Chapter 35: She Is My Everything
Chapter thirty-five: She Is My Everything
Bernard
I was staring at the wall for an hour now, the night was creeping into the early hours of the morning and my mind was wide awake. After Helen left in an outrageous state, I slept for only an hour before my body woke me up, the pain eased and some energy returned to my body.
I wanted nothing more than to jump out of this bed and go and find my mate but I needed to be patient because she was in good hands with Liam. I trusted him with my life and I knew he would take care of her even if he didn't know who she truly was to me. I contemplated telling my best friend about her, I knew I could trust him with anything in my life. But I was confused about Elena myself but not anymore. I knew what I wanted and I wanted a fiery redhead who managed to set my entire heart on fire in a matter of a few days.
It was crazy to think that I only knew her just over a week but I felt like I had known her all my life. I knew even before I accepted that she was my perfect missing piece. I hadn't known I had been missing. She complimented me in every way possible. I felt the smile creep onto my face as I thought about her. There is still so much I didn't know about her and also there is a lot she is hiding but I knew in time, she would let her guard down with me and let me in. I am her mate, after all, there is no way she could continuously keep me locked out.
I heard a knock at my door and l looked at the clock, it was almost two o'clock in the morning. Who is knocking at my door at this hour?
"Come in." I responded as I sat up straight on my bed and looked at the door. It opened and one of the least people I expected to see at this hour walked in.
"Alpha." Ivory bowed her head in greeting.
"Come in, Ivory. We are friends, there is no need for all that." I gestured for her to come in. She shut the door behind her and walked into my room.
Ivory had been my girlfriend for almost three years, we dated from freshman to junior year of high school but then broke up after we realized that we weren't fated mates. The breakup was amicable and we remained friends ever since then. She walked up to the side of my bed, and her light blue eyes looked over me in concern. Her raven black hair was down and left in an unruly state. This was so out of sorts for her, she was never one to look not put together. Something is wrong.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, she was concerned about me but I was more concerned about what had her on edge.
"I am fine." I looked into her eyes.
"Something is not fine with you, tell me what happened." I said to her, I didn't love her in the way I used to. That love morphed and changed from something romantic to something familial. She is part of my family whether we were blood related or not and when I saw her now, I saw a little sister who needed her big brother's protection.
"Who is Elena?" That was the last thing I expected to come out of her mouth.
"How did you know her?" I tried to keep the shock out of my voice. Where it concerned Elena, I would protect her at all costs against anyone including myself.
"Who is she, Bernard?" She asked again.
"Why are you asking, Ivory?" She let out an exasperated sigh.
"Because I think she may be in danger. Now, who is she to you, Bernard?" Instantly, my wolf was on high alert.
"What do you mean that she is in danger? What are you talking about, Ivory?" She bit her lips nervously as she tried to organize her thoughts. l had known this girl long enough to know when she was conflicted about something.
"I went to your house to go and grab a form. I needed you to sign from your office. But when I got into your house, I overheard your mother and Helen speaking in the kitchen." She paused, waiting to gauge my reaction. I nodded for her to continue.
"Long story cut short, Helen was upset about some girl named Elena and said that they were going to get rid of her so that she can have you all to herself." My blood turned to ice in my veins.
"What do you mean get rid of her? As in, they want to kill her?" She shrugged.
"They hadn't really settled on a solid plan as of yet but they were going to make it seem as though she killed herself or she was killed by rogues so you would think she was dead." The initial shock drained from my body and in its place came a wave of fiery hot anger. From Helen, I somehow expected it, although not to this extent but I had expected it. My mother? It was shocking to think she would do something so cruel.
My mother knew that Elena was a friend and yet she took Helen's side and decided to support her in this. I wonder if she knew the truth of who Elena is, would she have done the same thing? My heart wanted to tell me no, she wouldn't have but my gut told me otherwise. This is only because my mother was so completely taken by Helen. It is like she wanted to marry her by herself.
"When did you hear them speaking about this?"
"A few minutes ago, I ran out of the house and came straight here." She responded.
"Did they see you?" She shook her head.
"No, I had been listening from the foyer and there was no one at the house besides the two of them and some guards outside." This is good, no one had seen her which means that they wouldn't have any reason to believe I knew about their plans. I am going to use this to my advantage.
"Thank you for telling me, Ivory." I placed my much larger hand on top of hers.
"Let's just keep this information between the two of us for now, okay?" She nodded, placing her hand on top of mine. I felt no warmth or sparks surging through my arm. The only woman who was ever going to be capable of giving me those feelings was Elena.
I pulled my hand from hers and gave her a small smile. She returned my gesture and we fell into a comfortable silence for a moment.
"Can I ask you something?" I nodded.
"Who is she to you?" I tried to feign a misunderstanding.
"Who?" She gave me an incredulous look.
"Don't play dumb with me, Bernard." I sighed.
"She is someone very important to me, Ivory. That is all there is to it." She nodded her head in understanding but I could see the wheels turning in her head. She was trying to work out whether or not I was lying but I wasn't.
Elena is someone extremely important to me, to put it simply, she is my everything. I was hers before I even knew she existed. It took me some time to come to terms with it but I finally accepted what was predestined before I even took my first breath.
"Have you known her for long?" I shook my head as the smile crept onto my face.
"No, but it feels like I have known her all my life." Her lips lifted.
"You smile when you think of her." She said.
"I can't help it, there is just something about her that radiates joy and happiness and it just catches onto me." Ivory cast her eyes downwards as she fiddled with her fingers.
"Are you in love with her?" She asked.
I knew I was in love with her, there was not a single doubt in my mind about that but I couldn't tell Ivory that. I needed to keep my true feelings hidden, so I laughed to add to my lie.
"I have only known her for less than a month, Ivory. I am not in love with Elena, I barely know the girl." She looked confused.
"Yet, she is important to you even though you have known her less than a month." I nodded without hesitation.
"Strange, isn't it? But our feelings don't need to make sense or be rational for them to be true?" She allowed my words to sink into her before she spoke again.
"If she is important to you, Bernard then you need to protect her at all costs. Helen and your mother don't seem to be playing around with this plan of theirs."
"I know." My head was already turning with ways in which I could counter whatever attack they had planned.
Elena is the most important thing to me now and I will protect her with my life. To hell with the Pack, my Alpha word, and Helen Elison. Elena and I belong together and I am tired of running from the truth.
