Chapter 407 If There's No Hope, Send to the Morgue
Emory's expression changed. "Go home with you?"
"Go home with me for what?" Katniss asked with amusement. "I brought him back because there's no need for him to hide in that place without seeing the light of day. Don't overthink it. I'll leave him to you guys. If he can be saved, send him to the hospital. If not, send him to the morgue."
With that, she turned and strode away.
Tristan, who came over later, heard her words and was amused despite himself.
She was angry, but not to the point of no return.
"You can still laugh?" Emory said. "With her attitude, I don't dare to leave you in her hands. I'm afraid she'll send you straight to the morgue and burn you."
"Didn't the doctor say before that Tristan should receive regular check-ups and treatment in the hospital?" Nicholas said. "Since he's back, let's go straight to the hospital."
Previously, Tristan had received treatment, but the frequency of body checks wasn't high enough to detect abnormalities in time.
The two of them took him to the hospital overnight and transferred the doctor responsible for him to Velvet City Hospital to take full charge.
Sophia knew about Katniss's return and had been waiting for her.
Evie, who hadn't seen Sophia for a long time, was particularly happy and 'communicated' with her without any shyness.
"Has Tristan come back?" Sophia asked eagerly after comforting Evie for a while.
Katniss, while packing her and Evie's things, said, "He's back, probably at the hospital."
Sophia was taken aback, "The hospital? Has he regained his memory? Is there something else wrong with his body?"
"Nothing serious, don't worry." Katniss took Evie and asked, "How's Matilda doing?"
"She met George's father. Odette's condition doesn't look good. Mr. Brian Russell also thinks the kids should make their own decisions and not be delayed." Sophia, who had been tense about this matter, was now calm, indicating her agreement.
Odette had been taken back to the Russell Villa, where she was being cared for by dedicated staff.
Brian suggested that Matilda and George also move back, so they could be there in case anything happened to Odette.
"So Matilda moved to the Russell Villa?" Katniss was pleased; finally some good news.
"Yes, she moved." Sophia smiled, "You guys are always in some kind of trouble. When will I stop worrying about you?"
Katniss smiled, "You can stop now. As long as Evie and I are fine, don't worry about anyone else."
"If Tristan doesn't get better, can you really be okay? Don't pretend to be strong. Although life goes on, you can open up to me. If you're sad, I'll hug you. If you want to cry, just cry." Sophia brushed Katniss's hair aside, "You've lost so much weight. Can you really let go?"
She couldn't let go, but she had found another way to hold on without compromising herself.
Life seemed to return to the way it was before. In the morning, she left Evie with Sophia and drove to White Corporation.
At the traffic light, the glaring morning sun shone into the car. She stepped on the brake, put on her sunglasses, and answered Ryan's call.
Ryan was temporarily left in the small village to oversee the project. He could only return once everything was in place and construction began.
He reported some project details.
"Got it," Katniss responded, adding, "Find out which hospital Tristan is in and get his medical report. I want to know what's wrong with him."
Even if Tristan had lost a leg and was really disabled, he wouldn't have staged such a dramatic memory loss, making her so angry.
So, the situation might be more serious and worrying than she thought.
But Nicholas and Emory refused to tell her, so she had to find out herself.
"Mr. Forbes went back?" Ryan was taken aback. "Then who do I hang out with here?"
He had agreed to stay because Tristan was in the village.
Whether it was memory loss or something else, at least there was someone he knew.
"He wouldn't hang out with you even if he stayed," Katniss said irritably and hung up.
After entering White Corporation, she went into the conference room for a six-hour meeting.
Although she initially took on the project because of Tristan, it wasn't a blind investment.
The visible profits were substantial, and after Samuel explained the inspection results, the shareholders unanimously approved.
After everyone agreed on the detailed follow-up plans, the meeting adjourned.
Katniss checked Ryan's messages on her phone as she walked out.
He had found out which hospital Tristan was in and learned that an internationally renowned doctor had come to the hospital last night specifically for Tristan.
However, Tristan's specific condition was highly confidential, known only to Tristan, the doctor, Emory, and Nicholas.
There was no way to find out.
Hearing this, Katniss pursed her lips and decisively called Saskia.
"You still remember to call me?" Saskia was very displeased. "Not only did you ignore me, but Tristan also took Nicholas away. He didn't even make it back for my son's birthday party."
Katniss replied, "So, I'm here to apologize. I can handle it, but you shouldn't let Nicholas off easily. Do you want to teach him a lesson?"
"Sounds like you have a good idea?" Saskia was intrigued. "He came back last night and left again this morning. Besides almost breaking my leg in bed, he didn't even give me an explanation. Today, I'm going to make him pay."
Katniss, having achieved her goal, said cheerfully, "Let's go to Starlight Nightclub tonight. I'll help you vent."
Saskia immediately agreed, "Deal."
Katniss didn't even have time to eat. She worked all afternoon and headed straight to Starlight Nightclub in the evening.
The entrance was bustling with people. After giving the name of the private room Saskia had reserved, she was led in by a waiter.
Inside, Saskia seemed to have regained her former vitality.
She had let her short hair grow out and tied it into a ponytail, with a more maternal glow."Nicholas said he'll be here in ten minutes." Saskia greeted her, linking arms and sitting down. "You have to help me vent properly."
"Don't worry." Katniss checked her watch. "I've prepared something. It should be here soon."
As soon as she finished speaking, the door opened, and several waiters came in with fruit platters, drinks, and a whip, then left.
Saskia muttered, "This whip looks painful."
Katniss said, "You don't have to use it. Drinking can substitute. One drink for one whip."
She didn't believe that after enough drinks, Nicholas wouldn't spill the beans.
