Chapter 192: Life Is Just Crazy
Chapter 192: Life Is Just Crazy
Jasper
I had been putting this off for far too long, we had gone through so many ups and downs. After I had talked to Elena the other day at the hospital, I knew what I needed to do. It had taken a lot of preparation and a whole lot of secrecy to get everything done but I had finally gotten it all ready. Today is the day that I am going to propose to the woman of my dreams, it took me almost losing her three times for me to finally see it.
There was no one else for me, Doris Mark is the last, she is my sunshine and my warmth. She is my air, I couldn't live without her. I stared down at the ring in the small box, I had picked this ring out a week ago, it was a princess cut 6-carat diamond ring. It was subtle but still Strikingly beautiful just like Doris.
"Are you ready for this?" Bernard came up behind me and patted me on the back.
"Yes, I am ready to take it. I have wasted enough time already. Doris told me that she wanted and needed stability and this is exactly that. I can't imagine my life without her." He stood there smiling at me like an idiot.
"What?"
"Nothing, it is just that I have never seen you so happy and determined before. Doris has really changed something in you." I hummed in agreement.
"She is the best part of who I am, she makes me a better man which in turn makes me a better Beta for this Pack." He let out a soft chuckle.
"That is the same way I feel about Elena, there is something about our women that strengthens us. They gave us a sense of purpose, it is like we have more to fight, more to live for." I pulled a face.
"Well, look at you, Shakespeare. I don't know that you could be so happy, Bern." He waved me off.
"I only speak from the heart and you know I am right. Doris has changed you, man. She brought a light to you that hadn't been there before."
He is right, she has changed me in the best way possible. We have been together for a couple of weeks now and a few people would have thought we were moving too fast but I didn't think so at all, this felt right. I knew that she was still waiting for the other shoe to drop with me but she would be waiting for a lifetime because that was not happening any time soon. I am all in and I only hope that she is all in with me too.
"Is everything set up?" I looked at Bernard and he nodded.
"Yes, the pier is decorated and ready. I will go and pick her up in the next twenty minutes, so that should give you some time to make your way there." I nodded, got up, and pocketed the box.
I am taking us back to the lake where Elena had set us up on our blind date. I wanted us to rectify the memory we had created that day. I wanted to wipe away all the negativity that the place held for us and replace it with a positive memory.
I left my house and made my way to the lake, all the way there, my heart thundered in my chest. I rarely got nervous about things but now I could feel each and every butterfly in my gut. She is the first woman I had ever felt anything for, she is the first woman that made me feel alive. She is the first woman I wanted to be soft for, so this needed to go perfectly. It needed to go right for me. The ring felt like it weighed a ton inside my pocket.
When I got to the lake, I made sure that everything was put together nicely and I placed myself in a position where I wouldn't be seen. Then my phone buzzed and I looked down at the screen.
"On our way." Bernard's message.
It was showtime, there was no turning back now. Their estimated arrival time was ten minutes but it felt like they took an hour and some to finally get to where I was. I heard their voices in the far-off distance, I had instructed Bernard to blindfold her so she wouldn't see where she was going.
"Bernard, I swear if this is some kind of prank, I will be so mad." I heard her voice in the distance complaining.
I already knew that she was on the edge because I had purposely ignored her the whole day. I had told her that I would be busy for today and she said that it was fine but I knew her. Was that a little cruel of me to do so? Maybe but I knew she would enjoy the surprise that much more.
They drew closer and closer and my heart thudded harder and harder in my chest. When I heard their footsteps in the woods of the dock, I stepped out from behind the tree I had been hiding behind. Bernard looked at me and gave me a thumbs up, he placed her on the dock and then slowly began to back away.
"Can I take it off now, Bernard?"
"Yes, you can." I replied.
Her body viably stilled before her hands went to the blindfold that was around her eyes. She blinked a few times to allow her eyes to get adjusted to the lighting. Her eyes landed on me and she gasped when she realized where we were. I had recreated the blind date Elena had set up right down to the cutlery on the table. I wanted a complete do-over.
"Jasper?" She was in complete shock.
"What is going on?"
"The last time we were here, it wasn't the best. So, I wanted us to have a do-over because you deserve it. I think we both do."
I closed the distance between us and got down on my knees, her eyes widened and her hand came over her mouth in shock.
"Doris Mark, you have set my heart on fire, you are every good moment and every light in my life. Life seems easier to do with you by my side, I have never felt this way about anyone in my life. We may not be fated in the literal sense but I believe that you were made just for me."
I dug my hand into my pocket and pulled out the box that was burning a hole through my fabric. I opened the box and presented it to her.
"Doris Mark, you are the love of my life, I love you more than life itself. Will you do me the extraordinary honor of being my wife?"
I could see the tears welling in her eyes, she stared at me in complete disbelief. This is where our roads had finally let us. She removed her hands from her mouth and stared at me. For a moment, I was scared that she would say no. In the whole process leading up to now, it hadn't once crossed my mind that she would say no to me but now, kneeling in front of her, I had my doubts.
"You," she choked out.
"You don't know how long I have been waiting to hear you say those words to me. I know I haven't been the easiest person to deal with but you have always been there and you were patient with me. You never pushed me beyond where I was comfortable and you never made me feel any less appreciated."
"So, is that a yes?" I laughed nervously, still holding the ring out to her.
"You still haven't given me a yes or a no but I really hope you say yes."
"Of course, I will marry you." She smiled through her tears.
I took the ring out and slid it into her finger and it was the perfect fit. I stood up and circled my arms around her waist and spun her around, she let out a fit of laughter which was music to my ears. She captured my lips in hers, sealing it with a kiss. I love her more than life itself.
When I sat her down, she looked down at her finger where I had put the ring on, she stared at it in awe.
"Did I do good?" I asked, she looked at me beaming.
"You did so well and I loved it. I can't believe I am an engaged woman right now."
"Yes, and we are going to get married."
"We are getting married? " she squealed and threw her arms over my neck.
"This is the easiest yes of my life." I pressed my lips against hers.
I had gone from having a girlfriend to a fiancee in the space of one week. Life is just crazy.
