Chapter 237 Mr. Forbes is Very Busy
"Let's roll," Katniss said to Aaron with a quick side-eye, then strolled in without a hint of emotion.
Standing in front of Tristan, she caught a whiff of his familiar scent, a subtle fragrance that lingered around her.
But her face stayed icy, her ponytail loose and draped over her shoulder as she watched the floors go by.
She didn't even glance his way.
Tristan's eyes darkened a bit, and Aaron, picking up on the vibe, kept an eye on him, making Tristan a bit uneasy.
When the elevator doors slid open, Katniss was the first to step out, striding quickly in her flats. As she exited the apartment door, she spotted Eudora. "Katniss, I heard from Tristan that Aaron's registering at his new school today. I'll tag along."
She wasn't quite sure why Tristan suddenly decided she should take Aaron to school today.
But since Tristan had spoken, she had to go along with it.
Tristan pulled out his car keys from his pocket. "Take my car."
He unlocked the car door, and Eudora motioned for Aaron to hop in.
Eudora and Aaron got in the car without a fuss.
They both looked at Katniss, who was still standing there.
Katniss opened her bag, pulled out two documents, and handed them to Eudora through the window.
"Since you're taking him, I don't need to go. These are some important notes and procedures for his enrollment. Just follow these." After handing over the documents, she took a couple of steps back and waved at them. "Take care, goodbye."
Eudora and Aaron looked at Katniss, puzzled.
Tristan's face suddenly darkened.
"Katniss, Aaron's been staying with you for a while, causing you a lot of trouble. Since you planned to go today, let's go together. After we're done, I'll treat you to lunch," Eudora tried to smooth things over.
Katniss smiled. "No need to be so formal with me. Besides, Mr. Forbes is very busy. Where would he find the time for lunch? You guys go quickly and don't mess up his schedule. I also have things to do. Goodbye."
She glanced at Tristan, but the smile on her face vanished in an instant.
She let out a light snort, turned around, and left.
Without looking back, her quick change in demeanor and expression left Tristan stunned.
He didn't realize Katniss had such a rebellious streak!
"I knew it, you made Katniss mad," Aaron said gloomily.
Last night, it was really late when Katniss suddenly went to sleep next door, and shortly after, Tristan climbed in through the window.
Even though he was young, he wasn't dumb!
He could tell something was up."Tristan, did you and Katniss have a fight?" Eudora asked as she got out of the car again. "How about I take Aaron to register, and you go find her?"
"Let Ryan take you," Tristan said, turning around to call Ryan. After waiting for about ten minutes, Ryan showed up and took Eudora and Aaron to register.
Tristan didn't chase after Katniss. She was probably heading to the educational institution, specifically to crowded places. Even if he went, he couldn't fix the problem.
He turned around, got into the car, and drove off. He called Nicholas, "I need to see her tonight. Make it happen."
Nicholas had just picked up Saskia. Hearing this, he knew Tristan had been turned down last night.
He was even more amused but had to keep it cool in front of Saskia. After agreeing a few times, he hung up the phone.
"Take me to Katniss's place," Saskia said while texting Katniss.
Without looking up, Nicholas replied, "She's avoiding Tristan right now, not at home. I don't know where to find her. How about you ask her out? We can all meet tonight."
Saskia looked at the unsent message and turned to ask, "All? With whom?"
"Of course, you and me, plus Katniss and Tristan," Nicholas said like it was no big deal.
Without thinking, Saskia refused, "Why include Tristan? He made Katniss cry. How does he have the nerve to see her?"
Nicholas thought to himself that Tristan didn't actually make her cry.
Suddenly feeling he had exaggerated the situation, Nicholas was momentarily speechless.
After a bit, he said, "Yeah, he was out of line. Tonight, we'll make him apologize to Katniss! Even if they part ways today, Tristan owes her an apology!"
"That's true," Saskia said thoughtfully. "Alright, you set it up for tonight. I'll handle Katniss."
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of an apartment.
Saskia glanced outside and got annoyed, "Why did you bring me to your place?"
"You'll stay here for a few days. Katniss's place is full. I've already told my dad about breaking off the engagement with Isla, and he agreed because the Tudor family is in trouble."
Nicholas was actually relieved that the Tudor family was in trouble at this time. Otherwise, breaking off the engagement with Isla wouldn't have been so easy.
Hearing this, Saskia asked, "What kind of trouble?"
"I looked into it, and it's Tristan behind it. Probably because Isla provoked Katniss again. How could he stand anyone targeting Katniss?"
