Chapter 306 He is the Father and Has the Right to Know

Katniss looked at him indifferently.

It made Nicholas look embarrassed, and he wisely put away his phone.

"Katniss, he's timid, don't glare at him," Saskia rarely defended Nicholas, pulling him behind her, "He's a troublemaker, but only I can hit him. Your glare is terrifying, you're becoming more like Tristan!"

Nicholas quickly hid behind Saskia and muttered, "Saskia, she's so fierce. If we have a son in the future and he marries Evie, I'll make Evie call me dad every day. Let's see if she still dares to give me attitude."

"I'm Evie's Godmother, and you're her Godfather. Even if my son doesn't not married Evie, she still has to call you dad!" Saskia patted Nicholas's head, "Step aside for a moment, I need to talk to her alone."

The kitchen was bustling with activity as they prepared dinner, and Nicholas turned to help.

Katniss held Evie in her arms, her gaze soft as she looked at Evie, completely different from the way she had glared at Nicholas earlier.

"I've wanted to say this for a long time; you can't keep hiding this from Tristan. He's the child's father and has the right to know," Saskia said, observing her expression.

Her movements paused as she played with Evie's little hands, her eyelids lifted slightly, and her long lashes fluttered, "I don't plan to hide it from him forever, but until our relationship is certain, I can't tell him."

"Tristan told us a lot this morning. Since you know Mrs. Forbes had her reasons, can't you try to let go of your grudge?" Saskia moved closer to her, "No one is completely rational. The deeper the love, the more one fears losing it. With the wedding approaching, Tristan is always on edge."

"He's wary of Travis, Eudora, Michael, everyone except you and Adelaide. But in the end, it was with you two that things went wrong, he..."

"You don't need to say more," Katniss interrupted her, "The only reason we remain together is love."

The situation in wealthy families was complicated, and the cheapest thing in such families was love. She couldn't survive on love alone.

Saskia's throat tightened, and her heart sank. If she weren't a member of the Stuart family, she wouldn't have married Nicholas.

If she hadn't gotten involved with Nicholas, the Stuart family wouldn't have recognized her again. For someone like Katniss, who had no background, marrying into a wealthy family meant being pushed out when things went wrong.

"So you're working hard to become stronger. You're already very capable now, but have you thought about what kind of relationship you want to have with Tristan?"

Katniss shook her head, "During my pregnancy, my only thought was to give birth to the child safely. After giving birth, I just wanted to secure my position in White Corporation and become Evie's support. It's too complicated, so I don't want to think about how to handle my relationship with Tristan."

"That's easy to say, take your time to think about it. First, let them recognize each other as father and daughter," Nicholas chimed in again, having found no place to help in the kitchen.

"And then?" Katniss asked him, "Do you think I can still refuse once they recognize each other?"

Given Tristan's persistence with her, once he knew about Evie, he would probably entangle with her for a lifetime.

"If Adelaide knows about Evie, are you sure she won't use legal means to take Evie away to help Tristan against Travis? I've been hurt once because of Tristan, how can I let Evie be used by Adelaide? When I married Tristan, it felt like taking a gamble, hoping I was fortunate enough to find honest people. But I lost. Do you want me to gamble with Evie again?"

Evie was her life, she absolutely couldn't be separated from Evie.

If anyone dared to assure her that Adelaide wouldn't take Evie, she would immediately let Tristan and Evie recognize each other!

Perhaps because Saskia was pregnant, she could empathize with Katniss's fears, "I understand what you mean, but Tristan remains Evie's father. He missed your pregnancy, her birth, and her growth—an unfillable void. So, it's best if you make a decision soon."

"When the Runyon Corporation project is settled, I'll have more free time, and I'll seriously consider this issue then." Katniss replied.

Countless nights, Tristan would appear in her mind, his gaze making her heartache, unable to breathe.

The state of being neither together nor apart was the most painful.

"Adelaide has been staying in the mountains and hasn't come down. But once the Runyon Corporation project is settled, Synergy Global Corporation will be in chaos, and the Forbes family will become chaotic too. Maybe then Adelaide will come back, and I think she'll look for you," Saskia said, knowing Adelaide well.

She would do anything for Tristan, sparing no effort.

She thought Adelaide would still seek Katniss's forgiveness and reconciliation with Tristan.

Whether it was sincere or for the sake of interests, no one could see through it.

While they were talking, Nicholas secretly took a few photos of Evie, added some beauty filters, and sent them to Tristan.

Tristan saw the photos and frowned slightly, feeling a sense of familiarity.

But a kid changed every day, and he couldn't recognize that this was the child he had held abroad.

Nicholas: [Isn't she beautiful? Does she look familiar? Do you feel a sense of closeness? Do you like her?]

