Chapter 33: What Is Special About Her?

Chapter thirty-three: What Is Special About Her?

Bernard

I tried to get up from the bed but the stitches on my side felt like they were ripping apart. I overlooked the pain and tried my best to get up. I could brave whatever I needed to when it came to Elena. If she had left the Pack, I would move heaven and hell to find her.

"Bernard!" Helen yelled as she stood up from her seat, trying to push me back to the bed.

"You will rip out the stitches, your wolf is still healing. The wolf that attacked you, its claws were laced with wolfsbane. You can exert yourself." She said to me.

"I need to get to her." I struggled against her.

Normally, I would have easily overpowered someone like her size but my wolf is weak and these painkillers Liam gave me were doing nothing to ease the pain.

"Get to who?" She asked as she pushed me back to the bed.

"Help! I need help here." She screamed, and my eyes snapped to her in a blazing rage.

"Elena! I need to find her!" She froze at my outburst.

I didn't mean to say that out loud but she is the cause of my mind being so frantic. I didn't know the state of my mate, I didn't even know if she was still safe in my land or if she had run off across the border. Did she think that I wanted to be with Helen?

"Alpha!" A doctor ran inside looking panicked. She is one of the senior doctors and one of the best according to Liam. Her name is Lizzie and she has always been devoted to her job. Helen snapped out of whatever daze she had been in and resumed, trying to hold me back. I struggled against her but Lizzie came and helped to restrain me. My eyes snapped at her.

"I order you as your Alpha to let me go. I need to go and find Elena." Realization dawned on her face.

"Alpha, she is with Liam." She said to me.

"I saw her with him in the cafeteria, they were having dinner as we speak now." Relief washed over me like a tidal wave. She is safe and she is still in the hospital facilities.

She is still here?" Lizzie gave me a gentle smile because of my question.

"Yes, Alpha. She is, I can send for her if you want." I shook my head.

"No, I didn't want her to see me like this. Just inform Liam that he must not let her out of his sight at any cost. It is a direct order from his Alpha." I said to her and I could see that she was curious but she didn't say anything further. She just nodded and removed her hand from my shoulder. She checked my vital signs and left the room and that was only when I felt the weight of Helen's stares then I remembered that I wasn't alone.

Her arms were crossed over her chest and only then did I notice that her shirt was cut a little too low showing a larger part of her breast. It was crazy to think that a few months ago, my mouth would have salivated at the sight but not now. I met Elena and everything changed almost overnight and I am not complaining.

"Who is this girl to you, Bernard?" I could tell from her question that she was at her boiling point.

"She is a friend." I responded but she is more than that, she is everything to me.

"Screw it, I know you are lying, Bernard, and I don't like to be made a fool of. So it would be best that you tell me the truth right now before I have to find out in a not so pleasing way." She is challenging me now, my wolf doesn't like to be challenged. She may have been an Alpha's daughter but I am still an Alpha. She needs to learn her place.

"Are you threatening me, Helen?" I asked her and I could see a momentary hesitation flicker but she masked it expertly. Ronald taught her well but she inherited her father's pride and temper, I could tell that within this short interaction we had.

"Bernard, I will only ask you once more, who is she to you?" She said.

"A friend." I replied, I was lying. She is my soul and my entire world.

She looked at my face, hoping to catch my lies but I was good at concealing myself. As an Alpha, I learned the art of lying and manipulation only so they could never be used against me. She huffed and stomped her foot like a child. She walked out of my room without another word.

The adrenaline drained from my body and the fatigue was still catching up with me. Knowing that Elena was safe with Liam, I allowed the darkness to swallow me. I knew that when I opened my eyes again, there would be a mountain of problems left for me to solve but also I knew that as long as I had Elena by my side, I could brave anything that came my way.

Helen Pov.

This had to be some kind of joke, I stormed my way out of the hospital and headed to his house. I knew that girl would be there, I took my precious time and made my way here for his sorry self and he had the nerves to blow up at me. Over what? A stupid little gamma who is worth less than the shoes on my feet.

What was so special about her anyway? At best, she is mediocre and clearly pale in comparison to me. I am not a woman who needed to compete because there is never any competition, I came out on top at all times. I wasn't conceited, I just knew it was true.

So many men, far and near came to seek my hand in marriage. I was above the age at which one was expected to have found their mate. Unlike others, I was unlucky and in this way, I got to pick my mate and not leave it up to a being in the sky.

I had never struggled to grab the attention of any man. Their eyes simply gravitated towards me so finding someone willing to mate with me wasn't an issue, it was finding the suitable mate. I am the daughter of an Alpha after all, and with that came many perks and pleasures.

When Bernard's parents contacted my father looking to match me with their son, my father jumped at the chance. Not only will our union strengthen the two Packs but it will extend my father's power hold. In our world, power is everything, and the more alliances and linkages you make, the more power you gain. I reached the front door of Bernard's mansion and before I could take a step inside, a guard intercepted me.

"This is restricted access." His monotone voice was like sandpaper to my ears. I don't have time for this, least of all, a low-ranking mutt like him.

"That is okay." I fake smile at him.

"I am Bernard's mate." I said but he didn't move. He just stared at me like he didn't believe me.

Everyone knew that Bernard was to be mated and they also knew who his mate to be is, this man just made a huge mistake crossing me on a day like this.

"I am Helen Elison, the daughter of Alpha Ronald Eliso and mate to Bernard, your Alpha which not only means that I outranked you because I am an Alpha daughter but because I am your Luna." His eyes widened and he lowered his head in submission. That is better.

"Forgive me Luna." He moved away from my path and allowed me to walk inside the house.

I liked the sound of my title on his lips, I had been born into power and I had the Alpha blood running inside me. I don't need to be worried about a low-ranking she-wolf, she is nothing but a little bug that needs to be squished and I am more than happy to play exterminator.

I opened the door and walked into the house, looking around the foyer and examining the area for a second. The house is nice but too simple for my liking. If I am going to leave here, I need more things. I will talk about it with Bernard when he comes back from the hospital.

"Elizabeth?" I called out, my voice echoing throughout the hardwood floors home. I am sure that my parents and Elizabeth had come here because they told me that when they left me at the hospital.

"Elizabeth?" I called out again.

"Helen, my dear. Is that you?" Her voice was coming from what looked to be the kitchen area. I followed her voice down the hall until I came to the kitchen. The kitchen was very modern with a contemporary feel to it. The tabletop was made with a beautiful white marble and the cabinets were painted with black. The room felt expensive and it is just my taste.

Elizabeth was sitting at the counter sipping on a glass of what looked like chardonnay. As soon as she saw me, her face broke into a brilliant smile. Her blonde hair which had been done into an up-do before now was down. The eyes she passed down to her son beamed at me.
