
Katniss felt a chill down her spine and didn't dare respond. She forced a laugh and said, "The bus is about to leave, everyone should sit down."
George's pals, noticing Katniss's reserved vibe, turned to George instead, teasing him and asking when he had found such a beautiful girlfriend.
Katniss's cheeks turned red because Tristan kept staring at her. His gaze was light but hard to ignore, making her think he was doing it on purpose.
But she couldn't find any proof.
Feeling awkward too, George casually said something to appease his pals, then sneakily glanced at Katniss and Tristan.
The two were quiet, saying nothing. As the bus started, everyone pulled down the sunshades, making the cabin a bit dark.
With Tristan's tall frame completely blocking Katniss's petite body, George couldn't even see a strand of her hair.
He buried his head in his phone, looking at his chat history with North.
At first, he was the only one sending messages, with North not replying at all, until yesterday when he mentioned the game.
He had enthusiastically invited North to watch their game in Kingstone, but North only asked about the specific schedule and didn't say whether he would come.
Since he asked about the specific competition time and schedule, North should be coming, and George was eagerly looking forward to it!
The bus hit the highway, stopping at service areas every three hours, and finally rolled into Kingstone.
Kingstone was this chill little town with killer scenery and a humid vibe. They rolled into Kingstone in the evening, so it was all quiet and peaceful.
Katniss felt sore and numb from sitting, and seeing Tristan lugging both their suitcases, she just trailed behind him off the bus without a word.
George, right behind her, whispered, "Katniss, our game's the day after tomorrow. You coming?"
Katniss hopped off the bus and saw Tristan heading straight for the exit without a pause. She quickly replied, "I'll see how it goes. If I wrap things up, I'll come over."
"Cool," George said, glancing at Tristan's back, and whispered, "Katniss, if you get any trouble, hit me up. I'll come save you!"
Katniss looked puzzled, not getting why George would say that, but she figured it was 'cause Tristan's icy vibe seemed kinda scary.
She jogged to catch up with Tristan, who had already flagged down a cab and tossed the luggage in the trunk. Seeing her approach, he said, "No need to be so dramatic, you'll see him again."
Katniss found him annoying but was used to his sarcastic tone. She got into the cab, heading straight to the hotel.
Since it was a last-minute trip, they had to book a hotel on the spot. Katniss and Tristan handed their driver's licenses to the front desk.
George and his crew came in right behind them, bumping into them again.
What a coincidence! They both ended up in Kingstone and even at the same hotel.
"Hello, sir. Would you like to book a presidential suite for you and your wife?" the front desk asked Katniss and Tristan after checking the room availability.
Tristan, with one hand in his pocket, glanced sideways at Katniss, like he was asking for her opinion.
Before Katniss could say anything, George stormed over and said, "No, they're not married! Get them two rooms! If there are no presidential suites, get something else!"
The front desk looked at Tristan and Katniss in surprise, more curious about George's relationship with them, given his outburst.
But neither Tristan nor Katniss explained, and Katniss looked a bit embarrassed, suggesting they really weren't married.
The front desk could only apologize, "Sorry, let me check for other rooms."
After some fiddling with the computer, the front desk looked at George's group and said, "Besides the presidential suite, the only other rooms available are the two reserved by Mr. Russell."
George had come prepared, having booked rooms in advance. Changing hotels wasn't an option either.
But he couldn't just stand by and watch Katniss and Tristan share a suite!
Tristan said in a low voice, "The presidential suite has two rooms. Mr. Russell shouldn't mind, right? After all, we've occasionally stayed like this before."
George was left speechless.
Katniss pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling super awkward. She wondered what George's buddies would think of her.
Tristan continued, "What are you waiting for? Swipe the card."
His wallet was in Katniss's bag. She took out the card and was about to hand it to the front desk when George stopped her.
George grabbed Katniss's wrist and said harshly, "No..."
"What?" Tristan cut him off, "Mr. Russell, do you want to book a room for me and your girlfriend? Forget it, I already had a free lunch yesterday, I'll cover the room myself."
