Chapter 185: His Confession

Chapter 185: His Confession

Bernard

For an Alpha like Ronald, my threat didn't seem to faze him. Maybe he thought that he could kill me right here now, taking ownership of my pack and combining the two territories. He could do exactly that, but I was sure as hell be damn if I didn't take him down with me. Besides, Liam wouldn't allow him to become Alpha either. He would be next in line if Jasper and I died today.

I know Liam would stand up to Ronald and cut him down in order to protect our people from his wicked rule. No outside Alpha was ever going to take over our home. I didn't even want to expand our territory but if that's what it took to take Ronald down and take revenge for Elena, I would gladly do that.

"Bernard," Ronald blubbered about, his mind reeling with ways to get out of this situation and l could see the gears shifting.

"Please, don't do this."

"I want you to admit what you did!"

My patience was running thin and I wasn't sure how much longer I could hold onto my wolf. It wanted freedom and it was going to get information out of Ronald one way or another.

"Alpha Bernard, don't do this. Are you willing to start a war?" One of his men called out from the nearby tent.

I couldn't remember his hand but I was sure that he was the Beta and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. He was definitely the one that needed to be a part of negotiations for sure. He was able to keep his emotions out of any decisions but right now, I suppose that he wanted to protect his Pack and his Alpha from conflict.

"I want his confession, nothing more!" I barked out, maybe a bit too harshly.

"I don't want war but if Ronald sees fit to take his actions towards the attack on my mate to the grave, I will gladly be obliged."

Jasper's instinctive move and I had my clawed hand on Ronald's hair, I ripped him to his knees. His Pack didn't deserve to be slaughtered because their Alpha was a selfish and cruel man.

"You can't do this to our Pack." His Beta gritted but remained where he was and didn't even make a move to get closer, at least he was smart.

"This is my territory that I had graciously allowed you to stay on. If you don't like it, go back to your own land."

"Then we will." His Beta nodded but it was a bit too enthusiastic and I tried to laugh.

"Oh, but not before Ronald confesses everything."

"You can't make me do anything." Ronald bit out before he spat at my feet. My wolf enjoyed that, quite a bit actually and I leaned down towards him.

"Are you trying to call my wolf out?"

How eyes widened once more and I could see my reflection in them. The sheer enjoyment that was staring back at me caused my wolf to become more frantic.

"No one touches my mate, I want you to tell me exactly what happened and why. Doesn't your Pack deserve to know why you betrayed one of the only Alpha that was your ally?"

His warriors began to whisper and tried to cover their mouths in order to hide what they were saying but with a wolf's hearing, none of us had to try very hard to hear them.

"What is he talking about?" A woman asked and another mumbled.

"Did Ronald really orchestrate an attack?"

"Come on, Ronald. Don't you think your people deserve a response?"

Ronald looked to either side of me, watching as his Pack was beginning to question him. He then turned his anger onto me.

"You think my Pack would really change their allegiance just because of some decisions to get revenge? Helen is a part of this Pack and you ruined her! You should have mated with her and made her Luna, not that disgrace of a wolf you have now."

No matter how much I wanted to tear his head off, I released Ronald and allowed him to fall back to the ground. It was the beginning of the confession I wanted and his Pack was already reacting to it. His Beta turned his attention to him.

"What are you talking about, Ronald?" His Beta's brow was furrowed, and confusion crumpled his expression.

"Fine! You want answers? I did help Nicholas. We both wanted the same thing, to hurt you. I wanted you dead more than anything, Helen was traumatized and in so much pain because of you. You went and turned your back on her for no other reason than your raging need to mate." His words spat in all directions.

"Ronald….." his Beta took a step forward.

I remained quiet even though my wolf was slamming at the walls of my mind, demanding to be free. He wanted to devour Ronald.

"You risked the safety of our Pack and risked a war with them because Bernard rejected Helen?"

"Helen is in a coma! She was tossed aside like garbage." Ronald growled.

"Elena is Bernard's mate, don't tell me you wanted him to be with Helen even after he had found his true soul bond?" His Beta looked between us but I simply watched.

I wasn't going to interfere in their pack issues, I was getting what I wanted and it seemed like his Beta was going to do the rest, no war needed.

"Does that matter? Helen was meant to be their Luna, she had trained for it most of her life!"

"Ronald!" His Beta barked out.

"A mate bond is created when we are born, it is not something any of us can turn away from. Bernard wouldn't have been able to mate with Helen after Elena had come into the picture. Even if he had, the anguish of not being with one's fated mate, it is torture. He wouldn't have hurt Helen in the end before many wolves ended up with their mates, regardless of their marital status and you know that."

"At least, she should be Luna."

"You are risking all of this just for your daughter to be Luna? And when she couldn't, you tried to have Elena killed. Elena didn't choose Bernard, it wasn't up to her who her mate was. You went after an innocent woman."

Now the pack was speaking louder, their voices were harsh and angry. I don't think Ronald is going to last long.

"I got what I came here for, I will leave you to the issues at hand."

I folded my arms, I wanted to watch it all play out but I needed to get back to Elena.

"Ronald, if you remain the Alpha of this Pack, not only you but your entire Pack will be exiled from my territory. Don't think of stepping one toe over the line or it will be war." He didn't take my threat lightly, he was almost trembling.

His Beta on the other hand couldn't keep his anger from seeping from his expression and it was all directed to his Alpha.

"But, if by some chance someone challenges you for the title, I think I will allow this Pack to remain on good terms with us. I am not of a good mind to punish them all, so long as the Alpha in charge is agreeable and peaceful."

I made eye contact with his Beta as I spoke, his features tightened and he nodded once I was done talking.

"Let's go." I called my men before pivoting and moving back through the small encampment.

My words were done, Ronald wouldn't go unpunished. From the looks his people were giving him, there would also be no war.

"Glad that it is done with." Jasper groaned.

"I am too tired for war right now." He rounded his arm in a circle to crack his shoulder before cracking his neck.

"Come on, we would have taken them out easily." One of my men chuckled.

It is good that he had so much hope in our powers but I was not of a mind to tell him that we would have lost if it had come down to war. Even with our strongest warriors, there were only four of us and dozens of them. It would not have been pretty.

"At least now we can focus on other things." Jasper laughed and laid his entire weight on my shoulder as he moved up to my side.

"Oh, yeah?"

"Yes, like getting back to our women."

"Women? Are you saying you found someone?"

What an odd way to come out about his relationship. However, I don't remember him getting close to anyone.

"Huh, oh. No one is special."

"Yeah, right." His blushing, it's more than a fling, who could it be?

"Let's just hurry back home before it is dark."

Jasper pushed off my shoulders and jogged on ahead, away from the many questions I had dancing on my tongue. I would find out what he was hiding and who he was seeing. It was only a matter of time, maybe Elena would know. The sharp pinch in my chest knocked the wind from my lungs and I almost stumbled. I wanted to see her so badly, I needed to be with her. She needs me next to her when she wakes up and I would be there.
