Chapter 115: Getting Stronger

Chapter 115: Getting Stronger

Elena

"Come on." Doris muttered.

"You are too slow, I could have killed you if I was the enemy." I groaned.

"Can you take it easy, please?"

It was my third day of training and my body felt battered and bruised. I had been working on hand-to-hand combat with Doris for the last two hours. If I had thought that she wasn't holding back last time, I would have been mistaken.

She was ruthless, unforgiving, and lethal. I could see why she was one of Bernard's top warriors.

"Richard won't hesitate to mark you, you need to be more alert." She readied her stance.

"Now get up and defend yourself."

Bernard had asked her to take a stricter approach to my training. He wanted me to toughen up because the people we were about to fight would not play fair. I stood to my full height and readied my stance as well, my body was tired and I was ready to lay down but the circumstances didn't permit that. I needed to keep going.

"Fight." Bernard boomed from the sidelines.

Doris lunged at me with her fist heading straight to my head, I dodged easily and steadied myself. I threw my first punch but she caught it easily in her hand, I hooked my legs around her and used my waist to throw her off balance.

As she was about to tumble to the ground, her grip on me loosened and I took the chance and twisted out of her hold. She fell flat on the ground in front of me, I raised my foot in the air and went to go and stomped on her but she rolled out of the way just before my foot made contact with her face. She got up and smiled.

"WOW, looks like someone learned a new trick. Let me show you one of mine."

She leaped into the air and grabbed a low-hanging branch, she swung herself so she was sitting on the branch and staring down at me.

"Oh, Luna," she said in a sing-song voice.

"Missing something?"

My eyes widened and I looked to my now empty finger. My engagement ring was with her, she winked at me, slid the ring on her finger, and smiled.

"Give it back," I gritted my teeth.

"I know you are trying to work me hard but I don't play with things like my engagement ring."

"You want it? Come and get it, Luna."

"Doris, this isn't funny." I was growing seriously impatient.

"Who said I am laughing? You want the ring, come and get it?"

A low growl found its way out of my mouth as my wolf scratched at the surface. She was getting agitated and so was l. The ring belonged to us and Doris had gone too far trying to take it from us.

She smiled and dropped to the ground landing a good meter awesome from me. I charged at her but before I got too close, I leaned into the air and landed behind her. Before she had the chance, I pushed her back so she lost her footing. I circled my arms around her neck and grabbed her left arm and looked behind her arm. She struggled against my hold but I tightened my grip on her.

"Well done, Luna," she gasped as my arm around her neck tightened.

"But you let your emotions get the best of you again."

One moment I had her in my grasp and the next she had set herself free but twisting around in my arm. Doris stepped out of my hold and sent her leg flying backwards connecting it with my stomach. The wind got knocked right out of me. I stumbled a few steps back but that was all Doris needed to start sending her fists flying. I was able to keep her at bay for a little while dodging and ducking away from her hits. I was on the edge of the mat, my heel touching the corner.

She smirked and sent her fist flying my way but I ducked and then circled so I was behind her. I sent my leg into her backside kicking her off the mat. She fell to the ground with a loud thud and I felt the whole area get silent. I looked around and saw that everyone had stopped training and was now looking at me. Doris got up from the ground and turned to face her Alpha.

"She is ready, Alpha." She turned to me.

"Well done, Luna. You still have to brush up on a few things but I believe that you are prepared for battle."

My face split into a huge smile and I hopped off the mat and enveloped her in a huge hug. She returned my hug and laughed lightly, when we pulled away she took off my engagement ring and handed it back to me.

"I understand that you were just trying to get me fired up." I placed the ring back on my finger.

"But if you ever touch my ring again, I will beat your ass." She let out a boisterous laugh.

"This is the first and last time, Luna. Believe me, I don't want to get on your angry side. I have seen a glimpse and I am scared to see the rest."

She left to go and train some of the younger warriors. I walked over to Bernard, who had his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes were watching me closely.

"So, what do you think?" I stopped a few meters from him.

"Did I do good?"

"You did fantastic, my love. I knew you had it in you." I beamed.

His appreciation and belief in me always made my heart swell. He made me want to always push myself that much harder and go for that much longer in my training session. He brought out the very best in me. He opened his arms and I stepped into his embrace. I was sweaty and I probably smelled like a boy's shower room but he didn't seem to mind. He lowered his head and captured my lips in his.

Ever since the presentation, Bernard and I had been more touchy-feely public. He always had to be holding a part of me whether it was my hand, my back, or even my cheek. We had been so connected at the hip, it was getting harder and harder. My wolf was itching to fulfill the mate bond but I wanted to do things the right way. It was hard sharing a bed but Bernard was really good at being the disciplined one out of the two of us. I pulled away, breaking our kiss, he leaned against my forehead and let out a heavy sigh.

"Ready to go?" I didn't want to burst our bubble but we had another meeting with Alpha Kaba. He groaned making his feelings known. He grabbed my hand and we started walking away from the training ground.

"Do you have any idea what he is going to do?" He shook his head.

"All I know is that his head doctor is one of the best of the best. He is the one that taught Liam, so I trusted him." I guess that was somewhat comforting.

Alpha Kaba's troops had arrived yesterday and had been training with our warriors. He had also brought his head doctor who he had said could help me activate the Alpha gene. I was nervous, he had talked about accepting the gene and not running away from it but I felt like I had accepted it. I knew there were still parts of me that had resentment towards my old Pack for not doing anything when my parents were being slaughtered but I felt like I could get past all of that. I tried, by all means, to not think about that day because all it brought was sadness and pain.

We got to the house and found Alpha Kaba and his head doctor already sitting outside. They were in the garden talking with each other and they stood up when they saw us. Both the Alphas greeted and he kissed my cheeks.

"Bernard, Elena, this is my head doctor Marcus. He is one of the best doctors out there and the one who helped me to find information in your story, Elena."

Marcus bowed his head in greeting, the first thing I noticed was his eyes. They were this unique amber colour that reminded me of a sunset.

"Nice to meet you again, Alpha Bernard and it is my pleasure to meet you, Luna Elena." He smiled.

"Shall we begin?" I nodded.

"So, as you know. Each Alpha is gifted with this thing we now call the Alpha gene. It is a gift from the moon goddess herself, I want to help you tap into your powers Elena, and to help you fully realize your full potential. I will do this by digging through your mind."

"What?" He must have seen the confusion on my face.

"No, I am not a mind reader but I can help tap into your psyche using techniques that I have learned and perfected. I will take you to a place in your mind where the body meets the soul. This is where you will find what you seek, from the point, it is up to you to flip the switch."

This sounded just as horrible as I had imagined it to be. I was all for activating the Alpha gene but if I had to go back to those dark places I had fought so hard to leave behind. I don't know if I could do it.
