Chapter 433 I Like to Play Challenges
Emory, feeling a huge blow, resisted the urge to throw him out of the house and dragged him to the sofa to watch a movie.
After successfully loading, it was a video recording.
In a dimly lit room, Lucas sat on a chair, adjusted the camera, and waved at them with a smile.
"My dear friends, long time no see." He seemed to be doing well, with a smile in his bright blue eyes.
"Shameless, who is your friend?" Emory muttered to the air.
On the screen, Lucas continued talking to himself, "You must have guessed it. The last drug in your body was placed by me. The people you captured were actually a bunch of useless individuals. The real core stuff is with me."
He held a small vial similar to the last one, shook it twice, and the transparent liquid inside mixed with many bubbles slowly rising.
"What if I told you, this is the antidote. Would you believe it?" Lucas smiled exaggeratedly and wickedly.
Emory's eyes flashed, almost standing up in excitement.
Nicholas, however, calmly said, "What trick is he trying to play again? Who can be sure that the bottle isn't just water this time?"
One sentence extinguished Emory's burning passion.
Tristan calmly watched Lucas continue his charade on the screen. "Although I disdain your Forbes family's wealth, my father did die at your hands. If I don't vent this anger, I will be a useless son. However, I don't like making things difficult for people; I like challenges and dangerous things."
He shook the small vial twice, then found a thin string, tied it, and called in a Bullmastiff, tying it around the dog's neck.
"So, do you have the confidence to get the item off it?" Lucas patted the Bullmastiff's head and smiled mischievously.
Finally, he said very seriously, "The drug I injected you with was developed by me. Unlike other things, it has an antidote. After all, I am a very considerate person. As long as you inject this and can survive, you will definitely recover to your previous state. However, whether you can survive and whether your wife and child can endure until then is unknown. It's a test of human nature. Do you dare to come?"
After speaking, laughter echoed in the room from the video.
The next second, the screen suddenly went black.
"Maybe the TV got sick of his laughter and stopped working." Emory stood up, took the USB drive, and threw it on the ground.
Nicholas ignored his outburst and directly asked Tristan, "Do you think the drug is real? What does he mean by testing human nature?"
Tristan sat up straight, his thin lips slightly parted. "It's real, but it won't be easy to fully recover."
"Never mind that, let's find that dog first." Emory was a bit anxious. "Just get a few police officers to handle it, but who knows where the dog is?"
"Do you think Lucas is as unreliable as you think?" Tristan pondered for a moment and said, "He will definitely find a way to get that Bullmastiff to the police, and the news will eventually reach us."
The antidote must be very precious, especially now that the island's laboratory had been sealed.
Lucas probably only had one dose.
So Lucas must ensure that the antidote reached Tristan.
Then he would wait to see if Tristan dared to inject the antidote.
And everything that happened after the injection would be under Lucas's observation.
"Go, contact the police, and transport any Bullmastiff that comes in immediately, ensuring the safety of the drug." Tristan stood up, but fell back onto the sofa unsteadily.
Emory and Nicholas instinctively wanted to rush over but were stopped by his raised hand.
He looked down at his legs; half of his foot had been numb for a long time, and the numbness was spreading upwards.
If he couldn't get the antidote soon, walking might become very difficult.
"Go find a doctor, give me an injection. I need to make sure I can hold Katniss and get in the car smoothly tomorrow, and get through the whole wedding. If I can't give her a complete me, at least I can give her a complete wedding."
Emory instinctively refused. "The doctor said, unless absolutely necessary, don't take that injection. It will accelerate your condition and affect the efficacy of other drugs!"
"My condition can't get any worse, and the antidote is about to be in hand anyway." Tristan massaged his knee and calf, gradually regaining feeling after a while.
He stood up, saw a car speeding by the roadside through the window.
It was Katniss's car.
He walked straight to the door. "Leave the matters to you. Have the doctor come after midnight. I'll be back then."
Just then, Matilda arrived, and Sophia temporarily handed Evie to her.
When the two returned, Evie had already been coaxed to sleep.
"Katniss, Mom, where did you go in such a hurry?" Matilda got up and walked to the entrance to greet them.
As soon as she entered, Sophia handed her the child and hurried out without explaining.
Sophia waved her hand. "It's nothing. Didn't you buy a gift for your sister? Bring it over and show her."
She changed the subject, planning to keep Katniss's background a secret.
Matilda brought a card and a set of wedding bedding she made herself.
"You don't lack money, and I really didn't know what to buy for you, so I made this. People say that a mother should sew the wedding quilt for her daughter, but I made this quilt under our mom's guidance. In the future, don't always rush to the front. I can handle things too."
She patted the quilt in the bag and smiled at Katniss, "I hope that no matter what happens in the future, you can tell us first and not bear it alone."
A warm feeling surged in Katniss's heart.
As far back as she could remember, Sophia and Matilda had given her endless warmth.
She truly treated them as family.
She could feel that they used to have a sense of gratitude and guilt towards her, even trying their best not to burden her.
But now, they could speak to her openly.
"Okay." She smiled, took the quilt, and pressed her lips to suppress her complex emotions.
She was not good at such sentimental scenes, almost shedding tears.
Tristan pushed the door open, interrupting the scene.
She turned around and patted the quilt. "Matilda made it. Let's go upstairs and change it."
"Okay." Tristan nodded to Matilda and Sophia, then followed Katniss upstairs.
As soon as they entered the room, Katniss unpacked the quilt and placed it on the bed, then turned to ask him, "Any news from Lucas? Can we get the antidote from him?"
