Chapter 154: Sweet Nothing
Chapter 154: Sweet Nothing
Elena
After my meeting with the principal of the school. I returned back home. I had been home four hours before Bernard finally made it, I heard him enter the front door. I was sitting at the island drawing up some plans on how I was going to exact change in the Pack.
I had acted quickly when it came to the Silver Crest Pack and I had forgotten to take into consideration some people.
"Elena?" He called.
"In the kitchen." I yelled back and looked at the paper in front of me. I had been drawing these plans for almost four hours now and they were finally ready but I didn't know how he was going to take this. I just hoped we could see eye to eye on this.
"Hey," he rounded the island and stood in front of me. He lowered his head and kissed me softly, I moaned into his mouth, melting into him.
"How was your day?" He rubbed his nose against mine in an Eskimo kiss and took me a moment to clear my haze.
"It was okay," I bit down on my lips.
"But I did want to talk to you about something, it actually has to do with all these papers that I have laid out right now." He looked at the drawing.
"What is this?" I let out a heavy breath.
"This is my plan to help the Pack."
"Help the Pack with what?"
"I think you need to sit down so that I can explain everything to you."
He dragged the chair next to mine, sat down, and kept one of his hands on top of mine. His thumb circled my skin in soothing motions.
"It all started when I visited the high school."
I explained everything that I had encountered at the high school, I made my disdain for the principal very clear. What he had done was not right and I needed Bernard to know where I stood on the matter. When I was done, I watched his face carefully but he had no real emotions in them apart from the slight frown.
"Bern," I laughed nervously.
"Say something, please."
"I don't really know what to say."
"What about the principal actions?"
"He was out of order but at the same time, the school ran on a hierarchy, my love. It has been that way for decades, trying to dismantle something like that could be tricky." I removed my hand from his.
"What do you mean by that? So is it okay for the shifter to keep attacking the integrators? They are my responsibility or have you forgotten?"
"No, I have not forgotten that, my love but at the same time, you did just plunge these wolves into our Pack expecting everything to go over smoothly when that is certainly not the case. I knew that issues like this would arise."
"And why did you say anything before?"
"What did you want me to say? Hey, my love, you can't bring these wolves into my pack?" I felt something sharp hit my chest.
"Our." He looked at me confused.
"You said my Pack but Crescent Wolf Pack is ours or am I mistaken?" He shook his head realizing his mistake.
"You know what I mean, my love." I stood from my seat.
"No, I actually don't know what you mean. We are meant to be equal but I felt like I am more of your subordinate than your partner."
"Elena, you are overrating."
He tried to reach for me but I pulled away, he could not be serious right now. He was making it out to be like l was crazy.
"I am not overreacting, Bernard. I still feel like somewhat of a stranger here. We are meant to work together to make this Pack better and I am saying that some things need to change to achieve that."
"The hierarchy is tradition, Elena. You trying to remove it is like taking away history."
"Is this tradition really worth keeping, Bernard? Ask yourself what happened when people were abused by it?"
"Of course, what is happening is not an idea but…."
"There is no but Bernard. We need to do something, they deserve to be treated with respect like any other wolf here."
"What do you want me to do?" I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Make bullying a crime." He let out a low laugh.
"I am not doing that, Elena. A crime? Really?"
"Fine, maybe not a crime but people should get punished, people shouldn't just get a free pass with this."
He tried to reach for me again but I moved away from his hand. He looked at me a little frustrated but I was not letting this go easily.
"Elena, come on."
"Bernard, this is important to me. We need to fix these issues today. I want there to be a change and I can't do that unless we are on the same page." He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off.
"When no one knew who I was to you the first time I came to this Pack, I suffered some abuse from some of the high-ranking wolves. They made it a point to remind me how low I was and how I would amount to nothing. I don't want that for any wolf from the Silver Crest Pack."
I saw the fury swimming behind his eyes but his rage was useless now. The time had passed and the wounds had been made from their hurtful words had healed already.
"Why didn't you tell me about this before?" He bit out.
"Because I could brave it but some people like the girl that was bullied in school today may not be able to and they shouldn't have to. I am their Alpha and I need to do what is right for them, I need to protect them. So, I am asking you not as your mate or wife. I am asking you as your partner, to stand with me on this." He was silent for a while.
"Fine, I am with you but we need to come up with a way in which both sides can be appeased."
"That's fair, as long as everyone is treated equally. I am okay with anything."
"Now, would you please let me hold you?" He reached for me and this time I didn't dodge him. He pulled me to him and circled his arms around my waist and my hand around his neck.
"So, you don't want to go through the paper with me before I start making dinner?"
"Actually," he kissed my lips gently.
"I was thinking to celebrate your first day, we could head out for dinner somewhere. Besides, I don't think after your stressful day, you would want to be behind a hot plate."
"Tell me more about it." I smiled.
"It is a surprise, you go and get ready and I will wait for you. But be quick, our reservation is around eight o'clock."
I looked at the time to check the time and it was already 7:25.
"Bernard," I gasped.
"That's in thirty minutes. Why are you just telling me this now?"
"Because you were yelling at me." He pouted, and I rolled my eyes. If this Pack should see their big and fearsome Alpha pouting like a little baby. I detached myself from his hold and hurried to the room to get dressed.
"Hurry up!"
"It takes time to look presentable."
I looked down at him as I was already on the stairs and found him leaning against the wall at the bottom of the stairs.
"You are more than presentable, my love. You could wear a trash bag and I would still think you are the most beautiful woman in the world."
"Sweet nothing." I said in a sing-song voice as I turned away from him and made my way to the room.
After the fastest shower I had ever taken in my life and a little blush and lip gloss, I am ready. Alisha had been teaching me how to apply make-up but I am still learning.
I chose to wear a beautiful white cocktail dress, it had thin straps and a sweetheart neckline. The dress puffed out a little and stopped just about my knees, there was no way I would be able to brave heels so I opted for cute sandals that showed off my painted toes.
I made my way downstairs and rounded the corner into the kitchen, I found Bernard at the counter reading my drawing.
"My love, these are some really good…." His voice trailed off as he looked at me and locked eyes with me. His eyes scanned the length of me and I felt a little embarrassed.
"Do you like it?"
"Like?" He stood up from his seat and walked towards me.
"If I could, I would marry you all over again." I blushed.
"Come on, let's go." He threaded our fingers together and started walking to the front door.
He kept staring at me throughout the drive to the restaurant. His gaze heated my blood and all I could think about was what was coming after the dinner. Ever since we had completed our bond, I always felt the urge to have sex with him all the time.
Our pull is stronger and it grows with each passing day. I had never felt a love quite like this in my entire existence on earth.
