Chapter 447 I Want to Kill Him
"Where does it hurt?" Tristan slipped his arm around Katniss's waist, lifting her as he strode out. "I'm taking you to the hospital."
Katniss quickly grabbed his arm, shaking her head. "No more hospitals. Let's just go home."
Hospitals had left a deep scar on Katniss's heart.
First it was Sophia, now Tristan.
Katniss had grown to despise hospitals, not even wanting to hear the word.
Tristan's grip around her waist tightened, his intense eyes fixed on her. He finally relented, "Alright, no hospital."
As Tristan carried Katniss past Nicholas, Nicholas draped his suit jacket over Tristan's shoulders.
The two walked out of the hotel, drawing attention. The black suit jacket only covered Tristan's back, leaving his bare chest partially shielded by Katniss.
Katniss was wrapped in a hospital gown, matching Tristan's pants, clearly part of a set.
Tristan placed her in the car, but before she could settle, a piercing sound came from nearby.
They both turned to see Travis engulfed in flames.
He had run too fast, darting into the busy street, getting hit by a car, and being thrown into a high-voltage line.
The powerful voltage turned Travis into sparks, and he fell heavily to the ground, twitching twice before lying still.
"He..." Katniss immediately looked at Tristan, knowing that was his father.
Tristan's hand gripping the car door turned white, but he quickly looked away. "He brought it on himself. He owed my mom a life, and now he's paid it back."
With that, Tristan bent down to fasten Katniss's seatbelt, then got into the driver's seat and drove away, leaving the scene behind.
The bustling city center was noisy, but the car was eerily quiet.
The silence made Katniss feel like it was a dream. She leaned against the passenger seat, staring at Tristan without blinking.
His suit jacket had fallen off when he got in, leaving his upper body bare, bathed in the lights reflecting through the car window, exuding a strong masculine aura.
Katniss raised her hand, sliding it down Tristan's shoulder, across his defined arm muscles, and onto his veined hand.
Feeling Tristan's warmth, she knew this wasn't a dream.
"When did you wake up?" Her voice was hoarse. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Just woke up." Tristan glanced at Katniss, then looked ahead, pressing the gas pedal harder. "I heard Ryan's call to Emory and Nicholas. I woke up shortly after they left."
These days, he had been drifting between consciousness and sleep.
Ryan's call had stirred his emotions, breaking through the barriers and waking him up.
After waking, Tristan quickly got out of bed, pulling out the IV.
The nurse was almost scared to death, and several people chased after him but couldn't catch him.
Tristan used the phone Katniss left to call Emory and Nicholas, who came back to pick him up.
On the way to rescue Katniss, Emory and Nicholas were more shocked than Katniss was now.
Just then, Emory called, and Tristan answered, the phone automatically connecting to the car's Bluetooth, filling the car with Emory's voice.
"Katniss, Tristan woke up! Is Tristan the one who saved you?"
Katniss turned away, unable to speak through her smile, tears streaming down her face. After a moment, she replied, "You brought him, and you're asking me?"
Emory immediately cursed, and Nicholas's angry voice followed.
"Is this guy even human?"
"He got in our car and didn't say a word, just kept telling me to drive faster!"
"I'm going to kill him. I've never cried this much in my life."
"Same here. I didn't cry this much even when my wife was giving birth!"
Their loud voices made Katniss's ears itch. She couldn't help but lower her head, burying it in her hospital gown.
Seeing this, Tristan snapped, "Shut up. We'll get together in a few days. Hanging up now!"
"Wait!" Emory quickly said, "Why a few days? What are you doing tonight? If not tonight, then tomorrow, the day after, or the day after that! Why a few days?"
"No time." Tristan's thin lips released a single sentence before he hung up.
He glanced at Katniss beside him, her eyes glistening, sinking deep into his heart.
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a villa.
They entered the villa, where Sophia was watching Evie. She stood up to greet them, saying, "Evie, Mommy's home, Mom..."
Before she could finish, she saw Tristan standing in the doorway, draped in a suit jacket, looking both disheveled and dignified.
Sophia was stunned.
Evie reached out her little hands towards Katniss.
Katniss quickly walked over, ready to pick her up, but Evie suddenly pushed her away.
Evie's face lit up with a smile, her bright eyes reflecting Tristan, her chubby hand pointing at him.
"Daddy's home." Katniss pulled Tristan closer.
Tristan greeted Sophia, but before he could say more, Evie was already in his arms.
He held Evie, her soft little body melting his heart, his gaze becoming tender.
"Daddy!" Evie kissed his cheek several times, saying, "Daddy."
Compared to Evie's resistance at the wedding, her warmth now made Tristan's heart both warm and ache.
He pressed his cheek to Evie's, his voice soft but his promise heavy, "Daddy's home. Daddy will never leave again."
Sophia's tears fell unexpectedly, and she nodded repeatedly. "That's right. Never leave again. Have you eaten?"
"Not yet." Katniss shook her head. "Don't worry about us. The doctor will come by later for a check-up. After that, we'll know if he can eat."
Tristan hadn't eaten in a long time, relying on IV nutrition. His condition needed a professional check-up.
On the way, Katniss had messaged Emory to have the doctor come over.
Soon, the doctor arrived, performing a series of basic checks. "There doesn't seem to be any major issues, but I still recommend Mr. Forbes return to the hospital tomorrow for a full examination."
Some tests required precise instruments to ensure everything was fine.
Katniss immediately arranged for a full-body check-up the next day.
"Wait, check her injuries, too." Tristan put on the shirt Katniss had just taken off, grabbing her hand and rolling up her sleeve.
The bruises on Katniss's arm were shocking, making Tristan's heart sink.
But Katniss's injuries were superficial. The doctor left some ointment for bruises and left.
While they were being checked, Sophia made noodles as the doctor instructed. Once the doctor left, they ate quickly, finishing in five minutes.
Then Sophia took Evie, saying, "You both need to rest. Evie will stay with me tonight."
