Chapter 40: He Make Me Happy
Chapter forty: He Makes Me Happy
Elena
"You are back?" She said, relieved.
"I was starting to think maybe you would be sleeping at the hospital. How is Alpha Bernard?" She asked.
"He is fine, I have a lot to tell you but it will have to wait. I need to go and get a room at the gamma's house." I replied.
"Why?"
"I am moving out of here and I would like to do it sooner rather than later."
"Does the Alpha know?" I nodded.
"He knows, we discussed everything in length. I just need to gain my independence back and he understands that." She still seemed unsure.
"And where will you go?" She asked.
"That is the best part, actually." I beamed.
"I will be moving into the gamma's house with you." Her eyes went wide with excitement.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes." I could hardly contain myself.
"But we need to get going before the sun comes up. Bernard said that he already contacted someone and they are waiting for me."
"Okay then, might as well start putting these back in the boxes." She gestured towards the clothes she was folding and putting away.
"I will help you so that we will be able to get this done quickly. I know you must be tired." I said to her.
"No, I love helping you, Luna. It is one of my greatest honors." It was only when the word spilled from her mouth did she realized what she just said. She bowed her head, seeking my forgiveness but I didn't reprimand her. Instead, I walked over to her and placed my hand on g her shoulder.
"It is okay, Ali." Testing out my new nickname for her on my lips.
"You are right, I can't deny who I am destined to be. Bernard is my mate and I am the Luna of this Pack. It was preordained that I take this position in my life and I am done running from what is mine." She lifted her head and the look in her eyes had my chest swelling. She was looking at me with this look of admiration and pride that I was not sure I was deserving of. Just because I accepted who I was meant to be in this Pack doesn't mean that I am qualified for the job.
"You will make a fantastic Luna." She joyously said.
"I can only hope I serve you all well." She placed her hand on top of mine on her shoulder.
"I know you will, Luna."
"Alisha, I know that I have accepted my role but not everyone knows about this, so we need to keep this a secret for now and I would much like it if you call me Elena. You are my friend after all." I watched as tears welled in her eyes as she beamed at me.
"Thank you, Elena." She pulled me into a hug.
I didn't know what she was thanking me for but I just held her in my arms as we experienced the first of many touching moments in our friendship.

The sun finally came up and I moved into the gamma's house with the help of Alisha. Just as Bernard said, someone was waiting for my arrival. I was given a room on the second floor next to Alisha's. The room was small but it was nice, I had a bed, a drawer, and a closet to put all my clothes in. I had a desk that was situated in the corner of the room and I had my private bathroom. I was told that I received one of the best rooms in the lodge. I had my suspicions that Bernard did that but I wasn't mad about it.
I didn't get much sleep during the night, my mind was busy thinking about a million different things. I am still concerned about Richard and how long it would be before he found me. It causes me restlessness. It was no surprise that I was at the bakery just an elderly woman was turning the closed sign to say open. She looked at me through the glass window and welcomed me with a smile. She reminded me of my grandma, her gray hair was tied into an elegant bun and her aged hazel eyes beamed at me. Her face was wrinkled but there was a beauty to her age that made it almost timeless.
She opened the door of her bakery and gestured for me to come in.
"You must be, Elena?" She smiled.
"Jana told me you would be coming, please come in." I smiled and stepped into the bakery.
The first thing I noticed was the smell of baked goods that wafted through the air and the delicious scent of roasting coffee beans. I never had coffee but my mother used to drink it every morning before she left for work. So it was a familiar and comfortable scent to me. Then I turned to face her.
"You have a beautiful bakery." I complimented her.
"Thank you, my dear." She pointed to a nearby table.
"Shall we sit and have a chat?" I nodded and settled into the chair. Veronica wasn't as intimidating as I thought she would be, there was a calming nature about her and I felt completely at ease around her.
"Now, how can I help you, my dear?" She asked.
"I am looking for a job, Jana told me that you could help me out. I don't have much experience working in a bakery but I am willing to learn. I am hardworking and I can take direction, what I lack is experience but I can make up for in street smarts and adaptability." She nodded.
"Okay, that is good. Well, I am looking for someone to work part-time in the morning. The job doesn't pay that much but it is very rewarding." She said to me.
"That is perfectly fine with me, I don't mind coming in early at all."
"Good because I need you to be here at five o'clock every morning to help me start on the bread for the day. Do you think you can manage that?" She asked.
Five o'clock in the morning is very early but I wanted my independence and that came with different sacrifices and costs.
"Yes, I am in, Veronica." I held my hand out to her so she could shake it. We sealed our deal with a shake and just like that I was employed. This was my very first job and I am going to make sure that I didn't let Veronica or myself down.
"Great, come let me show you around so you can familiarize yourself with everything." She stood from her seat and I followed suit. She showed me around her bakery and told me about how she established this bakery almost twenty-five years ago with her husband and mate, Rick. They started with almost next to nothing and managed to build their small business into one of the best bakeries in the whole Pack. Humans and wolves alike flocked to her bakery every day.
She and her husband were gamma's but they were high ranking enough that they garnered the respect of many within the Pack, including Bernard.
"So, Jana told me that they found you in the woods a few weeks back. I am sorry for what you had to endure, Elena. It must have been so traumatic for you." She muttered.
"It is fine, I survived and I am still breathing, that is all that matters I guess." She placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"That is the spirit, I always like to believe that the strongest of us face the hardest challenge and that means, Elena. You are probably the strongest of us all." She said.
"I highly doubt that I am sure anyone would have been able to survive what I have been through." She shook her head.
"From what Jana told me, we were on the border of life and death while in the hospital. You are special, Elena, and I can see it myself.
"Thank you, Veronica." I blushed.
I didn't feel like what I had gone through was special or made me special. Sure, I went through some horrific things but that didn't automatically place a crown of superiority over my head. But I won't deny that it was nice hearing those words coming from her.
"Now that I have shown you around the bakery, what are your thoughts?"
"I love it, it is incredible that you were able to build something from nothing." She hummed in agreement.
"Truthfully, I couldn't have done it without my Rick." Her eyes glazed over as she went to a different place.
"He worked long and hard hours at the factories to save up enough money so we could build this small place. We spent months painting and renovating everything to our liking. We opened it and the rest was history after that. Rick was able to quit his job at the factory to come and help in the bakery. We work well as a team, always moving as one unit and not two separate parts." Her mouth grew into a wider and brighter smile as she was talking. She is a woman in love, I could relate.
Whenever I thought of Bernard, I couldn't help the smile that took over my face. He just made me so happy, I didn't know how I ever managed to do my life without him.