Nicholas scratched his head, not daring to reveal a single word.

He didn't dare to bet on whether Adelaide from the Forbes family would take Evie. If that happened, Katniss hating him would be a minor issue; Saskia would skin him alive.

Friends were not as important as a wife, so he could only hint this much!

Tristan: [Are you crazy?]

Tristan's words were filled with exasperation.

Nicholas: [I'm not crazy, but there's something interesting. Think about it yourself.]

Think? Even if Tristan racked his brains, he couldn't imagine that Evie was his daughter.

But the more he looked, the more he liked her, unable to take his eyes off the photo.

In a daze, he felt that Evie even resembled Katniss a bit.

He smiled slightly, thinking he must be going crazy missing Katniss.

After a while, he took a deep breath and put his phone away, looking at Royce.

"Mrs. Forbes refuses to come down from the mountain. She said she'll come back when the Runyon Corporation project is settled and the Forbes family becomes chaotic."

"Tell her to take care of her health," Tristan said with a slight movement of his thin lips.

Meantime, Eudora had no choice but to find Michael again, "I was wrong last time. Please help me talk to Mr. Runyon. Michael, I really need to get this project!"

"Eudora, you know what he wants. How can I help you with that? By sending you to someone else's bed?" Michael poured her a cup of coffee and looked at her seriously, "How could I bear to do that?"

"Can I find another way? I'll make our relationship clear, and Mr. Runyon won't bother me anymore. Then I can find someone to replace me, can't I? Think of a way and help me meet him before they sign the contract tomorrow."

In Michael's villa, Eudora took the initiative to come, rarely showing her usual arrogance.

She would rather bow her head in front of Michael, her pursuer, than be truly ruined by Milan, and she couldn't bear to see Katniss win!

"Katniss is signing the contract with Mr. Runyon tomorrow. Help me meet him before they sign. I'll give it my all, okay?"

She clung to Michael's arm, her tone carrying a hint of pleading.

Michael took a sip of coffee and said, "So, Eudora, why do you have to win? If Synergy Global Corporation falls, it would be your revenge against Travis and Ivy for the harm they caused you. Leaving the Forbes family and coming to me would be just right, wouldn't it?"

Unexpectedly, he shifted the topic, and Eudora hesitated for a few seconds.

"Maybe you have familial feelings for Tristan since you grew up together, but don't forget that he is the reason Travis and Ivy were cruel to you. Without him, you would be a whole and unscathed woman now. You might have been married with children already. Shouldn't you hate Tristan?"

Michael stared at her, not missing any subtle changes in her expression.

After a while, Eudora blurted out, "It's not like that, he's innocent too."

"So?" Michael's hand tightly gripped her jaw, "Was Bella innocent? Didn't she end up becoming a lunatic? Anyone associated with the Forbes family won't have a good ending. Eudora, wake up."

As Michael mentioned Bella, Eudora felt a wave of guilt. She averted her gaze, not daring to look Michael in the eye.

"Eudora, I'm giving you one last chance. Leave the Forbes family. Don't get involved anymore. I'll take you to a place where no one is around. The Astor Corporation is already under someone else's control, and the Astor family is going to fall. It's not hard for us to leave here and start over. Will you come with me?"

Michael forced her to look at him, waiting for her answer.

The Astor Corporation was falling? Eudora's heart sank. She knew about the problems at the Astor Corporation and the external investment, but the control was still in Michael's hands.

Now, it must be that the new investors intend to remove Michael, leaving him no room to fight back.

She couldn't rely on Michael in the future. Once the Milan matter was settled, she would have to sever ties with Michael to avoid trouble.

"Michael, with the Forbes family in this state, how can I leave? And you put the Astor Corporation in danger for me. If I can control Synergy Global Corporation, maybe I can help you recover the Astor Corporation?"

She painted a beautiful future for him, so beautiful that he couldn't bear to shatter it.

He smiled, his hand sliding down her chin, stripping off her clothes.

"Eudora, you're so good to me. Stay tonight. I want you. You can only be mine. Listen to me tonight, okay? Make me feel that you belong to me, and tomorrow I'll take you to see Mr. Runyon."

He leaned back on the sofa, signaling Eudora to take off his clothes.

His eyes were filled with a crazed desire, turning Eudora's reflection into a fleeting shadow.

Eudora felt something was off about him. Sitting beside him, she didn't move, "Michael, you..."

"Don't waste time. It's just one night. I've loved you for so many years. One night isn't enough?" He grabbed her hand and placed it on his waist, "Undress."

So, he was just overwhelmed with desire?

Eudora, relieved, still felt a bit uneasy but ultimately let him take the lead.
