Chapter 149: The D-Day

Chapter 149: The D-Day

Elena

I stared through the window looking at the mountainous view of river road. It rained last night and now the mountains looked greener than before. New beginnings. I spent the last two hours getting pruned and brushed to perfection. I hadn't looked at myself in the mirror, I wanted to wait till I had my dress on.

I pressed Bernard's letter against my chest, I had read it about ten times already. His words still sounded sweet in my head, I am a woman in love and I never wanted that to change.

"It is your big day," Elizabeth walked up and stood beside me, my relationship with her had been improving by the day.

"Yes, it is." I breathed.

"After everything that had happened, we have finally made it. We are finally getting married." I felt her eyes on me, I knew what she was going to say.

"Elena, I…." I turned to her and placed my hands on her shoulder.

"Don't, Elizabeth. I have already forgiven you for what had happened, it is in the past so let it remain there. This is the present and we look to the future, okay? No more apologies." She nodded.

"You are a far better woman than I am."

"No, I am not, my mother was. She taught me to forgive and let go because anger and resentment only brew bitterness and I don't want that for myself or this Pack."

"Speaking of your mother, I have a gift for you." She signaled for one of the servants to grab the small gift bag that had been sitting on my vanity all morning. She took the bag in her hands and gave it to me.

"Elizabeth, you have already given me enough."

"In my family, there are no such things as enough. Besides, I think this gift you will love more than anything else I have gotten you or at least, I hope you will." She urged me to open the bag which I did.

Inside the bag was a small velvet box, I looked at her again. Her gifts were always extravagant and expensive, it was a constant reminder of how my lifestyle would soon change once I married Bernard. It would be something I would need to get accustomed to.

I opened the box and gasped at what I saw. How did she get it? My eyes snapped to her, my vision was blurring as the tears filled my eyes.

"How?" I choked out.

"It is not your mother's necklace but it is a close enough replica. I had the jeweler make it for your wedding day."

She said it was a replica but it looks so much like my mother's necklace. Elizabeth and I had been doing wedding prep when she asked me what I wanted for my wedding. I had told her that I wanted a piece of my mother and father on my wedding day. I knew it was impossible to have that, seeing as all of their belongings had been burned in the fire or some grave Richard had dug for them. So I never expected anything, I had learned now never to underestimate Elizabeth, she always had a way of making things happen.

"I also have both your parent's initials engraved inside, seeing as you said you wanted both of them to be here today. I hope that is enough for you." The tears started to fall from my eyes on their own accord.

"If you don't like it, we can always return it and I can get you something else that won't upset you as much." I shook my head and jumped at her and enveloped her in a huge hug.

"Thank you, Elizabeth." I squeezed her a little tighter.

"This is perfect."

She returned my hug with just as much enthusiasm, we pulled apart after some time and our faces were tear-stained.

"I am surprised your makeup is not ruining, not even your mascara. They did a great job."

I dabbled at my face and I felt the tears but when I moved my hand away from my face to examine it, there wasn't anything. I looked down at the pendant in the box, it was an oval shaped pendant that looked exactly like the one my mother wore. It had these little intricate detailing of veins with gladiolus sprouting from the veins. I handed the box to her and turned around, I lifted my styled hair carefully.

"Will you do the honors?"

"Of course." She came up behind me and placed the necklace on my neck. The cool metal platinum touched my skin and then placed her hand on my shoulder.

"Now, let's get you married." I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I looked like a princess and I felt like one now.

My wedding dress was simple but it complimented my body so well, it had a sweetheart neckline that gave my chest just enough lift without it being tacky. The bodice was tight and snatched at the waist, there was delicate detailing on the bodice that gave the dress a fairytale feeling.

"We are ready." Alisha looked at my reflection in the mirror with a beautiful smile on her face, she was wearing a gorgeous navy blue ball gown dress that both of us had picked out. Her hair was styled similarly to mine but hers was pinned up.

"Finally, I am getting married."

We walked out of the room together and made our way downstairs. Everyone in the Pack is already in the hall except, Joseph, Alisha, and me. When I reached the button of the stairs, Joseph was already waiting for us. He dressed only in a form-fitting tuxedo, his salt and pepper hair was gelled back and his face was bright from the smile on his lips.

"You look beautiful, Elena. My son is one lucky man."

I blushed and took his offered arm, we made our way out of the house and into the waiting cars. My heart was pounding in my chest, I am sure everyone in the car could hear it. Time was moving so quickly and so slowly, I wanted to savor every moment of this day, I would never get another one like it. We came to a stop at the front of the hall. Even from sitting inside the car, I could hear the chatter of the Pack members.

Liam was waiting for us outside dressed in a black tuxedo like Joseph. He walked to the car and opened the door for me and helped me out. I carried my dress making sure that it didn't touch the ground or get dirty. Alisha stepped out and carried my veil and we walked towards the door. As we opened the door, the noises inside quietened and the classical music played. Alisha handed me the bouquet of white and blue roses.

"The next time we speak, you will be Mrs. Elena Bernard Joseph." Alisha squealed.

"I am so unbelievably happy for you, Elena. You deserve this and more."

"Thank you, Ali."

Alisha walked up to Liam, looped her arm through his, and took her place. Joseph stood beside me, my arm looped through his. I held my bouquet in both hands, my palms gathering moisture as the nerves continued to rise. Liam and Alisha walked in and closed the door again. I closed my eyes for a moment focusing on my breathing. Bernard and I had purposely blocked each other from our mind link because we wanted the first time we communicated today to be at the altar. I was dying to see him again and I am so ready to marry him.

I opened my eyes and looked at the sky. I would have given anything to have my parents at my wedding. To have my father walking me down the aisle to my husband-to-be, to have my mother fussing over me before getting to the hall. I knew they would have loved Bernard simply because he loved me wholly and fully. He is good and he is going to be a good husband and an amazing father. There were no mistakes when it came to fate and that was exactly what Bernard and I were.

The door opened and I focused my gaze forward, everyone's heads turned to me. I looked around at every single pair of eyes in that hall until my eyes finally landed on the eyes that set my heart on fire. Everyone stood from their seats and waited for me. Bernard's forest green eyes held so much love and joy that I couldn't help the smile that found its way to my lips.

Everyone around us faded into the background and all there was Bernard, he was all I could feel, he was all I could see. Joseph took the first step and I followed his movements. He took control of the pace of the walk because if I had it my way, I would have been sprinting down the aisle. After much time had passed, in my opinion, we finally made it to the end of the aisle.

"Who gives this woman to be wedded to our Alpha, Bernard George Joseph?" Priest's voice boomed through the hall.

"I do," Joseph answered with his chest out like a proud father. The Priest nodded in acknowledgment.

"Give her hand away and place it into the Alpha's hand."

I removed my arm from Joseph's and placed my hand in his. He then extended my hand to Bernard who had his hand stretched out. Joseph placed my hand in his son's.

As soon as my skin made contact with Bernard's, I felt that familiar warmth spread through my body. The one word that echoed throughout my head as I stepped up to the altar and stood in front of the Priest. Hand in hand with Bernard, he is my home.

Being with Bernard felt like home and it was a feeling I never wanted to get rid of.
