Chapter 97: Leave My Pack

Chapter ninety-seven: Leave My Pack.

Bernard

"Do you need me to come with you?" Elena asked me for the tenth time.

"No, I would rather have you here and safe than you be anywhere close to my mother. She had already shown me how far she is willing to go to keep us apart and I don't want her close to you." She nodded in understanding.

After our little moment in the gamma's house, I took her back to my house. I needed some time alone with my mate after having been away from her for so long. I felt like a new man, I was revitalized and my energy had returned. It was like one moment my entire heart had been breaking and the next, it was whole and complete again. I stepped forward and cupped her face with my hands.

"I will be back before you know it. I just need to take care of this, then I am all yours." She pouted slightly.

"I know, it is just that I don't want you to fight with your mother. I knew she did a lot of mean and horrible stuff but she is still your mother, she will be my mother-in-law eventually." I moved my hands to her hips and I pulled her in so she flushed against me.

"I can't wait to make you my wife one day, Elena." She let out a soft chuckle.

"So, you got nothing from what I had just said? Wow, great talk then." I could hear the teasing tone in her voice and I knew she wasn't upset.

"It is sweet of you to care, my love but my mother put our relationship through the wringer. I had told her once before to behave herself but she seems to have forgotten. She may be my mother but I am still her Alpha and she needs to respect my word." She rested her palm on my chest, her touch warmed my blood and I felt the peace wash over me.

She was the only person who had this effect on me and I loved it. She is my peace, she brought a light to my world that had never been there before.

"Just be careful, I don't want you to go to war with your mother for me."

"I would go to war with the moon goddess herself if need be, my love." She blushed under my gaze.

I love the way she reacted to me, the way she shivered at my touch. The way she leaned into my body when I kissed her, and the way she sought out my touch every so often. I didn't know how we had survived being away from each other for days, I never wanted to be apart from her ever again. I didn't care if she wanted to fight me on it but we were moving in together. I don't want to spend more unnecessary time apart.

The whole Pack would have known about what happened at the gamma's house. There was no point in hiding it anymore, we were together and the whole pack knew. Although there has not been an official announcement yet, she is now the Luna of this Pack. No one knew that she was my mate yet because I had been linked to Helen for so long but they would learn soon enough. I would give a public address to the Pack as soon as tonight if I could, I just needed to tie up all my loose ends. I leaned towards Elena and captured her lips into a gentle kiss.

I pulled away with a smile spread wide across my face, her eyes were still closed and she was biting down on her lips.

"I love you."

She opened her eyes and saw the small twinkle behind her sapphire gaze. I had never seen eyes so beautiful in my entire life and I wasn't just saying that because she is my mate."

"I love you, too."

"I will see you later, make yourself at home. Father should be upstairs cleaning some stuff, you don't have to help him. I will come and finish up what he can't manage."

"No, I want to, I will keep my mind busy and away from worrying too much."

"Okay."

I gave her one lingering kiss before I left her and exited out of the house. I knew I was about to get into it with my mother but I couldn't wipe the grin from my face. Elena is the answer to every prayer I have ever prayed. I had thought I had lost her and now, I had her back, I am never letting go ever again. I got into my car and made my way to my parent's house.

I made it to the house within ten minutes and I hopped out of the car. I had no idea what I was going to say but I knew that I had to make sure this was the last time I would speak to my mother about these issues. I walked up the stairs of the porch and made my way into the house. I stepped into the foyer and waited to see if I could catch her scent wafting from somewhere in the house. I turned left and made my way to the kitchen, the scent was stronger there.

I walked through the archway to the kitchen and found her with a plate of cookies and a glass of wine in her hand. When she saw me, she got off the seat and brushed away the crumbs from her face. She looked a little bit off but other than that, she seemed like my well-put-together mother.

"Bernard," she smiled gently.

"I am so happy to see you out of your room and moving again. How are you feeling, my boy?"

"Cut the crap, mother. I know what you did." The smile left her face.

"I don't know what you mean son. What exactly did I do?"

"You are the one that spread those horrible rumors about Elena and Jack." I stepped forward.

"I want to know why?" She continued to feign innocence.

"Son, I have no idea what you are talking about. You are behaving like your father, I can't believe you two think the very worst of me."

"Just stop it, mother. The more you lie, the harder you will make it for yourself down the line. You are standing in front of your Alpha and I expect you to never lie in front of me." I narrowed my eyes on her.

"So, I ask again, why did you start the rumor?" She folded her arms over her chest.

"She is not right for you, Bernard. Why can you not see that? She is simply using you for your title. We know nothing about her, she is a rogue that came out of nowhere and seemingly can't remember a thing about herself and you want to make her your Luna? What if she belongs to an enemy Pack?"

"I know enough about her, mother. I love her and she will be my wife. We may not have completed the mate bond yet but we will soon do that." She scoffed.

"Over my dead body, I would die long before I let you complete the bond with that girl." I slammed my hand on the granite countertops, causing her to jump.

"It is not your decision, mother, it is mine. If you can't respect my relationship with Elena then I will have to exile you from this Pack." She gasped.

"You wouldn't dare."

"But I would, mother. You are threatening my mate and any attack on my mate is an attack on me. An attack on the Alpha is treason and is punishable by death. But seeing as you are my mother, I won't execute you for the sake of my father but I will banish you."

"You would throw away your own
mother for that girl? Did you hear yourself?"

"Yes!" I took another menacing step towards her.

"I heard myself louder and clearer. And not only will you learn to behave yourself but you will apologize to Elena."

"I will do no such thing."

"Then leave my Pack. I will not accept any kind of disrespect towards my mate. You either choose to comply with my laws or not at all."

She looked like she wanted to fight me but her shoulder sagged when she saw the look in my eyes. There was no way she was winning this against me. She would yield to me not only as her son but as her Alpha. She needed to do this for me.

"I am glad we understand each other." I stepped away from her and started walking towards the door, I am done here.

"Bernard?" She called after me, I turned to face her.

"If you were ever forced to choose between me and her, who would it be?"

"Her," I didn't hesitate.

"It will be her every single time. So you would be wise not to make me choose because it won't be you."

I turned my heels and left her standing in her kitchen, looking at me shocked and slightly hurt. I didn't mean to hurt her and I didn't enjoy seeing her sad. But the petty victory she wanted would compromise my happiness and that wasn't happening.

In time, she would learn to love Elena but for now, I would accept baby steps towards that kind of relationship.
