Chapter 289 I Will Feel Sad When I See Him

Tristan didn't need to overthink to guess what Eudora was like in front of Travis and Ivy.

Eudora felt deeply disheartened, "If I had ever defied him, would I still be alive today? If you feel wronged for helping Tristan, we won't force you. But if you have ulterior motives and still want us to understand, sympathize, or even be grateful to you, then you're just doing immoral things while pretending to be a good person."

Adelaide got straight to the point, "You want to marry Tristan? You love him? There's nothing wrong with that, but your mistake is pretending to be a victim to hide your ugly heart, knowing he doesn't love you. True love asks for nothing in return."

"Asks for nothing in return?" Eudora seemed to hear a joke, "Is it wrong for me to fight for what I like?"

"Then is it wrong for him to dislike what he doesn't like?" Adelaide bluntly retorted.

For a moment, Eudora was speechless.

The restaurant was filled with the aroma of delicious food, mixed with the faint scent of smoke from Tristan's thin lips.

Endless sarcasm spread, along with the growing mockery and disgust on Tristan's cold face.

All of this made Eudora's heart ache.

"You're right." After a long time, she said, then added, "But in a wealthy family, most people can't help themselves. If you want to keep Synergy Global Corporation and defeat Travis, only I can help you!"

The cigarette in Tristan's fingers had accumulated a long ash, which fell to the ground as he threw the cigarette butt into the trash can.

He stood up with one hand in his pocket, the chair making an especially harsh noise.

"I'll say it one last time, I don't want Synergy Global Corporation. If he has the ability, he can take it himself."

With that, he turned and walked out, his back exuding a lazy, noble yet decadent air.

"Tristan, is it worth it for a woman?" Eudora suddenly stood up and walked over to block him, "Without Katniss, won't you even care the Forbes family? Won't you care about Grandma?"

Adelaide quickly said, "I don't need him to care. I won't live for more than two years, and I can't help him or drag him down."

"And what about me? I've worked hard in the Forbes family for so many years." Eudora looked heartbroken again, "I've endured and stayed all for you!"

"No one asked you to stay." Tristan avoided her hand reaching out to grab him with disgust.

Eudora had been at The Forbes Mansion for almost twenty years, becoming intimately familiar with everything here.

But now, every inch of this place felt especially unfamiliar because of Tristan's disgust for her.

Impossible, she had devoted herself to Tristan; it couldn't have come to this!

"Fine, Tristan, one day you'll regret this! I'll be waiting for the day you come back to me!"

With that, she turned and stormed out.

Her harsh words echoed in the large villa.

Tristan didn't care. His phone suddenly rang in his pocket. He glanced down and saw a simple line of text, his eyes narrowing sharply.

The message: [Katniss is leaving the country tomorrow.]

Adelaide walked over trembling, her words cautious, "I know you blame me, but are you really not going to take Synergy Global Corporation?"

He still remained silent.

She caught sight of the line of text on his screen, her eyes widening, "She's leaving? Is she still unable to let go of that matter?"

Tristan put away his phone, his tall and straight figure shrouded by the crystal chandelier above.

His lowered eyes couldn't hide the disappointment in them. After a while, he said, "She'll come back."

Then he walked away slowly.

In the empty villa, with a table full of food, Adelaide's hunched figure wavered for a moment.

Royce quickly came over to support her, "Mrs. Forbes, come sit down. The doctor said you shouldn't worry!"

"What am I hoping for?" Adelaide's eyes were filled with tears, "Tristan blames me, he just doesn't say it. My own grandson blames me, let alone Katniss, who has nothing to do with me and has suffered so much. What did she mean by the message she sent me that day?"

"No matter what, Ms. Grey hasn't affected your plans. Whether she's cooperating or has really given up, Mr. Forbes will do as you wish." Royce tried to comfort her.

Tears streamed down Adelaide's face, her throat tightening as she waved her hand, her face full of regret.

The early spring night was a bit chilly, the night wind sweeping through the tall buildings.

Under the streetlights, the smoke just exhaled from Tristan's thin lips was instantly blown away. He stared intently at the lit window.

He could vaguely see Katniss's figure moving. It was already very late; she might be packing her luggage.

It would only take a minute to go upstairs and knock on that door to see her.

He couldn't remember how long it had been since they last met, nor how many sleepless nights he had endured.

He often pictured her, recalling every smile and frown she ever made.

Clearly unforgettable, yet it seemed so distant.

After a long time, he couldn't resist and took out his phone to dial that familiar number.

