Chapter 141: Something Is Not Adding Up

Chapter 141: Something Is Not Adding Up

Liam

Something is definitely not adding up with the whole situation, even if she had drugged Bernard, she shouldn't have been able to arouse him enough for him to even be capable of making her pregnant. The pregnancy test came out positive, she is really pregnant but the only question is, who is the father of the child? I am 85% sure that the child in her womb doesn't belong to Bernard. I just need to prove it.

I made my way to the maternity floor, Helen should have been done with her ultrasound by now. I needed to face her before she left the hospital. These tests needed to be completed tonight so that the result would come out by morning. From the way Bernard looked, I knew that he was really in his head about this one. He had faced so much just so he could accept Elena as his mate. His wedding was in three days and then this bombshell was dropped like it was nothing, I felt for my best friend.

'Jasper, I need you.' I mind linked him.

'Where?'

'In the hospital, my office.'

'l will be there in twenty minutes.'

Jasper, Bernard, and I had been friends since we were still boys, we had looked out for each other and been there when each other needed help and support. Now, it was time Jasper and I held down the fort for Bernard. I reached her door and knocked.

"Come in," her muffled voice said from the other side. I steeled my chest and readied myself for what I was about to walk into.

I twisted the knob and made my way into the room, Helen was in her regular clothes and her father stood off to the side of the room. He held a small image in his hand of his grandchild, I could see the ghost of a smile playing on his lips.

"I trust the ultrasound went well?" She nodded and her father looked at me with disdain in his eyes.

I was just about as thrilled to be in a room with him as he was. I didn't like this man from the moment I first met him.

"So, now that you are done with your ultrasound, it is time I take you to get the paternity test done." I turned my attention solely to Helen.

"No," she quipped.

"I am tired and I want to rest. We will do this in the morning, my father and I have traveled very far, you wouldn't want to street out the future Alpha of the Pack, would you?" She rubbed her belly obnoxiously.

"You and I know that if the child turns out to be Bernard's, it will never be an Alpha. The child was bred out of an unsolicited bond and, therefore will have no claim to anything of Bernard's once Elena gives birth to her children."

The vein on the side of her head popped out, her jaw locked in place. Good, be angry Helen, whatever little game she was playing, she won't win.

"As for the paternity test, it won't take long at all. I will just insert a needle into your abdomen so I can retrieve amniotic fluid from the sac. Then, I will run my test and cross reference the DNA with Bernard's."

"Why can't it wait till tomorrow?" She was stalling.

"Why can't it be right now? You are here and my equipment is already. This way you can prove that the child belongs to Bernard, and we can move forward and start working out an arrangement." She forced a smile onto her face but I could see right through her.

"Fine, we can have the test now, then I want to be escorted to my room so I can rest. This child takes a lot out of me."

I nodded and opened the door, and we left the room. I knew that she and Ronald would follow me, I had already instructed a nurse to have all my equipment ready for me. I saw Jones and Jim walking towards me from the other end of the hallway. They came to a halt when they saw me, they both bowed their heads in greeting.

"Alpha instructed us to come and escort, Alpha Ronald and Helen to their rooms." Jones spoke up.

"I just need to take Helen to one of the rooms for a test and then she is all yours." I gestured over my shoulder to the room where Ronald and Helen were coming from.

Jones follows my gaze but it stops when it lands on Helen. His eyes go wide as his eyes find their way to the small bump. Just as quickly as the shock came, it left and he schooled his features.

"Are you alright, Jones?" Jones snapped his gaze back to me.

"Yes, I am fine, Jim and I will wait outside until the tests are done."

I nodded slowly not fully believing him, I looked over my shoulder to Helen, her eyes flicked from me to Jones and then back to me, interesting.

"Ronald, Helen, this is Jones and Jim. They will be your escort once we are done with the test. They will be taking care of you during your stay."

They both bowed their heads in greeting but I didn't miss the look that Jones threw Helen's way. It wasn't a flirtatious look though, it looked like anger on his face. I will need to ask him a few questions later. Helen and I walked into the testing room leaving Ronald outside.

"Lay down on the bed, please." She obliged.

"I am going to need you to lift your clothes so I can sanitize the area. I will numb the area and then take the needle to retrieve my sample, it should be painless and leave no scarring. You feel a little bit uncomfortable but that is all." She didn't say a word, she just nodded.

I took the ultrasound wand to make sure that I was going to be in the right place, pups developed faster than humans but the incubation was more or less the same.

"You seem to know Jones?" I placed the wand back once I was satisfied.

"Who?" I knew she was playing dumb, both of them knew each other.

"One of the escorts tonight, judging by the way you two looked at each other. I assume that you know each other possibly." She shook her head.

"I have never seen him before in my life."

"Okay."

I got the sample I needed, she hopped off the bed and made her way to the door. I called her as her hand came onto the doorknob.

"The results will be out first thing in the morning, I pray for your sake Helen that you were telling the truth and this child does belong to Bernard. Because it turns out that you lied, there will be no saving you from the fury that he shall unleash."

She barely looked over her shoulder to look at me, she didn't utter a word, so she turned away and left. I am going to get to the bottom of this, I knew that if I wanted to get the answer I needed, I would need to go through Jones.

'I am here.' Jasper linked me.

'Coming.'

When I opened the door, they were all gone. I took the sample and dropped it off in the lab. Within the next few hours, we will know the truth. I made my way downstairs to meet Jasper when I entered. I saw him pacing slowly around the room, it was good to know that I wasn't the only one stressing over the whole situation. Jasper and I both felt for our friend, he didn't deserve this.

"How is he doing?" He looked at me.

"Not good, he is scared that he is going to lose Elena over this. I told him he was being ridiculous and that she wouldn't abandon him like that."

"This whole issue is messed up, is she really pregnant?" I nodded.

"The pregnancy test came out positive."

"Damn it!" He slammed his hand against my hardwood desk.

"Is it his?"

"I just took a sample from her and we will know within the next few hours but for now, I have a plan to unearth some more evidence."

"I am all ears."

"I think I might know who can give us the truth about Helen and her pregnancy."

"Who?"

"The man I believe that made her pregnant, Jones." He furrowed his eyebrows.

"What? Who is Jones?"

"He is one of our lower-ranked warriors but I have a hunch that he might be the father of the child Helen is currently carrying.

"That's a bold claim, how sure are you?"

"70% sure."

"I will take those odds, so what do we do now?"

"Now, we get Jones and get the answer we need."
