Chapter 388 Alive, I Want to See Him. Dead, I Want to See His Body

Before Sophia could respond, Katniss had already quickly run to the door.

Seeing Emory outside, her breath involuntarily paused.

Her hand tightened around the doorknob, and she asked, "What's up?"

"Katniss..." Emory started but couldn't continue.

The eye contact and the stalemate in conversation created a tense atmosphere.

"Did Tristan go on a business trip... or did he go to find Duke?"

Although she used a questioning tone, there was no doubt in her expression or demeanor.

'She is stronger than you think, and more fragile than you imagine.'

Tristan's words flashed in Emory's mind, making him understand a bit. He nodded with difficulty.

"Where is he? Did he catch Duke?"

"He planted a bomb on Duke's helicopter. Duke and a few of his men were blown to pieces." Emory paused, wanting to say more but unable to.

Katniss suddenly said, "I knew it, he's the best. As for the details... let him tell me himself."

"Stop deceiving yourself." Emory blocked the door as she tried to close it. "Do you want to wait in vain, or do you want to hear what I have to say?"

Katniss's smile instantly disappeared. She turned and went inside, the meaning clear.

She had Sophia take Evie upstairs before sitting opposite Emory. "I don't want to know the details. I just want to know, where is he?"

Emory frowned and hastily recounted the events.

Tristan arrived in the neighboring city and prepared to replace one of Duke's bodyguards, but Duke was highly vigilant and announced at the last minute that he would only take two of his most trusted bodyguards.

To ensure Katniss had no future worries, he leaped forward and grabbed the landing gear just as the plane took off.

Seeing Tristan being lifted into the air, Duke said, "I really should have taken you in, what a pity."

Tristan, hanging in mid-air, supported himself with his arm strength, surrounded by the howling wind that stung his face.

The thin air made it difficult to breathe, and he was losing strength bit by bit.

He could barely hold on, let alone make any moves, which already took all his strength.

But thinking of Katniss and Evie, his eyes were full of determination.

He struggled to take out the bomb he had prepared and attach it to the landing gear.

Seeing his actions, Duke's expression changed. "Tristan, what are you trying to do?"

Tristan didn't answer. He fixed the bomb as quickly as he could, ignoring the gun Duke had already drawn.

Once everything was set, he let go of the landing gear, allowing his body to fall heavily, then be blown upward, and finally plummet unimpeded.

The plane exploded in a burst of sparks, reflected in his eyes.

Under the plane's powerful thrust, he became a tiny black dot, disappearing into the sea!

Katniss felt a chill all over, her face pale.

Emory looked at her and gritted his teeth to say the final words, "He fell into the sea, his body lost."

That night, he was clearly saying goodbye, but she thought it was just because they hadn't been apart since reconciling, so he was clingy.

Tristan had gambled his life to ensure the safety of her and their daughter.

Tears instantly filled Katniss's eyes, making it hard for her to breathe.

It seemed that every breath carried the taste of blood, Tristan's blood.

Emory looked at Katniss, wanting to comfort her but not knowing how.

It was all his fault.

If he had discovered the problem from the start and not been deceived, how could things have turned out this way? "Katniss..."

"Search."

The word was so light it seemed like a breeze, making Emory wonder if he had misheard. "What did you say?"

Katniss clenched her hands, her neatly trimmed nails digging into her palms, sticky with blood, but her voice was clear. "Organize a rescue team, search the sea for him."

"Even though he fell into the sea, the force of the explosion, hitting the water, is no different from hitting the ground..."

"Did you see his body?"

Emory was speechless.

But that was the sea, not a pond or a stream; it was bottomless!

But even if he were alive now, what could be done?

Her face was pale, her figure thin, her words light as a breeze, yet incredibly firm.

"Alive, I want to see him. Dead, I want to see his body."

Katniss used all her available resources to arrange a sea search.

Emory and Nicholas also invested a lot of money and effort into the task.

But finding someone in the sea was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

How could Katniss not understand?

But if she didn't search and just believed Tristan was dead, what meaning would her life have?

Now, she was in a daze every day, unable to focus on the company's operations.

Every day, she just held Evie and stared blankly, sitting for hours.

"Katniss, you haven't eaten properly in a long time. I made some oatmeal. Please eat a little, okay?" Sophia's voice was full of tears.

"Mom, I'm not hungry."

Katniss forced a smile that was worse than crying. "Don't worry about me, go rest."

Sophia looked at Katniss, both heartbroken and helpless, and could only take better care of Evie.

Three months later, the best rescue time had long passed, and the rescue teams had left.

The only ones left were the private salvage teams Katniss had hired, continuing to work on the sea.

Recently, Katniss had exhausted all her savings, busy with salvage operations and work, working day and night.

The high-intensity work left her little time to think about Tristan and provided more funds for advanced equipment to search for him.

One morning, while playing with Evie, she caught a glimpse of a familiar profile on Sophia's phone.

"Mom, what are you looking at?"

The sudden voice startled Sophia, almost making her drop the phone.

She waved her hand and held the phone up to Katniss. "It's a missing person video. This person has been in the hospital for a long time..."

Sophia's rambling didn't catch Katniss's attention. All her focus was on the familiar profile that suddenly appeared in the video.

She took the phone, paused the video, and stared at the slightly blurry profile.

The tight jawline, the high nose bridge.

Even just a profile could make one imagine how stunning the face would be when turned around.

Suppressing her excitement, Katniss immediately called Ryan. "Find the hospital where this video was shot, then book a ticket. I'm going there."

"Ms. Grey, why are you suddenly going to a hospital?"

She took a deep breath, replayed the video, paused at a certain moment, and stared at the profile that appeared for a few seconds, softly saying,

"Tristan is waiting for me there. I'm going to find him."
