When I got to the courtyard, Nicholas was arriving just as I was. I could see Jasper walking with three other warriors and Doris behind them. His face was serious and stoic.


"Alpha." Nicholas bowed his head in greeting.

"You look well." I wanted to kill him instantly but I couldn't. I turned my attention to Jasper and his company.

"Jasper, I am sure you are aware of what's going on right now? I don't need to explain anything, do I?"

"No, Alpha. I was informed of everything on the way."

"Good."

I turned to Nicholas who was looking at me curiously.

"Nicholas Mark, you are found guilty of conspiring to kill your Alpha and invade the Pack. You are also charged with attempted murder against your Luna, arrest him." The guards sprung into action and held his arms.

"What? That's crazy, I would never." His eyes went wide.

"I hate liars, Nicholas. Do yourself a favor and refrain from something that will piss me off. I know the truth, your sister told me everything." He was shocked and his eyes turned to fury as he looked at his sister.

"You traitor! I trusted you!"

"And I trusted you, yet you tried to take my own back from me? I gave you everything you have now, Nicholas."

"No, I worked for everything I have!"

"You would have gotten nowhere without my pull, Nicholas. I made you and now I am going to break you. I will deal with you when the time comes but for now, you can rot behind the cell for all I care. Take him away.

As they dragged him away and onlookers watched in shock, he struggled against their hold.

"You don't deserve to be Alpha! The title is mine! Just wait, I am going to put on six feet, Bernard. Just wait and see.

I turned away and started walking back to my house with Jasper and Doris. Nicholas wasn't the main concern, I had a war coming my way and I needed to prepare. I am without a Beta and had two Alphas on my tail. I need to make some urgent calls and find a way to get out of this without everything turning into a bloodbath.

I looked over my shoulder, Jasper who was following behind me.

"Jasper?" He turned his attention to me.

"Yes, Alpha."

"You are now my new Beta."

He stood opposite me, in front of me with a pocket knife. He raised his hand and presented it to me. I sliced his palm and did the same with mine. We shook hands together, mixing our blood.

"I, Bernard Gorge Joseph do hereby make you Jasper Timothy, the new Beta of the Crescent Wolf Pack. Do you swear to uphold the principles of this Pack and to abide by the laws set by your Alpha? Do you promise to lead with honor, compassion, and understanding? Do you swear to pledge your undying allegiance to your Alpha from this day till your last?"

"I do." He puffed out his chest.

I felt the familiar tingles course through my blood as the power of the Beta transferred to him.

"Congratulations, Beta Jasper." I smiled.

"Thank you, Alpha. I don't know how I will ever thank you for giving me this opportunity. I promise I will not let you down."

I knew he wouldn't, Jasper had tried to warn me about Nicholas but I had been the one who chose not to listen. He had been a good warrior over the years and that was why I promoted him to captain. He deserves this new role.

"I know you won't, Jasper. I just need you to stay loyal to me and lead with your head and your heart."

"I will do that."

I patted him on the back and removed my bloodied hand from his. I wiped it with the napkins.

"I am sure Doris has told you the majority of what is going on?"

"Yes, she has. What is the plan now that you have detained Nicholas."

"I need answers from Richard, Ronald is the devil, I know and I could figure him out but Richard is a wild card. I know of his reputation and I know he is ruthless when it comes to getting what he wants out of people."

I rounded my desk and pulled up the folder I had on Richard. I handed it to Jasper, and he grabbed it and started flipping through it.

"A few years ago, there was a raid on Richard's Pack but the funny thing is the raiders were his own wolves. He had said that some wolves had gone rogue and attacked some Pack members but the thing is, Kaba had said something along the lines of him lying."

"I remembered that time, so you believe he may be lying too." I nodded.

"Elena said that some wolves came and attacked her home for no reason at all and I think that Kaba knows what happened. I think I need to make a call to him today."

"And what shall I do, Alpha?"

"Go to the cell and see if Nicholas will speak. You may use whatever means necessary but don't kill him. I still want him alive to stand his trial." He bowed and left my office.

I wasted no time, I picked up my phone, sat down on my chair, and dialed Kaba's number. It is time to finally get to the bottom of all this. He picked up the call on the first ring.

"Bernard." He greeted me.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?"

"Kaba, how are you?"

"I am well, just busy as I suspect you are." I hummed in agreement.

"I am actually calling you because I want to talk to you about a few things."

"Oh, you sounded serious, is everything alright?" I sighed.


"No, it's not. I found out today that my Beta, Nicholas, had been plotting against me and wanted to take over the Pack."

"You are kidding, right?" He said in disbelief.

"I spoke with him last week, he asked me about some rogue girl that crossed over into your territory. Is there a connection there?"

"Yes, the girl's name is Elena. I mentioned her before I guess. She is my mate, my true fated mate." The line went silent.

"You have a fated mate! And I am only just hearing about it now? I thought we were closer than that, my friend."

"I am sorry, there was just a lot of controversy surrounding her and there still is. So I needed to keep her true identity a secret."

"What do you mean?"

"You know Richard? He is after her and he has been after her for ten years now. She had managed to evade him but now he knows she is in my territory, thanks to Nicholas. He is ready to wage war to get her."

"Wow, but why would Richard want your mate?"

"That's what I am trying to figure out. She used to be a member of his Pack then he killed her parents. He had been hunting her ever since then. The only thing is she doesn't even know why he is looking for her."

"What is your mate's full name?"

"Elena Rosalie Williams."

The line went silent, I heard him take in a sharp breath and instantly my wolf was on high alert. Kaba didn't respond like that, he was often cool, calm, and collected.

"Bernard, I don't mean to alarm you but your mate is technically meant to be the Alpha of Silver Crest Pack."

What? It took me approximately three seconds to register what he had said to me.

"Elena? My Elena? An Alpha?"

There were so many more thoughts running through my head. How was that even possible? From the way Elena described her early life, she was just a regular omega who lived in the Silver Crest Pack.

Her mother was a preschool teacher and her father worked as an accountant for the Pack. They were as average of a family as they came. If Elena was a part of the Alpha bloodline, why was her father never given the Alpha title? Kaba had just revealed an answer, it only left with even more questions.

"What do you mean, Elena is meant to be the Alpha?"

I heard some rustling on the other end of the line before he finally spoke again.

"Richard's bloodline came into power when his ancestors traveled from the northern territory to come and take over the Silver Crest Pack. Now, for the new bloodline to have the legal rights to become the Alpha, the former bloodline must be destroyed."

"So, Richard's ancestor believed that he had killed the bloodline but he hadn't. There was still one living survivor of the bloodline, it was a bastard-born son of Elena's great great great-grandfather. The bastard son hid in plain sight since no one knew of his true lineage. He did, however, write in a journal that had been within the Williams family from generation to generation."

This is all so crazy. Finally, the pieces were coming together, it all made perfect sense now.
