Chapter 162: Kill Elena
Chapter 162: Kill Elena
Ronald
Helen was still in a coma, it had been two weeks since she had been put into it. The doctors had stopped the medicine and tried to wake her up after a week had passed but she never did. There was brain activity and both she and her baby were fine but she just couldn't wake up.
They had told us that she would wake up when she was ready, it was just her body's way of saying she was still healing. Her wolf was so far detached from her, she was basically human at this point. I am a man who has faced off with the fiercest worries and battled evils across the country, never once was I scared but now, with my daughter's life hanging by a thread, I am terrified.
My wife wasn't eating nor was she sleeping. All she thought about was her daughter and that was my thought as well but I had a Pack to run. I knew I needed to be there for my daughter and wife but I couldn't neglect those who needed me as well. I am still going to go ahead with my plan of figuring out how I am going to get Bernard back together with Helen. I had run through some initial possible ideas but all of them would only result in war or my defeat.
I had only one option, it was an option I was not fully comfortable with seeing as the person I had to go with was seen as a traitor in Bernard's eyes. He couldn't be trusted. There was a knock at my door, I knew who it was. He had taken his sweet time getting here, I had asked for him two days ago.
"Come in."
The door opened revealing Nicholas, he had shaved off his hair and was now sporting a fresh buzz cut. He still held the same cocky and annoying aura he had always carried but now it was less in my face than it used to be. I felt no sympathy for the man, though. He deserves it, he was a traitor but he was a traitor that I needed.
"I called you two days ago, where have you been?" He shrugged.
"I didn't want to see you then."
I could feel the vein on the side of my head jut out, he was already grating at my nerves and he hadn't even been here for more than a minute. I gestured towards the seat opposite mine.
"Have a seat, we have a lot to discuss."
"We do?"
"Yes, we do. You owe me this much, Nicholas. After I let you stay here even though you bear the mark."
"How long will you let that one hang over my head?"
"Forever, now sit." He huffed but did as I asked.
"I need an urgent matter resolved and you seem to be the only person with enough knowledge to help me." He looked at me skeptically from his seat.
"As you know, my daughter has been in a coma for two weeks now." He nodded slowly.
"My deepest sympathies, Ronald. I know this is not an easy time for you or your wife."
"No, it isn't but we are doing our best to push forward."
"So, why do you need my help? Surely you don't think that I can heal her."
"No," l shook my head.
"You can't heal her but you can help me to bring joy back to her life. As you know, Helen was arranged to marry Bernard but that ship sailed long before it ever had a chance to dock. Being Bernard's wife would have brought my daughter great pride and honor. Now that she has lost that and is also pregnant by a man who is not of her standard. She fell into a deep depression."
"I understand all of that but l still don't understand where I come into play here."
"I need to find a way to get Helen back with Bernard. It is the only way I know how to mend my daughter's heart. She is depressed, she isn't well and I need her to find peace. This is the only way I know how to make her pain stop, to restore the life that she thinks was taken from her."
Nicholas stared at me without an expression on his face. He blinked once, the silence in my study grew then he blinked again. He threw his head back and let out a loud laugh that even had my walls shaking. I allowed him to let it all out, it took him a few minutes to sober up but even when he was done, he still let out a small laugh.
"Are you done?" I asked without a hint of a smile.
"I didn't know you were such a comedian, Ronald. You should go on the road."
"I am serious, Nicholas. I need your help to get Bernard and Helen back together. I have done right by my daughter as of late but now I want to stand by her. She deserves the life she has dreamed of and as her father, I should be able to give her exactly that."
He looked at me like I had gone mad and maybe for a second or two, I had gone mad.
"You do understand that they are married now, right? And they have completed their bond, it is almost unbreakable. Crescent Wolf Pack knows who their Luna is and will only accept Elena as their Luna."
"I know that but I also know that I have a daughter who could wake up any moment and find her son dead in her womb. I need to grant her a new life, away from this place."
"What you are asking is not possible."
"Anything is possible if you will it to be, you and I both know this, Nicholas. You hate Bernard just as much as I do, you will never be able to take a position in a pack ever again because you carry the mark but you can help me and I promise to continue to offer you asylum." He was silent for a moment, unable to speak.
"You will never be able to separate Elena and Bernard. The only thing strong enough to keep them apart is death."
The room felt silent after his heavy words filled the air around us. 'Till death do us part' is a classic age old vow. But he was right, there was no way you could separate them except in death which meant that I needed to get rid of Elena once and for all. If I followed through with this plan, I would be going back on my word and possibly placing my pack under threat from Bernard and his allies. Unless, of course, they didn't know that my hand was in all of this. After Elena was gone, there would need to be some relationship still left in order to form a new bond.
"They can't know that I am a part of this."
"Were you expecting them to? You need to keep your hands as clean as possible. If you are to try and arrange for Bernard and Helen to marry, you need to keep your relationship as they are now."
"So, what do I do?" He leaned back in his chair.
"You do it silently, you send in someone who is not afraid to get their hands dirty. Someone who is highly skilled and knows the land well, someone who can be in and out before anyone has any time to notice."
"So, I need you." He nodded.
"I will do it, there is nothing that I have to lose anymore. Besides, I have a bone to pick with Elena and my sister. But I want something in return." Of course, there had to be a catch where he was concerned.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to get Bernard to remove the mark."
"You must be mad or delusional or both. Once a mark is placed, it cannot be removed."
"It can but only the one who ordered it. He would have to give me a new mark, a mark of loyalty. It would cancel out the one he had already given me."
"You are mad, you tried to kill him and you think the man would give you a mark of brotherhood? You cannot be serious, Nicholas. What you are asking for is truly impossible."
"Not impossible, just difficult to attain. If you do this for me, then I will kill Elena for you."
I thought of his offer, what he was asking for was damn well near impossible but I was willing to do anything for my daughter. I needed to set things right and if this was the way to do it, then I would do it.
"You have my word." He shook his head.
"No, not good enough. You gave your word to Bernard but look what you are just about to do. You need to make a blood promise, this way, it will tie you to me." I rolled my eyes.
"I am not doing that."
"Then, you need to find someone willing to kill one of the most protected she-wolf in the country."
He had me cornered and he knew it, there was no one else that I could send in there, and have full confidence that they would not get caught. Nicholas was my only and final hope.
"Fine, I will take the blood oath. But you must leave within the coming week. You can go to my herbalist, he will help you to find the perfect poison. Preferably, use something that doesn't leave any traces and make sure that you are in and out quickly."
"I know what to do, I am not a child, Ronald."
He excused himself and left my office. I hoped I was putting my faith in the right person here, he is my only hope.
