Chapter 459 You Should See That Something was off in the Banks Family

Tristan furrowed his brow and said firmly, "No, I'm just here to drop off her luggage."

"You can't take her away!" Charlotte ignored him, clutching Katniss's hand tightly. "She's part of the Banks family. She has Banks's blood. You can't just buy her like that!"

Charlotte's other hand pointed at Tristan, trembling.

Katniss quickly grabbed her hand, soothing her, "Grandma, I'm not leaving. Tristan's just bringing my stuff so I can stay longer."

Katniss gently patted Charlotte's back and gave Tristan a meaningful look.

"Grandma, I'm not taking her away. After breakfast, I'll leave with my daughter. Is that okay?" Tristan tried to calm Charlotte down.

Evie sat in her chair, her little legs swinging back and forth, her big eyes watching them intently, forgetting all about her breakfast.

Fortunately, Tristan's words calmed Charlotte down. She didn't continue to shout, or else Evie might have been scared to tears.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Violette patted Charlotte's back. "You always taught us to treat guests well. How can you break your own rule?"

Charlotte gradually calmed down but still held Katniss's hand tightly, refusing to let go.

Tristan had to restrain himself from looking at Katniss too much, lest Charlotte think he was trying to take her away and get overly emotional.

As a result, he didn't get a chance to speak to Katniss during the entire meal.

He had hoped to say a few words when leaving, but as soon as he put down his utensils, Charlotte told Violette, "You go see the guests out. Let the child take me back to my room."

"Katniss probably has things to discuss with her cousin. Why should I go?" Violette protested.

"Just go!" Charlotte insisted.

Violette had no choice but to comply, "Fine, fine, I'll go."

She stood up, nodded apologetically to Tristan, and then instructed Katniss to carefully push Charlotte back.

Tristan picked up Evie, who reached out her little hand and called "Mommy, Mommy" as she watched Katniss walk away.

Katniss watched them disappear through the front door before pushing Charlotte back inside.

"Don't be in such a hurry to leave." Charlotte touched the wheelchair wheel, creating resistance.

Katniss quickly stopped, "What's wrong, Grandma?"

"Nicolette is in the room. Push me to the small park for a walk." Charlotte pointed in a direction.

She looked up and gave Katniss a meaningful glance. Katniss immediately understood and turned to walk in the opposite direction.

The next moment, Nicolette came out of the room. "Ms. Grey, it's chilly outside. After breakfast, you should take Mrs. Banks back inside."

"I want to go to the park and get some sun," Charlotte said immediately.

Nicolette smiled and refused, walking over to take Charlotte's wheelchair from Katniss. "It's too cold in the morning. There's no sun."

Katniss didn't let go of the wheelchair handle. Seeing this, Nicolette patted her wrist. "Let me take over."

Charlotte's face showed urgency and disappointment, but she didn't know what to say.

Katniss pushed Nicolette's hand away. "No need. I'll take Grandma to the park. She's dressed warmly. Even though the morning sun isn't strong, it's not too cold. Plus, the park's air is fresh in the morning. It's good to go out."

Nicolette looked at Katniss in surprise.

Katniss's clear eyes glanced sideways at her. "Got any other questions?"

An undeniable aura surrounded her, and Nicolette was momentarily speechless.

Yesterday, Katniss had been calm and gentle, but now she was suddenly assertive and commanding, like a different person.

Nicolette instinctively shook her head. "No."

"Alright then, Grandma, let's head to the park." Katniss pushed Charlotte away.

Sitting in the wheelchair, Charlotte suddenly smiled, seemingly pleased with something.

The entire park was bathed in the morning sunlight, surrounded by plains with a constant breeze.

Finding a slightly sheltered spot, Katniss knelt down to adjust Charlotte's clothes.

Charlotte grabbed her hand and said directly, "You're smart. You should see that something's off with the Banks family."

Katniss paused and nodded. "I can't quite figure out what's wrong."

"Don't worry about the specifics. Just remember one thing: don't trust anyone easily. It's not as simple as you think!" Charlotte spoke urgently, afraid she wouldn't have time to convey this message.

Just as Charlotte finished speaking, footsteps approached.

Violette hurried over, smiling as she looked at Katniss and Charlotte. "I turned around for a second, and you two disappeared. What are you doing out here in the cold? Can't you talk inside?"

Charlotte's urgency and worry were hidden away. She snorted, "I haven't been out for a walk in days. I wanted to come out."

"You're used to the temperature here, but look at Katniss. Her face is red from the cold." Violette patted her shoulder. "Let's go back inside, okay?"

It was indeed cold. Katniss wore a thick down jacket, but her hands and feet hadn't warmed up since leaving the morning bed.

Now, the morning wind made her cheeks red and her hands numb.

"Okay, let's go back." Charlotte saw Katniss's red face and relented.

Katniss agreed and followed them back, her mind stirred by Charlotte's words.

She lagged behind Violette, observing her back thoughtfully.

Violette was very attentive to Charlotte, chatting and laughing as she pushed her back to the room. Once inside, she pulled Katniss to sit down and chat with Charlotte.

She fed Charlotte fruit and helped her to the bathroom, doing everything herself.

Occasionally, she gave Katniss minor tasks, saying she needed time to get used to things before taking full responsibility for Charlotte's care.

But in reality, she was preventing Katniss and Charlotte from being alone.

They had only exchanged a few words in the garden before it became clear.

"Aunt Violette, where does my dad work?" Katniss decided to probe Violette. "Is he at the same company as Atticus?"

Violette paused while adjusting Charlotte's blanket and replied without hesitation, "He works at Infinity Ventures Corporation, a major company in Northern Grassland City."

Charlotte glanced at Katniss upon hearing this.

"How much does he make a month? If it's too hard, can he support the family? This estate looks valuable. If necessary, selling it would ease the burden." As soon as Katniss said this, Violette stopped and turned to scrutinize her.