He took the card from Katniss's hand and handed it to the front desk.
The front desk clerk's mouth twitched. Although the relationship sounded complicated, Tristan's behavior was a bit too much!
But his noble demeanor and mature male charm made him incredibly alluring!
The front desk quickly completed the check-in process and handed the room key to Tristan. He took the key and their luggage, gesturing for Katniss to follow him.
Katniss gave George a small smile and said softly, "It's getting late. Let's check in first and talk about everything else later."
George watched helplessly as she followed Tristan into the elevator. As the elevator doors slowly closed, Tristan raised an eyebrow and gave him a polite but provocative smile!
The politeness was mixed with provocation! George angrily kicked his luggage. This was definitely not a coincidence!
"George," a buddy said to him, "is she really your girlfriend?"
George replied, "I'll explain later. Let's check in first!"
They took out their driver's licenses, verified their identities, and also got into the elevator.
After a while, the buddy who had spoken earlier cautiously said, "George, if she's not really your girlfriend, you should give up. Those two look pretty well-matched, and that guy doesn't seem easy to deal with."
George turned sharply to stare at the speaker and asked, "Do I look easy to deal with?"
The buddy thought for a moment and said, "You look like a wolf cub; he looks like a lion."
George couldn't match Tristan's commanding presence and aura.
George paused.
In the room, Katniss was slightly organizing her luggage. Just as she finished, she saw Tristan standing at the door with his suitcase beside him.
He glanced at his suitcase and said, "Help me organize mine too. Do you want to go out for dinner or have it in the room?"
Katniss hesitated for a few seconds and asked, "Are you going to sleep in my room?"
Tristan said nothing, leaning against the wall and looking at her deeply.
Katniss decided not to be pretentious and walked over to lay his suitcase on the floor, taking out various chargers and other items.
"Let's eat in the room. I'm tired from sitting all day." Her legs were still sore, and thinking about him sleeping in her room tonight, she looked up seriously and asked, "Aren't you tired?"
Tristan walked slowly into her room, making the spacious room suddenly feel cramped, his presence filling every corner.
"If you're tired, it's better to relax so you can sleep well."
Katniss knew exactly what he meant by "relax", and with a sigh, she quickly organized his luggage.
Soon, the hotel staff brought their dinner. Katniss ate a lot and quickly went to take a shower, eager to lie down and rest.
But Tristan wasn't planning to let her off. After his shower, with his short hair still wet, he climbed onto her bed, propping his head up with one hand and watching her wrap herself tightly.
Only her head was exposed, her eyes slightly squinted. She said, "I'm tired."
Her voice was soft and sweet, almost like she was acting cute. She had never been like this before; today had really exhausted her.
Tristan's heart seemed to be touched by something, his gaze deepening. He ran his fingers through her long hair, smoothing it out.
"It's okay, you don't have to move." He kissed her forehead, then trailed kisses down to her eyes.
Katniss couldn't resist his tenderness and closed her eyes slightly, responding to him.
Water droplets from his hair fell on her cheek, sliding down to her earlobe, which he gently wiped away with his thumb.
In the midst of their intimacy.
Suddenly, someone rang the doorbell. Tristan paused, his half-closed eyes opening to see Katniss still lost in the moment, her eyes dreamy, hair down, and lips slightly parted.
"Someone's here?" Her eyes gradually focused, she pushed Tristan's chest lightly and said, "I'll get the door!"
Tristan still held her down, taking a deep breath at her neck, his voice hoarse as he said, "Are you sure?"
Katniss's nightgown was half on the bed and half on the floor. Her cheeks were red, and she didn't need to think to know what she looked like right now.
The weight on her body suddenly disappeared. Tristan got up, picked up the robe from the floor, put it on, and walked to the door, his breathing steady.
Outside, George stood there. Seeing Tristan open the door, he frowned and asked, "Mr. Forbes, where's Katniss?"
Tristan replied, "Do you need something from her?"
