Chapter 138: She Will Stay

Chapter 138: She Will Stay

Elena

The wedding was three days away and the whole Pack was buzzing with excitement. Tonight is our engagement dinner and I couldn't have been more excited than I was. Elizabeth had been such a great help through all the preparations and organizing. We have grown closer, I still don't trust her but I was getting there and she wasn't pushing me which I liked.

I walked down the stairs, following the smell of bacon to the kitchen. When I got to the kitchen, I saw my shirtless mate flipping bacon in a pan. I never thought watching a man handle fatty meat would ever be appealing to me but here I was practically drooling.

"You know you could just take a picture." He looked at me with a teasing smile.

"I hear it will last longer."

"Why would I take a picture when all of this is mine?" I leaned against the archway of the kitchen.

"You made breakfast?"

"You got in late last night and I thought you would appreciate breakfast in bed but clearly you couldn't wait." His eyes roamed the length of my body.

"I like my shirt on you much better than I liked it on me." I blushed, this man still sent butterflies to my stomach.

I walked up to him and stood on my toes, I connected my lips to his and he tasted like coffee and vanilla, my favorite. When I pulled away, his eyes were gleaming and my heart was soaring. I never knew I could love someone the way I was in love with Bernard. He made everything brighter and lighter, my life just doesn't make sense without him. He leaned his forehead against mine.

"What is that smile for?"

"I am just happy, I have everything I could ever need right in front of me."

"I love you, Elena Rosalie Joseph." I pulled back to look at his face properly.

"I like the sound of that, Elena Joseph had a nice ring to it, didn't you think so?"

"It is done," he leaned down and connected our lips in a heated kiss. Kissing him would never get bland or boring.

We heard a throat clear and our kiss broke apart. We turned to the entrance of the kitchen and found Jasper shifting uncomfortably from leg to leg. His eyes looked everywhere that wasn't Bernard or me.

"Yes, Jasper, is there a reason you are coming to bother me so early in the morning?" He pulled me by the side, seemingly to hide me from view. He bowed his head.

"Forgive me Alpha but we have trouble at the western border."

"What trouble?"

"It is Alpha Ronald, he had arrived with Helen."

Seriously? Could this girl not get the hint that Bernard is not interested in her? I understand that how things had ended was not the most ideal but it was for the best.

"I don't want that traitor to cross into my lands. He is forbidden here after his involvement with Richard."

"He refused to leave, Alpha. He is insisting that he has to see you, he said if you refuse him then he will cross over by force." Bernard's chest vibrated, a low growl escaped his lips.

"We will come," I interjected.

"We will hear what he has to say and then he will leave." Bernard's eyes fell on me but I didn't care to look at him.

"He is probably here to apologize." Hopefully.

"No, Luna. If anything, Ronald looks ready to fight."

"If he wants to fight then he will get it." He was heated and I knew it was hard to talk him down in this state.

"Jasper, wait outside, Elena and I will be out in ten minutes." He left and I looked up to Bernard.

"You can't fight him, Bernard. No more war."

"He aided in trying to take over this Pack and to kill me. Ronald will face judgment for his crime."

"And what exactly will you do? Imprison him? Kill him?" I cupped his face.

"You know that none of those options would end well. He is an Alpha and so are you, if anything, you two will cut ties as allies and move forward." He scoffed.

"Bernard, please. Promise me that you will not fight with him."

He looked away trying to avoid my gaze, I squished his face a little in my hands causing him to look at me. I could see the ghost of a smile playing on his lips.

"Bernard, I am serious. Please, I am tired of bloodshed and war, this is our wedding week. Can we not soil it with violence? I just want to enjoy and celebrate."

"Fine," he sighed.

"But if he pushes me, I will kick him just for the hell of it."

"I would expect nothing less from you, my love." I pecked his lips and headed upstairs to change.

My perfect morning had been interrupted by the Elison family but hopefully, this would be the last time we would be hearing from them. It is the time to close all these confusing chapters of our lives.

We made our way to the bother holding each other's hand. I held onto him for my dear life, Helen was the last person I wanted to see today, especially during my wedding week. As we approached closer, I could see Ronald standing in front of his car with two men beside him. His eyes zeroed in our direction and I could practically taste the bitterness rolling off him in waves. This is going to be interesting, I looked around but Helen was nowhere in sight.

"Finally, you grace us with your presence, Bernard. I am not a man who likes to be kept waiting." Bernard and I came to a halt in front of him.

"You are a man who is not welcome onto my land, so why don't you do us a favor and crawl back to that wasteland you called a Pack."

I squeezed his hand in warning, that these were meant to be civil talk. Once they started throwing insults at each other, it would lead to something else. Ronald's eyes snapped to mine.

"I see you have brought your whore with you." Bernard let out a low growl.

He took a menacing step forward but I placed my hand on his shoulder and stopped him.

'He is baiting you, my love.' I mind linked him.

'But he is dishonoring you and he will pay.'

'No, let me handle this.' I turned to Ronald.

"What do you want, as you can see, Bernard doesn't want you here. As far as I can remember, you are the one who has committed a crime against us. You conspired with Richard to kill Bernard, if anything, he should have your head for that." He let out a horrendous snort.

"I am not the only one who has committed a crime here, Elena."

"What are you talking about, you useless fart?" Bernard was growing angrier with each passing second. I tried to share my calm with him but his anger was rolling off him in waves.

"Oh, so you forget how you disrespect my daughter?"

"Look, Ronald, it was an unfortunate thing that Bernard was not able to mate with Helen because I am his true mate. That alone was enough to nullify whatever agreement was there before."

"Of course, a primitive girl like you would view alliance agreements as things that can just be discarded to the side." He turned his nose up at me like I was the scum beneath his feet.

"You disgrace my daughter and you made a fool of me, I am a noble wolf."

"Ronald, why are you boring me?" Bernard uttered.

"You heard my mate, I am with her and whatever agreement we had was nullified the moment we found out we were mates. If you are looking for an apology, you will not get one here, so I suggest you leave."

"I will leave." Ronald took a step forward which caused the patrol wolves to step forward as well.

"I will leave but my daughter will be staying." Bernard let out a boisterous laugh.

"Are you smoking or something, Ronald? Or was it old age that is getting to your brain? Why would I allow your unmated daughter to stay in my land?"

"Because it is your responsibility to take care of her, Bernard. You are the one that has shamed her and now you must right your wrong."

"I rejected your daughter, Ronald. I didn't deflower her." An evil grin made its way onto Ronald's face.

"But you did, Bernard, and you not only deflowered her but you planted your seed in her as well." My heart dropped.

"What?"

Ronald lifted his hand and signaled to the car. The door opened and came out a chicly dressed Helen who was cradling her still flat looking stomach. She walked up to her father with a smug grin on her face. She came to a halt and her eyes moved from Bernard and then to me.

"Good to see you again, Elene." She to me and then turned to Bernard.

"Congratulations, you are going to be a father, Bernard."

"What?" My voice was barely above a whisper.

The whole surrounding was spinning, my vision was fading in and out of focus. My knees felt like jelly and they gave out from under me, I crashed into Bernard's side.

"Elena?" His voice sounded so distant.

Helen is carrying my mate's child? This had to be some kind of joke that was being played on me. I looked up at the sky, and the trees spun. The last thing I remembered was the feeling of failing and then darkness.
