Chapter 195: The Baby Is Coming

Chapter 195: The Baby Is Coming

Elena

I am a little biased, my wedding was beautiful and perfect but Doris's design was amazing, it is so beautiful.

As Bernard and I walked into the forest, it was as though we had entered another dimension. A fairy garden that was unique to us, Alisha was in charge of the decorations and she had done an incredible job. String lights were wrapped around the trees and led a path all the way down to the flower archway where Jasper stood. He was put together rather well for someone that hated to dress up, his suit was impeccable and there were flakes of glitter along his shoulder that occasionally sprinkled through the air by a couple of children up in the trees. It was very creative, to say at least.

"How are you feeling?" Bernard leaned down to my level and kissed my shoulder as he helped me to one of the front chairs.

"I am fine," I can't help but chuckle.

"I wish you wouldn't treat me like I am fragile." He nodded and smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry, I can't help it. I want to make sure that you are okay. This is our first child, after all."

And to think that he didn't even want a child not long ago. I can't stay mad at him forever, though. So I laugh once more and kiss him on his cheeks.

"Really, I am fine and this baby is okay. I am not even that far away, we just found out. Are you going to act like this the entire time?"

"I just want to make sure that our child is safe. I will stop pestering you now." He nodded before he left me to go stand next to Jasper.

I wanted to be a part of the wedding, especially for one this unique but Alisha had literally taken over the entire planning and refused to let even Doris have a say. I guess that was Doris's own fault for putting Alisha in charge. Jasper seemed very happy, he was grinning from ear to ear and he couldn't stop fidgeting with his suit. Bernard swiped his hand away from fiddling with the hem of the jacket and laughed at him. Jasper was so nervous, he couldn't hide it. To think that they actually ended up together, was quite a surprise, honestly.

I am still holding it against them both for not telling me sooner but as long as they were happy, that was all that matters. Once it was time for the bride to appear, the crowd of wolves hushed. All I could hear was the trickling of the small creek behind the arch and the happy chirps of the birds above us. It was truly a magical place to be especially one to be married in. The sun was just beginning to set, so the beautiful hues of the sky broke through the cracks in the treetops and set the aisle aglow. Along with the dancing fairy lights that were also held by a bunch of the children up in the branches, Doris appeared.

She is ethereal, the lights swayed, lighting up different parts of her dress at a time. She glimmered like a diamond, dancing in the lights. Her hair lay in long ringlets over one shoulder as her veil just barely hid her beautiful face. At the top of her hair was a silver crown curved like branches, jutting out in all directions. She moved, barefoot, down the aisle. Her bouquet was a mixture of flowers from the garden and roses. Her dress displayed her collarbone and shoulder, the top fabric translucent. It was dotted with sparkles that blended with her skin tone, making it seem that the dress was a part of her. She really went all out, didn't she?

I was a little jealous of the dress and the amount of thought that had gone into the wedding venue but I knew that my wedding had been perfect. Mainly because I was with Bernard and that's all that mattered but also because it was our union and we had all of our loved ones with us just like Doris did. It was the only thing that mattered for a wedding. I swear, Jasper was crying as Doris walked towards him but he blinked the tears away and pretended like he wasn't.

When Doris made it to the front, Jasper grabbed her hands and kissed them both. Bernard then stood up between them and began the ceremony, it wasn't like that of the humans. The packs each had their own tradition and it seemed like each couple did as well. Jasper and Doris were a bit different than what Bernard and I had done for our wedding which was okay, of course. They opted for the rope trying which bound their arms together, holding them as one person. Bernard announced a special verse whilst doing so and that was a prayer to the moon goddess itself. To protect the couple against all outsiders and to keep their love strong.

Dori, of course, started crying immediately. At least I had lasted longer than she did, Jasper was still trying to act tough but I saw him sniffed a few times. They were adorable together and the wedding was blissful and happy. The darkness was all in our past and we wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. I didn't have to take over my old Pack and I could stay here with Bernard in peace especially since my old Pack is now led by my cousin.

During the ceremony, Bernard continued to steal glances in my direction. He was constantly watching me as though something was going to happen to me. Like I would combust on the spot or something, we weren't even sure how far along I was, probably only a few weeks, maybe less. He was so overbearing, it was odd yet comforting.

The rest of the ceremony and the reception went smoothly. Doris was sitting in Jasper's lap the rest of the night, she ate out of his hands. It made me even more embarrassed, I had to leave early, exhaustion taking over me. My wounds were healed but I wasn't completely a hundred percent especially being pregnant now. I had no idea that the first few weeks could make me nauseous like this. What will the rest of the pregnancy be like?

******Eight months on******

Life was great, other than the constant bulge of my stomach that continued to get bigger every day. Jasper and Doris had taken several months to travel and sight-see before returning and telling us all about what they saw. We set up weekly dinners with everyone in our house so that we could keep in contact as Bernard expanded the Pack and continued running things even as my pregnancy neared its end.

Today is Sunday and we are having dinner in our house with everyone. Once we were done, they stood up and helped the maids to take away the dishes. I tried to do so with my giant belly but Bernard was at my side immediately, helping me up.

"I told you that I am fine." I huffed.

"I am just trying to help."

He is adorable when he pouts, especially when I refuse to give in to his whining.

"I am fine, we still have a couple of weeks. I am not going to pop right now." Bernard signed but eventually deflated and nodded.

"Okay, okay. I get it."

"I can't believe it, Elena, you did it. I never thought I would see the day that you would be having a child." Doris leaned forward and choked me with a hug.

"Me either, to be honest." I laughed but teetered back a fraction as my belly redistributed some of the weight. Bernard was so against it from the very beginning that it was very odd.

"Oh, I am sorry." Doris backed off and gently touched my stomach before lowering her hand.

"How are you feeling?"

Everyone kept asking me that, it was actually kind of annoying.

"I am fine and the baby is fine too. We were both healthy." Doris grinned.

"Great, that is amazing. I am so happy for you guys."

"Me too, thank you." Alisha popped up from behind me.

"It only took forever." She sighed, she had her son propped up on her hip as she swayed back and forth keeping him entertained.

"You know I tried." I was able to joke about it now that it wasn't an issue and that Bernard was happy that I was pregnant.

"Bernard just wasn't ready."

Suddenly, there was a sharp pain that shot through my stomach and tightened around the bump. I grunted and held my stomach as I almost fell. That was the most painful feeling I have had in a long time.

"Well, he better be ready now." Alisha teased.

"Because the baby is coming,"

"What do you mean?" I asked but before she answered, another shooting pain crossed my stomach. What is this?

"Seriously? The baby is coming. You are in labor, Elena." Alisha waved her hand around to try and get me to understand.

"No, that is not possible, I still have a few weeks to go."

"Looks like your child wants to come now." Doris laughed before turning around.

"Bernard! The baby is coming!"

Bernard was at my side in the blink of an eye and had me in his arms.

"Liam will be on standby."

"It is that big of a deal, it's just some small cont ... .ah!"

The pain was getting worse. Had Alisha really gone through the same thing? Bernard bolted through the town avoiding everyone that was standing in the way. He was right, Liam was waiting for us when we reached the hospital. He was prepped and ready as the nurses helped to get me on the bed. Liam paused and looked me in the eye.

"Are you ready?"

"Uh, not really, no!" I wasn't prepared for this and I am not even sure if I could handle it.

"Well, you better get ready because this child isn't going to wait for you." Liam shrugged before the nurses helped me change my clothes. He delved under to check the infant and my husband was by my side, holding my hand.

I looked up at him and knew at that moment that he was what made the world bearable. He is my mate and soon we will have a child.