The phone rang for a long time before she answered. He heard the coldness in it.

"What's up?"

"I'm downstairs," Tristan's voice sounded distant, carried away by the wind.

Her grip on the phone tightened, her fingertips turning white. The white curtain separated everything outside.

She took a deep breath and quickly said, "I don't want to see you. Goodbye."

As she hung up the phone, tears fell along with the motion.

The darkened screen reflected her already red eyes.

She stood there for a long time, staring at the window, calming her breath before decisively walking over to draw the curtains.

She felt the baby move twice. She looked down and gently patted her stomach.

"You want to see him? Heartless, I've carried you for so long, don't you know seeing him would make me sad? It's not safe. We won't see him. I have to ensure your safety, understand?"

She packed the last two pieces of clothing and then turned off the light.

As the light disappeared, the light in Tristan's eyes also vanished. He suddenly felt the world had turned dark.

After finishing the cigarette in his pocket, he stood by the lamppost for a long time, the night wind chilling his body.

He caught a glimpse of a few sneaky figures out of the corner of his eye. He stomped out the cigarette butt on the ground and turned to get into his car.

The roar of the engine filled the air as the car sped out of the neighborhood.

After some time, he suddenly slammed on the brakes, forcing the speeding van behind him to stop, nearly crashing into the roadside barrier.

He got out of the car, took a baseball bat from the trunk, and pulled the person out of the van, hitting them on the arm.

"Mr. Tristan Forbes, please have mercy, we're just following orders!"

He opened the back door, and the strong men inside the van, shrank in fear.

"Following orders? Whose orders?" Tristan pressed the bat against the head of the man on the edge.

With a forceful strike, the man would be dead, cold sweat pouring down his face, "It was Mr. Travis Forbes who ordered us to do this. He told us to keep an eye on you."

"I don't like being watched." Tristan's thin lips curled slightly, the bat moving down to press against the man's chest, "Either your hands work for me, or I'll cripple them!"

The driver lay on the ground, clutching his arm and wailing, the sound particularly terrifying at night.

They were all scared stiff by Tristan. With his back to the lamplight, he looked like a grim reaper from hell, coming to claim lives!

"We'll work for you." The leader spoke first, and the others quickly nodded in agreement.

Tristan threw the bat into the van, "I want to see your actions within half an hour."

The leader hesitated, "We don't know where Mr. Travis Forbes lives."

"I'll take you there." Tristan got back into his car, and the men in the van helped the injured driver into the back seat, following Tristan's car.

Outside Travis's villa, a few bodyguards were no match for the men from the van, who quickly subdued them.

The bright moonlight cast shadows of the trees on Tristan's face. He leaned against the car, smoking a cigarette he had taken from the car.

The nicotine helped ease his overwhelming longing but couldn't suppress his anger.

From inside the villa came the sounds of a man's screams and a woman's cries.

It lasted for a while before the men came out, their bats stained with blood.

The leader handed the bat to Tristan, "Mr. Tristan Forbes, we've finished."

"Get lost." Tristan had no interest in hearing Travis's cries, telling them to take the bat and dispose of it, then got into his car and left.

At the airport, before turning off her phone, Katniss saw a news article.

Someone had broken into Travis's residence at night, beating him so badly he was hospitalized, with one eye's vision likely affected.

Reporters had waited at Synergy Global Corporation to ask Tristan for his thoughts on the matter.

On camera, Tristan's eyes were bloodshot, his facial features cold and sharp.

"Mr. Tristan Forbes, what do you think about your father Mr. Travis Travis being injured? Do you know who did it?"

Tristan paused, then calmly said, "If you insist on watching others, isn't it only natural that your own vision gets damaged?"

With a mix of sarcasm and warning in his tone, he strode into the company.

A short video clip couldn't hide Tristan's inherent domineering aura. Despite people saying he was in decline, that aura remained undiminished.

Katniss put her phone on airplane mode, finished checking in her luggage with Sophia, and boarded the plane under Matilda's reluctant gaze.

After a twelve-hour flight, they landed in the capital of Aquilonia.

White Corporation's branch here wasn't very strong but had great potential for development.

A lot of money had been invested, and the person in charge here didn't get involved in White Corporation's disputes.

They only recognized White Corporation's appointment letter, willing to work with capable people.

They were taken aback when they realized the new person in charge was a pregnant woman. All turned to Katniss.

"Are you the new person sent by White Corporation?"

Katniss nodded slightly, politely extending her hand, "Yes, I'm pleased to join you."
