Chapter 226 Could you please stop embarrassing me?

But how was Michael supposed to let Eudora in on his deal with Lila?

"I'm not sure, but as long as she's interested, it works in our favor. Once Katniss is out of the picture, more people who like Tristan will step up, and his marriage will be sorted soon." By then, Eudora would be free.

He grabbed Eudora's hand and whispered, "Eudora, about that day..."

When Eudora heard him bring up that day, her face went pale, and she quickly pulled her hand away. "Don't mention it again. Let's just pretend it never happened."

Michael's face fell a bit. "I'm sorry, I was too impulsive that day. I'll be better prepared next time."

His apology didn't mean much to Eudora, but she had to respond somehow.

The party was in full swing. Wren rarely went to these events with Daniel, and she soon couldn't stand it in her high heels.

Daniel turned to Katniss for help, "Ms. Grey, could you take my wife to the lounge upstairs to rest? I don't feel comfortable leaving her alone."

"Sure." Katniss slipped her arm out of Tristan's and linked it with Wren's.

Feeling the sudden lightness in his arm, Tristan frowned slightly and glanced at Katniss. He still said, "Call me if anything comes up."

"What could possibly happen?" Wren teased, "This is your turf. Who would dare mess with Ms. Grey?"

With that, she pulled Katniss forward, complaining softly, "Mr. Forbes treats you like you're made of glass. I was hoping you could show me around Velvet City someday. I don't have any friends here, but seeing how Mr. Forbes is, he probably won't agree, afraid I might lose you!"

She playfully bumped Katniss's shoulder, causing Katniss to stumble a bit.

Wren quickly steadied her, her hand brushing Katniss's waist, and gasped in surprise. "Ms. Grey, your waist is so slim and soft. How do you have such a great figure? No wonder Mr. Forbes is crazy about you."

Married women tended to be more open, making Katniss blush. Wren, still very serious, looked at her breasts and lifted her skirt to check her legs. "Is the mark on your neck left by Mr. Forbes?"

The mark on her neck was quite noticeable. Even though the dress had a high collar, a hickey was still faintly visible.

"Wren!" Katniss couldn't take it anymore, pulling Wren into the elevator and quickly pressing the button for the lounge floor. "There are so many people around. Could you please stop embarrassing me?"

Wren blinked and said seriously, "We're all adults here. Everyone gets it. Look at all the guys in the room. Which one isn't checking you out?"

Then she added thoughtfully, "If you were a bit more open, there wouldn't be any room for other women. Mr. Forbes would probably want to lock you up at home and never let you out!"

Wren kept talking, and Katniss couldn't get a word in. She cleared her throat, watching the elevator go up, and finally, it stopped.

"Let's go." She stepped out of the elevator first, hoping the topic was over.

But Wren quickly caught up and asked in a low voice, "Ms. Grey, can you share how you got such a great figure? Did you get your breasts done?"

Katniss's ears turned red, and just as she was about to say 'natural,' she suddenly bumped into someone at the corner.

"Sorry, I wasn't looking." She was walking too fast, feeling like Wren was a 'ghost' she needed to escape. That's how she ended up bumping into someone.

After apologizing and looking up, she saw it was Lila. Her bag had fallen, and its contents were scattered all over the floor.

Lila looked Katniss up and down, finally focusing on her chest. "Nice figure."

Clearly, she had heard Wren's earlier words. "But that's no excuse for bumping into someone. Pick up my things. Is that too much to ask?"

"I'll help her..." Wren felt a bit embarrassed. If she hadn't been chasing Katniss, Katniss wouldn't have bumped into her.

But before she could finish, Katniss interrupted, "No need. I knocked them over, so I should pick them up."

She crouched down and picked up all the expensive cosmetics scattered on the floor, putting them back in Lila's bag. Two items had rolled far away, and Wren helped retrieve them.

"Thank you," Katniss said, then put everything back in the bag, pressing down on her dress as she stood up and handed the bag to Lila. "Miss White, you can check if anything is broken. I'll compensate you."

Lila snatched the bag and peeked inside, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Look at Mr. Moneybags here. Can you afford it? Each of these items costs tens of thousands of dollars. If a couple of them are broken, it could be hundreds of thousands."

Then she zipped up the bag and said, "Oh, no. With Tristan's money, you can afford it. Forget it. If anything's broken, I'll ask Tristan for it later."

