Chapter 99: New Ally
Chapter ninety-nine: New Ally
Nicholas
News traveled fast around this Pack, it had always been a blessing and a curse but today, it had been planned out to be a much-needed blessing in disguise. I had known that something was going on between Bernard and Elena and now I come to find out that they are actually fated mates. I should have known, it was the only logical explanation in the way in which he had been behaving towards her.
First, he didn't imprison her on her arrival then he invited her to stay in his home. He initiated her into the Pack without consulting the elders or even me. He placed the Alpha protection law on her, the mad had given clear signs but I had been too blinded to notice. Now the only two questions that remained were, what would happen to Helen and how would Alpha Ronald react? What did Richard want with Elena? She has to be of some importance and relevance to him.
The whole connection between Elena and Bernard was strange because she was not only an Omega but he was an Alpha. Often, an Alpha would be mated to a mate who carried the Alpha gene or at the very least a Beta gene. There were still so many questions surrounding Elena and Richard, I had been meaning to call him but I had decided to delay because I knew I needed to tread lightly when dealing with Richard. He was a man of extreme intelligence and power, he was ruthless and known for his cruelty towards his wolves.
I would need to consult with Doris to see if she had managed to pull any information from Elena. The plan was finally coming together and we were in the crucial deciding moment now. One wrong move of any given piece could cost me the entire game, I couldn't afford that.
I watched as Bernard's car peeled out of the parking lobby of his parent's house and headed in the direction of his home, probably going to see Elena. I waited a little while more before I pulled into the driveway myself and headed to the front door. I could hear some screaming and screeching going on inside and I was sure that Bernard had broken the news to Helen and she was not happy. It twisted the knob and walked into the Joseph household.
When I got inside, it was no surprise to see Helen at the top railing throwing things down the second floor. Elizabeth was at the bottom of the stairs yelling at her to stop.
"Stop it, Helen." She ordered, Helen gave her a dangerous look and narrowed her eyes at her.
"Your family has finally ruined me! So much humiliation, so much wasted time and effort preparing to be his bride that I will never get back. I am done!" She threw some more clothes down to the ground floor. It was only when I took a closer look at the clothes did I realized they were not hers but Elizabeth and Joseph's clothes. She was going on a full rampage.
"Helen, stop it or I will have the guards throw you out."
"If they touch me, they will be sentenced to death. The daughter of an Alpha has Alpha protection over her from birth. You cannot touch or harm me unless you want my father to kill your men." Elizabeth snapped her mouth shut.
It was only when she felt my presence behind her did she looked at me. Her shoulder sagged in relief when she saw me.
"Oh, thank the moon goddess you are here, Nicholas. She had gone completely insane, please help me here."
I looked to Helen who was still screaming profanities all around and throwing things off the railing.
"Why don't you leave for a little bit, Elizabeth? I will take care of this and then you can come back after a few minutes, sounds good?" She nodded.
She pulled out her keys to her car and walked out the door without a second look back. I couldn't blame her, Helen was hard to deal with at the best of times, and at the worst of times, she was a nightmare. I didn't know how they had survived so long with her living under the same roof. I would have to use tactics that I normally used on trespassers and out-of-control wolves on her because there was no easy way to calm down a beast like Helen once she got going.
"Helen, I need you to calm down." I started walking up the stairs.
"Calm down?" She let out a humorless laugh.
"Do you have any idea what your Alpha has put me through? I had spent months preparing for this. I had made myself the perfect candidate to be his wife and Luna. I had sacrificed so much and given so much of myself to become his Luna and then he turned around to tell me no?" She was really angry, the kind of angry that was a blinding red.
"I will wage war on all of you! I am going to burn this entire Pack to the ground."
I felt a slight push within my mind and I knew someone was trying to contact me through the mind link. I let my wall down and allowed the person in.
'Nicholas, I need you to take Helen to the border. Ronald will pick her up from there.' Bernard said through our mind link.
'Helen is leaving the Pack?' I feigned confusion.
'Yes, I don't know if you have heard about it but I have found my true mate. It is Elena, I will discuss it more with you later but for now, just do as I have asked, please.'
'Of course, Alpha.' then I closed the link.
Helen went to their bedroom to retrieve more of Joseph's belongings but I followed closely behind her. She nodded to stop. She was about to walk into the closet but I grabbed her arms and halted her movement.
"What will this accomplish? What will throwing their clothes out serve you? You still won't be Luna of the Pack and you will still feel the same way. Don't disgrace yourself more than you already have, Helen. Walk away with your head held high and whatever is left of your dignity intact."
She was silent for a moment, her brain thinking and turning and moving. She was a prideful one, she would never make herself look weak in front of her enemies. So I knew that she would concede, I needed her calm when I brought up my plans and her raging like this would slow the process down. She nodded and went to her room so she could begin packing her things away.
She was a smart enough woman and I knew she would have made a great Luna for Bernard. She is cunning and ruthless and no-nonsense. When my plans finally succeeded and I was in control of the Pack, I would make her my Luna so she could produce an heir for me. She has the gene and she had the mindset that could be second to mine. We would be an unstoppable force.
I only needed to get her father to agree but I knew he would. Ronald was a man of pride as well and he had been badly wounded. I went out and waited in the car while she got her things ready. After twenty minutes or so, she came through the front door having changed into some workout clothes and big dark shades. She grumbled as she got into the car and didn't make a single sound as she settled into the passenger seat.
We drove in silence to the western border, she typed frantically on her phone and didn't look up until we finally made it to the borderline. Her father was waiting for us there with his entourage of people. I helped Helen get her bags to her father's men, she didn't even turn around to thank me. She just crossed the border with her father, kissed him on the cheek, and went to sit in the back of the car.
"Your Alpha has disgraced my daughter, Nicholas." Ronald narrowed his eyes on me.
"I will not forget this and I will not let this one go. He has to pay for what he has done."
"I understand, Ronald and I agree with you one hundred percent which is why I have a proposition for you."
He looked slightly taken aback at my words, probably thinking I would have defended my Alpha to the death.
"Go on."
"What if I were to tell you that Helen could still be Luna but she wouldn't be mated to Bernard. She would marry another wolf."
"And what other wolf has the power and leverage that could rival Bernard's?"
"I will, once I take over as the Alpha."
His eyes went slightly wide from shock before he quickly recovered.
"You want to take the Alpha position from Bernard? Do you not know that is treason, boy?"
"Bernard is unfit to be the Alpha. He has prospered in his position because of me and that is pure fact. If you are to join me in fighting against him, I will ensure that your daughter will be Luna of this Pack, and only that, I will pledge my loyalty to you and you to me and we will align together."
He was silent for a moment, thinking it over but when I saw one side of his lips tilt upward. I knew that the deal was as good as done.
"Alright, I will help you."
"Great, I will contact you within the coming weeks. Safe travels, Ronald." He turned away from me and headed to his car.
Another crucial piece had been moved and the plans moved forward yet again. It is only a matter of time now.