Nicholas's guess was spot on.
Saskia reluctantly entered Nicholas's villa, feeling something was off.Under Nicholas's persuasion, Saskia didn't contact Katniss all day, planning to call her out for a gathering in the evening.
So, Katniss was completely unaware that Saskia had come to Velvet City.
Even though Katniss didn't go with Aaron to register at school, Aaron kept her updated on the registration process remotely.
Two hours after arriving at the school, Aaron reported that neither she nor Tristan showed up, and Eudora didn't even want to have lunch with him.
So, they parted ways at the school gate, and Ryan took him straight home.
Tristan didn't go either? Katniss raised an eyebrow and told Aaron to keep reviewing his high school courses at home and to enjoy the last two days before school started.
She started customizing courses for her three students. She had experience with the two middle schoolers, but the high schooler required some serious research.
She was busy at the educational institution all day, and as evening approached, Saskia called.
"I'm in Velvet City," she announced, dropping a bombshell.
Katniss was stunned for a few seconds before speaking, "Are you with Nicholas? Are you coming back to Velvet City to get married?"
"You're overthinking it. He'll talk about it after breaking off the engagement with Isla," Saskia said without hesitation. "I heard you had a conflict with Tristan, and I was worried, so I came back to check on you."
"Is such a small matter worth you coming back for?" Katniss was surprised that the reason for her return was herself. "If I couldn't handle it, I'd run back to Nightfall City."
That made sense. Saskia belatedly realized that the strange feeling was because she had fallen for Nicholas's trick!
"Forget it. Let's not talk about it. Where are you? I'll come to find you." After all, she had come back for her, so Katniss had to meet Saskia.
"I'm at Nicholas's place. How about we meet at D.V.?" Saskia suggested.
Katniss agreed, hung up the phone, packed her materials, and headed straight to D.V.
As soon as Saskia hung up, Nicholas came over. "Did you set it up? Is she coming?"
"She's coming." Saskia tossed her phone aside, grabbed Nicholas's hair, pinned him on the bed, and straddled him. "You lied to me? Katniss didn't cry at all. What's going on between her and Tristan?"
Nicholas winced in pain, letting her sit on his waist. He let out a muffled groan, feeling the warmth from her body, and his eyes darkened a bit. "Everything is Tristan's fault. Katniss didn't cry, but she was really mad and blocked Tristan. I lied to you because I missed you. Who told you, heartless, not to come back with me?"The nature of the lie was terrible, but his straightforward words moved Saskia.
Saskia impatiently pushed against his chest. "Stop making those grand excuses. You were just lying to me!"
"I only lie to get closer to you. I admit that. Any lie that brings me closer to you, I'll tell," Nicholas said confidently, his hands on Saskia's waist, his voice suddenly hoarse. "I'll tell you this, I've been thinking about you all day. If you stay on top of me for another minute, we'll definitely be late for the appointment tonight. Or we might not even make it."
Saskia got off him and straightened her disheveled shirt, her ears turning red, but her face remained calm. "Jerk, get up, let's go!"
Nicholas calmed his breathing, waited for his pants to return to normal, then got up and followed Saskia.
At the entrance of the D.V. club, it was just past five, and the sky was still bright.
There weren't many people around. Katniss got out of the car, wearing a sky-blue floral dress, her loose ponytail now styled into a bun.
It added a touch of playfulness and made her look more efficient.
She didn't notice that a few flamboyantly dressed women at the entrance of the D.V. club whispered to each other as soon as they saw her.
After she entered the club, a waiter immediately led her upstairs.
The women in the corner exchanged malicious glances and followed her.
But before they could take a few steps, two men in suits blocked their way.
"What do you want?" the leading woman asked, displeased at the bodyguards' sudden appearance.
"We are under Mr. Forbes's orders to keep any ill-intentioned people away from Miss Grey," the bodyguard spoke bluntly and without mercy. "Please stay away from Miss Grey."
The leading woman sneered, "Who's following Katniss? We're going to our private room upstairs. Is that not allowed?"
The bodyguard remained unmoved. "We don't hit women, but if you insist on causing trouble, we won't be polite."
The straightforward and rough manner of the bodyguards made the women hesitate.
Tristan really was protective of Katniss!
But they wanted to see how long he could keep this up.
Katniss was unaware of what happened next. She only knew that Saskia had tricked her.
Pushing the door open, she saw the man standing by the window, shrouded in smoke. Who else could it be but Tristan?
In a white shirt and black trousers, he turned to look at her, the veins on his neck standing out, exuding a wild intensity.
