Chapter 84: Over reacted
Chapter eighty-four: Over reacted
Elena
Maybe I have overreacted in his office but I also feel like I was making sense. Bernard wanted to fight his Beta on an issue that hadn't even happened. Maybe it was more of his wolf talking than him but that didn't make the situation any better. I was trying to help the situation but Bernard made me feel different about it.
In the process of trying to make sure that Bernard and Nicholas were on the same side, I had just placed us on opposite sides. This was our first big official fight and I didn't know how to handle it, to be honest. A lot was said in his office and I wished it could be unsaid but that couldn't be possible. I know he was upset about me working in the bakery but I didn't know it had affected him to that extent.
A part of me felt guilty that maybe I should have done better, maybe I should have just listened to him and quit my job at the bakery but then I would have been burdened with the 'what if' I got the opportunity to do what I wanted. I was set to become Luna in a few months and my life was about to flip. My life would not be my own anymore but instead, it would belong to the Pack. My needs and wants would be pushed to the back burner as I focused all my attention on the Pack.
I wanted to go to the gamma's house and wanted nothing more than to lock myself in my room and cry for a little bit. Today had not gone according to plan at all, I just needed to sleep off this horrible feeling and I would wake up tomorrow and talk to my mate about everything. I was walking up the stairs when I saw Jack who had the biggest grin on his face.
"Luna," he teased.
"Jack!" I looked around to see if anyone was around.
"You can't say that to me."
"I know, I just like messing with you. It is kind of fun to see your reactions." I rolled my eyes.
My previous worries faded into the background. Jack's energy had a way of bringing out the happiness in someone and I loved it.
"How are you doing today?" I shrugged.
"Could be better, how are you?"
"I am okay, I just got off work early." He then looked at me concerned.
"What is wrong with you? I thought you would be at the Alpha's house after your shift?"
"We kind of got into an argument and it is not something I want to talk about right now."
"That is fine, we don't have to talk about anything. Do you want to go to the cafeteria with me? I haven't eaten anything since the morning and I am so hungry right now."
A few moments ago, I had wanted nothing more than the comfort of my bed but now being around Jack's energy, I knew I needed company. Besides I will just be thinking about the situation continuously in my head but if I stay with Jack then I would be in for a belly laugh and a relaxed time. We walked to the cafeteria and we entered, we found Alisha sitting at the table eating alone.
"Ali!" I waved to her.
"Come on, Jack, we can sit with Alisha."
We walked to the table and settled in, Alisha put the book she had been reading down and looked at me and then at Jack.
"Jack, this is Alisha." I introduced them to each other.
"We know each other." They said at the same time and then laughed.
"We just don't really speak to each other but I know who Jack is."
"Didn't we also go to school together? I think you were in my algebra class and my biology class as well." Alisha nodded and I could see a small tint of pink come to her cheek. This is interesting, I looked between the two of them for a moment and thought that they would actually look good together if they ever decided to take the plunge.
"I am going to go get some food, Elena. Do you want anything?" Jack asked and I shook my head.
"So, how are you?" Alisha asked as she turned to me.
"I am okay, I just got into a little argument with Bernard in his office. I think that was our first official fight."
"Are you okay? What was the fight all about?"
"If you don't mind, I don't really want to talk about it right now. I just want to focus on having a good time with you guys and forgetting what happened between me and Bernard." She nodded in understanding.
"But just know that I am here for you always."
"I know, so how are you?"
"I am good, I had gone to the bakery to pick up some food not too long ago. I love the way Veronica makes her bread, it is better than anything I have ever tasted really."
"Yes, I actually wanted to ask you something."
"Go ahead." She muttered.
"You know Veronica's mate?" She nodded and waited for me to proceed.
"Well, she told me that he doesn't come to the bakery all that often because he is in a wheelchair. I wanted to help fix that." Her ears perked up with interest.
"I was thinking, why can't I take him to Liam so he could maybe try to heal him and see if he could help him walk again."
"Help who walks again?" Jack settled down into his seat with a packed plate of food.
"Veronica's husband, I will make him walk again." Both of them looked at each other for a moment before their eyes turned back to me. They were looking at me strangely and I didn't understand why.
"What?" I asked them.
"His accident was pretty bad. He got those injuries in a fight and his spine practically snapped in half. The fact he is alive is a miracle itself." Alisha said slowly as if she was trying to tell me a hidden message behind her words.
"Okay." I looked between them.
"So, I don't understand what that has to do with me helping him."
"What Alisha was trying to say here is that he is as healed as will ever be. There is nothing more a doctor can do now and not even a gifted and skilled doctor like Liam can heal him."
"But, how do you guys know that? Has Liam ever examined him or looked at how far his spine has come since his initial injury?" They both shook their heads.
"You see, you guys don't even know whether or not his injury is treatable or not."
"No, we don't but we are also trying to be realistic as well. I don't want you to get your hopes and pray for a miracle when there isn't a chance of getting one."
I knew my hopes were high but I had to have faith and believe. I knew as a Luna, I would need to be practical and realistic when it came to issues regarding the pack members and the Pack as a whole. But there had always been a dreamer inside me who hoped for the things that seemed impossible to happen.
"How about maybe we try some other alternative but you can also try your idea and go ask Liam and see what he can do for you. There is no harm in trying." Alisha tried to aid the situation.
She is right, I could ask Liam if what I was thinking was possible but then I could also work on more practical and effective ways of helping Veronica's husband.
"Okay, so do you guys have any ideas? I am open to any suggestions at this point."
"Well, we could try and make the bakery more wheelchair friendly. We could add in a ramp, for example, that is a quick and easy fix. It can even be done in a day, also we could add a handle on the bathroom for him. This way he can come into the bakery without needing to worry." I liked that idea.
"That is a really good idea, Alisha." Jack complimented her and again I saw the pink hue come to her cheeks and I am certain that Alisha may have had a little crush on Jack. I would ask her about it later when we were in private.
"I liked the idea. So, we can work on that, then I will go and ask Liam if what I want for him is even medically possible." They both nodded.
Just wait Veronica, I am about to change your husband's life and if I couldn't, I would just settle for making the bakery more accessible to him and other handicapped customers.
