Chapter 134: Wedding Preparations

Chapter 134: Wedding Preparations

Elena

This was not how we intended on telling his parents about the wedding date but there was never going to be a perfect time.

Elizabeth, as expected, was against us rushing things but she had no good reason as to why we should wait. After a lot of back and forth, she finally agreed. She preferred not to disagree with me on things and I could tell that she wanted us to grow close and have a genuine mother-and-daughter type of relationship.

I was on the kitchen island, drinking coffee. Elizabeth had insisted that we get an early start to our wedding day preparation. I could have handled planning things on my own but I knew there were certain customs and traditions that needed to be followed. I wanted to include her in the celebration, she had extended her olive branch and I wanted to extend mine as well.

Bernard made his way downstairs, rubbing his sleepy eyes, trying to get rid of sleep in them. He walked to me and placed a kiss on my head.

"Good morning, my love." His morning voice was every she-wolf fantasy. If he weren't my mate, I knew I still would have the biggest crush on him.

"Good morning, you are up early." He moved to the coffee machine and poured himself a mug.

"I have to meet with Liam and talk about the integrators, some of them told us they had an interest in becoming doctors. Liam needs to assess them first and see if they are capable of handling the job."

The people from Richard's Pack are now called the integrators, I was happy that Bernard had welcomed my idea to join my people to his Pack, many Alphas would have refused.

"That's great, how long would it take to teach them?"

He moved away from the machine and made his way back to where I was sitting. He pulled my seat closer to his so that I was now in between his legs.

"On average, for basic nursing jobs, it takes about two years and one year of practical training. But they could also go through the apprenticeship route which would allow them to get hands in earlier on." I nodded.

"So," he brushed away a stray hair from my face.

"Are you ready to spend the day with my mother?"

"Would it be bad if I say I am kind of scared?"

"No," he chuckled.

"After how your relationship with her started, I can't blame you but I know my mother, she really wants to try with you. I just want the two of you to give each other a chance."

"I will try, for you."

I heard the front door open and a few seconds later, Elizabeth entered the kitchen. She was dressed more casually than I had ever seen her before. Her hair wasn't tied today and it actually looked good on her.

"Good morning, Elena." She smiled at me and then turned to her son.

"Could you not have put on a shirt, my boy? You know your mother is coming." He rolled his eyes.

"Good morning, mother. I just wanted to spend time with Elena before you take her from me."

"I will bring her back in one piece."

"You better do!" He turned to me.

"Enjoy your day, my love. If you need anything, I am only one call away." I nodded.

He leaned forward and placed a kiss that lasted a bit too long for his mother. She cleared her throat and I felt Bernard's smile through the kiss before he pulled away.

"Have fun," he winked and got up.

He walked to his mother and kissed her cheeks before exiting the kitchen.

"Ready?" She asked.

I set my coffee mug down and grabbed my handbag from the table and followed behind her. As we stepped outside, I was greeted by the cold chill of the morning air. We walked to her car and drove off, the ride was silent until we came to a stop at a big boutique.

"The boutique is open at this time?" It was just a few minutes past seven in the morning.

"No, but I asked for a favor from them. This is one of the many perks of being a Luna, well former Luna."

We got out of the car and went inside the building. A lady that was wearing a black pantsuit and had her hair slicked back greeted us. She led us into the store but then I stopped short when I saw the people sitting in the white couches. They stood up immediately when they saw us. I looked at Elizabeth with tears brimming in my eyes.

"I knew that you would want to share this special moment with your friends, so I invited them."

Sitting on the couch were Jack, Alisha and Veronica, these three had been pillars of strength for me. Without them, I don't think I would have stayed in this Pack, they made a huge impact on my life. I pulled Elizabeth into a huge.

"Thank you, Elizabeth. This means more to me than you will ever know." She returned my hug and her shoulder relaxed a bit.

If this was any indication of how the day was going to be, I was in for a good day.

Wedding dress shopping was an absolute dream, as a little girl, I had dreamed of my wedding a few times. I dreamed of what my dress would look like, what colors I would choose for my bridesmaids, and what theme I would choose.

The dress I picked was everything I could have hoped for and more. I had to be careful not to let Bernard into my mind so he wouldn't see it. I wanted to surprise him on that day but the reaction I had gotten from my friends made me burst into tears and I knew I had found the win.

By the time we were done, it was already lunchtime, and headed to the cafe l, it was time for cake testing. When we got to the bakery, we found Veronica's husband at the register taking down the orders. I hadn't been in the bakery ever since I assumed my position as Luna. It was so good to see him in the bakery, I knew having her husband here at work made her very happy.

We made ourselves comfortable and waited for Veronica to come out with cake samples. Bernard walked into the bakery shortly.

"We can't pick the cake without the groom." Elizabeth smiled at us.

"I know most people say the wedding is for the bride but I believe it is meant to be an experience for both the groom and the bride. You will only do this once and planning your special day together brings you two even closer." Bern placed his hand on top of mine and smiled.

"I couldn't have said it better myself, mother."

Veronica came out with three trays, each had seven small cubes of different flavored cakes.

"Okay," she placed the trays in front of us and it contained every type of variety of cake one could think of.

I loved every single flavor, if I could have it my way, I would pick all the flavors for my big day. But in the end, we decided on vanilla for the first cake and milk chocolate for the second one.

The exercise had been a surpassingly pleasant experience for me, I was seeing new sides of Elizabeth today and I loved it. I know we are still far away from becoming best friends but gradually we will get there.

"Before we leave…." Elizabeth dug into her bag and pulled out a black velvet box. It was too big for a ring, too small to hold any kind of big jewelry.

"As you know, every bride should have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Your new would be your wedding dress, your blue is obviously your engagement ring and I was hoping that this could tick off something borrowed and something old."

She opened the box, I gasped when I saw the diamond encrusted hairpiece. The light danced on the expensive stone, I looked at her with my eyes widened.

"It is a family heirloom, I wore it for my wedding and the Luna before me, it has been passed down from Luna to Luna within the Joseph family and now I want you to wear it on your wedding day." I was speechless.

"Elizabeth, this is….I can't….wow." I couldn't even form coherent sentences. I squeezed Bernard's hand and judging from the look he was also giving his mother, I knew that he was just as shocked as I was.

"I want to grow a relationship with you, Elena, and I want to be part of your life and you a part of mine. You will become my daughter once you marry my son and I want to treat you like the daughter I never had."

These had been the exact words that I had wanted to hear from Elizabeth Joseph.
