Chapter 111: Going To War

Chapter 111: Going To War

Richard

I watched some of my warriors spar, we had been preparing for battle over a week now. I was still waiting for that idiot Nicholas to contact me and give me the signal but there had been radio silence on his side. This is why I didn't work well with people. They are inefficient and unreliable. I had 3000 of my best warriors ready to go and this imbecile was wasting my time. My time was valuable and I didn't like to be made a fool.

"Alpha," Matthew said from behind.

"What? Do you have any report?"

"The scouts spotted Alpha Kaba going to Bernard's Pack."

"Was he with any of his warriors?"

"Only his personal guard, he also travels without his Beta so it may look like he will stay in the Pack for a while."

This is interesting, why would Kaba make his way to Bernard's land? I knew that they were allies and they often visited each other but if he left his Beta in his Pack, he was expecting not to return any time soon.

"Get me, Ronald. I need him on a video conference call. I will be in my office shortly."

If Kaba is in Bernard's Pack, it could only mean that they are planning on joining forces. I needed to strengthen my artillery if that was the case, I had no allies as the majority of the Alphas were too intimidated to work with me apart from Ronald. He thought us to be on the same level but we were two very different breeds of man. He was a pup compared to me, my family had come a long way to get to this point. Frank was the beginning of it all and I was to continue on that legacy.

He had only made one error and that was to leave that bastard child alive. He hadn't been careful enough and that fool had tried to challenge me. It was easy enough to kill him but his daughter had slipped through my fingers.

Marrying her would not only ensure that my heir would be born a pure blood Alpha but this way, I could take her gene. I was still working on how the process works but from what I understand, the one who loses the gene will die. I would need to impregnate her and let her give birth before I took her gene. I was sure she was not smart enough to have activated her dormant gene, I was running out of time.

As far as I knew, no one knew of the history of Elena's family but that didn't mean they wouldn't be able to work it out sooner or later. The two warriors I had been watching finished with the smaller one winning in the end. I looked at the defeated one who had a look of terror etched on his face. I hated wolves who lost, they were pathetic and weak links I could not afford.

"You lose," I stared at the boy, he stood up from the ground and hung his head in shame.

"Forgive me Alpha, I should have done better."

"1000 sit-ups and push-ups, if you stop, you start again." I turned to their instructor.

"Make sure he does this correctly, if he makes a mistake, whip him."

I had no Beta, I played both roles which was often challenging but I preferred it that way. Mathew was like my Beta but he didn't have the same responsibilities as one. I trusted very few people in this world and Matthew was one of them. I walked into my office and found Matthew already waiting in the corner of the room. I walked over to the desk and found the video conference call already waiting for me. All I needed to do was press the call button.

"Alpha Ronald is waiting for you." Matthew informed me.

I sat down in my chair, pressed the call button, and waited. Ronald answered after three rings and his face filled my laptop screen.

"Ronald," I greeted.

"Richard, I trust you have heard the news."

My eyebrows furrowed together, I looked at Mathew who looked equally just as confused. I turned back to him and waited for his explanation.

"Have you not heard? It is all anyone can talk about."

"I am not one for gossip, Ronald. Now, spit it out."

"Nicholas had been imprisoned and Bernard had appointed a new Beta. His name is Jasper, he was a captain, I believe."

"Excuse me? Did you just say Nicholas was imprisoned?"

"Yes, Bernard found out about his plan to take over the Pack and I am guessing that he was thrown into prison for his treason. There has been no trial held or execution scheduled though, I don't know what Bernard is waiting for but I am sure Nicholas will not live to see the light of day."

He is waiting for me. If Nicholas was imprisoned, it means that Bernard must know that I am coming for Elena. I am sure that she would have told him who I am.

This is not good, if Bernard knew we were coming, that means we had lost the elements of surprise. He would be preparing his warriors the same way I was preparing mine. I had planned to start marching towards his Pack in the next four days but now there needed to be a change of plans.

"So, what is the plan now?" He shrugged.

"I was only joining this plan to secure my daughter the position of Luna but now with Nicholas imprisoned, there is no reason for me to be a part of this anymore."

As much as I hated to say it, I needed Ronald. If Bernard had brought in Kaba that meant that he would have more men at his disposal which means his number increased and I would be left at a disadvantage.

"But what about your need for revenge? Bernard disrespected your daughter, will you let that go?"

"Of course, I won't but what is in it for me? My daughter will still be unmated and without the title of Luna. I should remove myself from all of this quietly, I do not want to lose favor with my other allies for going after their precious golden boy."

"I will mate her, she will become my Luna." His eyes widened but then he quickly schooled his features.

I was even shocked at my own words. What was I thinking? I could not mate Helen. She isn't ugly by any means and she is the daughter of an Alpha but she wasn't the Alpha's daughter I needed. I could only mate with Elena to solidify my hold as the Alpha of the Pack and produce an heir who contains the ancestral gene of the Williams clan and my clan. This way no one can ever challenge my lineage again.

"You, Richard, who professed he would never take a bride want to marry my daughter? What is the catch?"

"There is no catch, you and I both want the same thing. I want Elena dead and you want an Alpha for your daughter. All I ask is that you lend me some of your strongest men to aid me in this war that I am about to wage." He stared at me blankly.

Ronald was a man who was filled with pride, I knew he would not pass up the opportunity to take revenge for Bernard, the man who had disgraced his daughter and his family.

"Fine, I agree to your terms but I will not be coming with you to fight. I need to try and keep my hands as clean as possible to still keep favours with the rest of the Alphas. Unlike you, I want to keep my friends."

"Send over your armies." He scoffed.

"Reserve forces, that's all I can offer you at the moment. You can either take it or leave it. I will not offer the majority of my men into a fight you are not sure of winning."

I balled my fists and bit my tongue. This man was undermining me and I didn't like it. I had one of the strongest Packs of all the Western region. My warriors were ruthless and unforgiving just like their Alpha. The only reason I needed this man was that I wanted a clean and easy win. I didn't want too much blood because I had bigger plans than just Bernard and Elena. I wanted to be king and I would stop at nothing to attain that.

I had a higher ambition than just being the Alpha of my pack. I wanted to rule over the whole country, I was a man of ambition and I would stop at nothing to attain what I wanted.

"Fine," I bit out.

"Send them today, I will train them with my men for a day and then we will set out to battle two days after their arrival. We have already lost the elements of surprise and I do not want to give Bernard time to gather more warriors from other Alphas. Time is of the essence."

"Fine, we will speak later. Let me consult my Beta and hear what he has to say and which warriors can travel within a few hours."

"Good."

With that, I ended the call without thanking him. Ronald was just a small piece, I needed to wage war on Bernard and once I was done with him, I would dispose of him and his wretched daughter as well. Mathew cleared his throat.

"Alpha, if I may?"

"Speak."

"Are you really going to marry Helen?"

"No," I leaned back into my chair.

"I only said that so he would give us his warriors. I will marry Elena, she is the one I need to mate with. She needs to carry my heir."

Mathew was shocked, I couldn't blame him. No one expects me to marry but they don't know why I want to marry. I need Elena to solidify my hold as Alpha. I didn't need the elders questioning my legitimacy at Alpha or the other Alphas.

Every wolf regarded as the Alpha gene is the true maker of an Alpha. Anyone else who became Alpha and didn't carry the gene would not be regarded highly within the werewolf society. Everyone believed my bloodline carried the gene and it would stay like that.

"Matthew, gather the captains, we are going to war."