Wren couldn't stand her sarcastic tone. But Lila had already swayed away.

"Wren, let's go too," Katniss pulled Wren towards the lounge.

She knew Daniel spoiled Wren like a child, making her unable to bear any slight humiliation. If she didn't pull Wren away quickly, Wren might go up to confront Lila.

Once inside the lounge on the left, she finally let go of Wren, who was still fuming over the incident.

"Why didn't you say anything to her? She was so infuriating!" Wren said.

Katniss sat down on the soft sofa, rubbing her ankle. It had been a while since she wore high heels, and she was tired.

Seeing Wren standing in front of her with her hands on her hips, Katniss smiled and motioned for Wren to sit down. "Why get angry? She's being sarcastic because she has an agenda. She's jealous seeing Tristan and me doing well, so she said those things on purpose. If I get angry, wouldn't I be playing into her hands?"

Wren sat down but didn't seem to take in her explanation. Leaning back on the sofa with her arms crossed, she kept hypothesizing, "What if she really goes to Mr. Forbes to make trouble over this? What if she demands compensation from him? Wouldn't you be angry?"

"Then Tristan will handle it for me, and I have even less reason to be angry." Katniss wasn't afraid of Lila going to Tristan. Because even if Lila did, she wouldn't gain anything.

Wren looked at her for a few seconds and couldn't help but laugh, "You're so confident because you're favored. You're sure Mr. Forbes will protect you. I'm starting to get jealous. Those who like Mr. Forbes must be going crazy with jealousy. By then, who knows how many people will see you as an enemy."

Listening to her analysis, Katniss felt a headache coming on. It made too much sense. So, this was Travis's goal. The more people who set their sights on Tristan, the more people would see her as an enemy.

"Don't worry, your Mr. Forbes will handle everything for you." Wren patted her shoulder, speaking with certainty, "I have faith in Mr. Forbes. He's a real man!"

Katniss couldn't help but laugh, "Wren, you seem really happy."

"Of course, so many women envy me." Wren said proudly, "Daniel never makes me worry about money."

Katniss listened quietly, suddenly starting to imagine if Tristan would also become a strong support for her and their children in the future.

After a short rest, Katniss and Wren prepared to go downstairs. The party was already winding down. People were getting ready to leave, coming to say goodbye to Tristan and Daniel.

"Everyone, today's business seminar wasn't quite satisfying. Let's continue another day. I hope you all understand and bring fewer women when discussing business." Daniel joked, but there was a serious undertone to his words.

Today, everyone who came to chat brought a female companion, subtly trying to curry favor with Tristan. Everyone caught his drift but didn't say anything, readily agreeing to continue another day.

People headed towards the banquet hall doors, and the waitstaff opened all the doors.

"Wait, don't leave." Suddenly, a black figure appeared at the door. Lila, holding a clutch, walked over slowly, with Isla following her from a distance. She had a cold smile on her lips.

Seeing Katniss and Wren just coming out of the elevator, Isla quickly walked towards them. "Katniss, you got Bella arrested. I have to settle this with you!"

Katniss had just stepped out of the elevator and hadn't figured out what was happening when Isla rushed over. She instinctively dodged Isla's hand, causing Isla to miss and knock both her and Wren's bags to the ground.

"Are you crazy? Do you think this is the right place to cause a scene?" Wren angrily pointed at the bags on the ground, "Pick up the bags."

Isla glared at the two bags on the ground, her lips tightening into a thin line as she picked up the bags and roughly shoved them into Katniss's arms before turning on her heel and darting away without a word.

Feeling bewildered, Wren and Katniss picked up their bags. The little incident didn't attract much attention.

Everyone's attention was on Lila. After stopping everyone from leaving, she walked up to Tristan. "Mr. Forbes, I lost something on your premises."

The scent of her perfume wafted over, making Tristan frown unconsciously, "If you lost something, talk to the staff. They will check the surveillance."

"I already did, but they said the surveillance here is broken. Besides being in this hall, I was only on the lounge floor. During the party, there were no staff moving around, only the guests," Lila said confidently.

She was trying to tie her lost item to Tristan, making him responsible. But if the hotel couldn't be responsible, as the host, Tristan indeed had an obligation to help Lila.

"She's trying every way to entangle with Mr. Forbes, not caring about you at all!" Wren pulled Katniss through the crowd and pushed her to Tristan's side.
